For the to-the-point version, read the writing in red. I'd appreciate it if you read the whole thing though.

Here is the situation. The game is right in front of me. Nicely packaged, with the Playstation 3 logo running up and down the side. That feeling of excitement when you buy a new game is filled within me. But, I like many of you spend more than I ought to on expensive video games.

What's holding me back from unpackaging it? Well, I understand that the PS3 version especially, has numerous bugs and freezes. Also, I understand that the story is short and that side quests are few. I want a good long game that will hold me over for a couple months. I can easily borrow Oblivion from a friend so I really have FO3 as my option. I like what I have read, but the bugs and the replayability factors concern me. My question is, to all you who own it, how many hours have you clocked in so far? Have you beaten the game? Have you done all the side missions? Are you bored with the game yet?

Of course, how much time you spend with the game reflects your own personal tastes, but my major issue are the bugs. Is this game really that broken?

Sorry for all the questions, but if the game has as many problems as I fear it may have, I don't want to open it just yet. I may just return it for something else, but at the same time, I've been dying to play it.

Thank you for your time.

In short:

1) How many hours have you put into the game and have you finished the story/side missions?

2) Are you still interested in the game?

3) What kind of bugs have you experienced? What System do you have it on?

Well I played the 360 version, and the bugs were few (For me anyway. Everyone expirences diffrent issues. It's all a bit random really.), but I have heard the PS3 version is diffrent.

However I did clock just under 60 hours, completeing the main story and all major side quests, and really enjoyed the expirence. (Though if you're like me it will start to feel a bit monotonous after 50 or so hours.). There are also various choices in the game so it's worth replaying at a diffrent alignment. Length isn't really an issue.

Thank you-- I understand that quantity doesn't equal quality, but again, I want a nice long game. 50 hours seems just about enough.

I am 60 hours in.

About half way through with the main mission.  I've mainly been focusing on exploring and doing side quests whenever I encounter them.

I've not encountered any bugs that I can remember.

Playing on the 360.

Taking a break from the game at the moment. I hope to return to it as soon as I'm done with last remnant.

Look to above posters for time spent.

I had the ps3 version.

Framerate was solid for me

My game had freezes but most of them I could wait out (meaning the game did not crash) and it was not game breaking.

I had a single occurance of my autosave breaking down which sucked since I had not manually saved for about 4 hours. This only happened once and would have been no problem had I not been way to overconfident (as in forgetting to save for 4 hours straight. Thats dumb in any game).

There were bugs but none gamebreaking (since the dead autosave only happened once in two entire playthroughs, you may never experience it)

Decent game but I traded it in after seing what I needed to see (medium length evil plauthrough, comprehensive good playthrough).

Edit: Bethesda is supposedly working on patches so it may get better.

The bugs are by no means bad enough to disuade you from playing it on a ps3. And contrary to fanboi belief it does not look like crap (any more than the aging oblivion engine makes it do anyway).

I agree with this, but I played the PS3 version, and encountered several bugs and glitches. Most don't impair the game all that much, (texture pop-in, screen tearing, or character's mouths not  moving when they speak, for example) but a couple can be rather irritating, like occasionally freezing for a good minute or two when you try to take a shot in V.A.T.S., or occasionally freezing and hitching up when wandering through the wasteland. So long as you keep auto-save on, and save with multiple slots, you shouldn't really have too much trouble... I wouldn't call it broken, i would just recommend it on a system other than the PS3...If that's the only system you could get it for, open it, play it, and enjoy it, because it's worth playing in spite of any technical issue you may have.

Alpha-Male22

1) I put in about 30 hours on my first play-through.

2) Yes it's one of my favorite games this gen and I don't normally care for WRPGs. I plan on going through it atleast one more time, maybe twice.

3) I've had it freeze up on me twice, requiring me to get up and turn the system off, and then back on again. Also the menu kind of lagged out on me late in the game a few times. I have it on the 360.

That reminds me. I did have 1 crash and one of the quest's was really badly messed up. It conflicted with another quest, that could end up breaking one or the other. ("Tenpenny Tower" and "You Gotta shoot em in the Head") Just be careful with these. You can avoid the problem by completeing the second one first, but one of the options becomes unvailable for the first quest. If you wanted to check you could do an internet search. There's a Fallout Wiki.

I have the PC version, I have played 20+ hours only because I've had to restart the game 3 times due to glitches causing my saves to be corrupted. Its an ok game, but definitely not a 9.0 game...maybe a solid 8.0. And yes, the game is glitchy as hell, it makes STALKER look like Warcraft 3 stability-wise. I consider it a good session if I got 20min without the game crashing :?

I didn't experience any real glitches other than the two freeze ups. Maybe you need to upgrade your pc? Also you shouldn't rate the game until you beat it, the end is pretty awesome imo.

