Youd rather have it droped like a brick like was done to xbox or a slow painful death like the gamecube?
With some pretty lucrative titles (soul nomad, persona 3)still being released so late i have a hard time telling whats going on.
I think sony just wants to have some extra time to brush up on the PS3's image
before making the final transition but thats just an uneducated guess.

Personally i prever the fast drop less whining and more sales.

Drop it. I don't like keeping up with new releases 2 years after the successor came out.

I hated how my Xbox was dropped...it was horrible..and it was only two years ago.

Keep it going for the fans.

Just do it like they did with the PS1, and keep the support up just like there doing with the PS3 now with the former PS consoles.

Sony has essentially already moved on. Allthey aredoing now is making the systems and providing very casual games like Singstar and Buzz games. The ps2 is going to have some legs left because this years lineup is solid for your average gamer and it will continue to have casual appeal in the next couple of years.

The PS2 should slowly back away from the massive user base it created until it is standing at the exit. Before walking away completely it should look back one last time, smile and say, "My work here is done."

Sony will keep making money on it has long has Wii is out....They should let the PS2 last even over the 10 years if the Wii is still making new games

Soon.

That's how.

Why? Because every frickin multiplat that could be potentially a pretty good game is held back by the PS2 development. You gotta skimp on the PS3 and 360 development, and the game is much lamer than it should be being tied into last gen standards.

Seriously Sony, let go of this 10 year cycle crap, you're just floundering the PS3 now by still living off the PS2.

I agree that it should go pretty soon but it has given me some good titles even after the PS3. Most recently, the new .hack//G.U. series for me. Some people may not have liked it but I found it enjoyable. I did not like how the Xbox was abruptly dropped.

Drag it's fat dying brother the PS3 with it. J/k.. It should go out with a bang like the cube did with Zelda TP. It should get one last great AAA game before going.

I think the PS2's going to stay here for quite awhile; at least another year or two. Whether this constitutes being a "slow and painful" death or being a "middle option" is really up to you.

Its already had that one