I just upgraded my PC. AMD X2 6000+, 8800GTX, 4Gigs of RAM, WinXP. Trust me, its not my computer...its the damn broken game :x And I would luv to see the end, but having to restart the game 6 times just to complete a mission is no fun. And this is not an isolated problem. Just check on the GS fallout board or the official Bethesda board, or any fallout 3 board and u will see that alot of people are having problems with this game. This game is STALKER x10 :?

Alot of PC multiplatform games are broken. It isn't anywhere near as bad on the console versions.

I wonder if it's a PC version problem because I have not heard anything about the 360 version having serious problems? Or it could be that I was just lucky but no major problems with mine.

It is isolated to the PC version. The X360 and PS3 versions have some minor glitches, but nothing that makes them unplayable or even really dents the experience. The PC version on the other hand is a mixed bag. Some people say they play it with no problems, and some say its a broken mess. Now this is expected due to the various computer specifications, but the sheer number of people reporting problems is alarming. Im pretty sure its above the average compatability complaints for a game. :( And anything can mess up the game. Some people FDShow messes up their game, others it wont run without it. Some people had to delete or add video codecs, or change certain files...its just so random and after a while, you just get fed up with the whole process.

1) I put about 30 hours into it with about 80% of the side-quests done by the time I beat it. 2) Still interested in the game, will do another run for sure, started another but then I played other games 3) Played on PC, never any bugs, a couple crashes, but it saves so often it doesn't matter.

1) I have put 42 hours in the game, and finished the story and all side missions except "Head of State" (currently in progress, just now decided to go talk to the slaves) and "Strictly Business" (Karma too good. Killed 'em before I got the quest).

2) Absolutely interested. I'm still playing at least a couple hours daily (I do have a job that consumes a lot of my time, and was on a business trip for the week it was released).

3) X360. I haven't had a single gamebreaking bug or anything more than slightly annoying. Bugs I've found:

1.- Dead Nukalurks sometimes degenerate into random polygon models if I leave the area and return. Distracting, but nothing important. I can still check their corpses for loot and stuff like that. Since these monsters are quite rare, it's hardly an issue.

2.- I had a freeze right after loading an area (blessed autosave, I just restarted the console and went right to where it froze)

3.- Random lockup twice in VATS, when doing a 180 change in aim direction.

4.- Dogmeat disappeared when I got Fawkes as a party member. A couple days later, I got a message that Dogmeat was waiting for me at Vault 101.

5.- The head of the regulators disappeared for a couple of days after I finished the Arlington Cemetery sidequest, so I had to leave it hanging for several ingame days until I could finish it.

I wouldn't say that Fallout 3 is "short". The main quest can be finished relatively quickly, but the world is huge, and interesting. I've found over a hundred points of interest in the map, and most of them are truly interesting, with cool stuff to do and find out. So far, I'm loving the experience, and I can easily see it going for at least another 10 hours before I feel the need to start a different character. I'm thinking I'd need at least two more playthoughs before I see everything there is about the game. Personally, it's my pick for Game of the Year.

Playing it on PC, I have 55 hours in it and I haven't suffered any crashes or serious bugs. The only thing that happens kinda often is that when I minimize the game too much it might not want to come up again then I have to re launch it.

That's the Oblivion engine at work. This engine has never been good with minimizing and maximizing.

i have the pc version about 31 hours in. i am starting to get bored of it to be honest. was cool at first, but now... damn just want it to end already. its not like fallout 1 and 2, where they kept me entertained from start to finish everytime i played through them, and i played through each of them about a good 6 times or more! i hope im almost done with fallout 3. i will not be replaying it at all. just wanna be done with the game and find out how it ends. i will not by any DLC if there is a charge...but then again i have the pc version so im sure it'll most likely be free haha.  this game just become shallow after awhile.  at first its all cool "oh wow look at the world all messed up in 3d"... then it becomes "im sick of seeing the same thing, over and over and over and over"

oh and i forgot to add.  the game has crashed on me twice only.  my character also got stuck twice, to the point where i couldnt get out no matter what i did, so i had to relaunch the game.

Fallout 3 is great, but I will also be ending my experience & selling it to a friend or online. Yes, it's great but it's the buggiest game i've played in my life. Beat the main story & I believe I clocked in 58 hrs(which isn't much with how vastly detailed the game world is)The bugs aren't game breaking some some glitches made me LMAO but not to spoil anything for you i'd say open the game, play it. There are times you'll have to save then restart the game because of a glitch so be warned. I told you so.

I only experianced quest comflicting bugs but nothing else. If you follow the checkpoints you can complete the main story in about 6 hours. Stick on 10 agility and Abuse the VATS mode and you can kill anything in the game with a simple well stocked hunting rifle. No challange at all.

Venture outside the main story and you got a lot of stuff to play with. Finding unqiue weapons and armor is good fun (The Lincoin Rifle is awesome) some great places to explore. I actually played the game without wearing a helmet (because they all looked ugly and I liked my characters punky hair) and I wore some funky looking Wasteland Legend outfit that made me look like a proper fallout hero. I found that with the lincoin rifle, 10 agility and skill in small arms the game was insultingly easy, didn't need armor when everythings dead in 1 or 2 hits. And those big towering brutes. LOL, don't make me laugh, you just need a little rock to walk around and they can't get to you.

Only maybe 6 hours in and already find it hard to get back into it, it was the whole linear subway section that left me bored to tears in such an early stage. Only bug I've seen in the PC version was a supermutant falling through floor after I naded him, and then re-appearing from a wall to say "beek-a-boo!". I will prolly try to get back into it this weekend, hopefully it picks up pace.

I guess you are luckier than I am. The first time it crashed and corrupted my save file was after the Arefu quest where you have to find that kid...Something West, with the Vampires. I started a new game (had to go through the childhood sequence again :x) and then It crashed on me again as I was doing the mirelurk quest Moira gives you where you have to put the camera or monitor thing in the mirelurk nest. So I had to restart and go through the childhood sequence again! 3rd time it crashed was after beating the Behemoth or what ever the giant super-mutant is called. Just as I was entering GNR radio station my game froze and data was corrupted  So now I've started over, but I only play like 2 hours a week...I cbf anymore, that game has seriously burnt me out. Right now im in the sewers in doing that ant infestation quest chain you get from the kid outside the super-mart. Man, that town with the ant infestation causes my game to crash every 2 minutes...its horrendous! And I sorta hate how you spend a large portion of the game in sewers that look EXACTLY THE SAME! :x

yes, I realize they are sewers and all sewers are pretty much identical, but Bethesda should have realized they are making a game! Fun > realism when it comes to games. Even if they wanted to be realistic, how about not making every single freaking quest have you go into sum sewer!? :x And on that quest where you have to put the harmonic disturbance device next to the ant queen, I swear, that cave is ripped straight out of Oblivion :?

1. I put about..... I would say 130 hours or so into it. (Disclaimer - I tend to go OCD with RPGs, because I really leave virtually no stone unturned in them.... I explore and usually find just about everything for what its worth) 2. Yeah, I guess so, however I am glad I am done with it. Honestly, the same ole crushed up concrete look started wearing on me juuuust a little bit. Not to the point where it was an issue by no means, but I am glad I am finished. 3. This may not help you much, because I have it on the 360. However, I did experience a few bugs, but nothing game affecting. One was highly amusing, actually. A few times, when I would come across creatures out in the wastelands, they would just shoot up into the sky. I mean straight up, and out of sight. No real troubles, though.

1) How many hours have you put into the game and have you finished the story/side missions?

I am not quite sure actually I know I haven't gotten far into it however thats down to uni work.

2) Are you still interested in the game?

Oh yeah, I am looking forward to getting some time off over Xmas so i can get back into it

3) What kind of bugs have you experienced? What System do you have it on?

I've got it for the PS3 and personally I haven't experienced anything major there has been loads of reports of delays when friends logging in, however I have played it for a bit and had friends sign in and no delay or anything like that.

1. I've put about 60 hours into the game so far.

2. Yes, I still love the game.

3. Bug-wise, i've encountered a lot of the same things as Oblivion. really, nothing deal-breaking.

hope that helps! it really is an awesome game for either platform.

1) put around 60 hours between 2 playthroughs

2) I'm still interested in it, just not even close to as much as the first playthrough...You can play the game in a different way but you still know where the story is going and where all the sidequests/items are etc. and the experience of accidently stumbling across Dogmeat and other things like that (unless you were going by a guide) are kinda gone.

3) I have the game on 360, say the worst bug was getting stuck(getting in one of the odd places you can't get out of) but for a Bestheda game I kinda expected that.  Other things were an occassional freeze for 10-15 seconds after dying and once in a blue moon you'd get a small patch of ground texture that wouldn't "pop-in" even if you were standing on it.

Playing it on a PC, logged in 100 hours, and completed it once so far.

I do however have a serious bug in the game, which causes not only my pc to crash, but I need to go back to a safepoint on my pc, because after the crash nothing works at all.

I like the game, but that bug is horrible, the ps3 version should not have that bug tho.

In short:

2) Are you still interested in the game?

3) What kind of bugs have you experienced? What System do you have it on?

I suggest you read my latest blog, mate.:) Anyway, i'm answering your questions here: 1) Over 85 hours. I have finished the main quests and all the side quests with the exception of two. 2) Yes, i'll probably play it again sometime has an evil character. There's lots of possibilities to explore in this game. 3) I have it for PS3 and the only bug i experienced was the notifications bug. The game pauses for a few seconds when you recieve a PSN notification. This can easily be fixed by turning notifications off in system settings. Aside from that, i only experienced a few slowdowns. Unpack the game and have a blast with it. You won't regret it.:)
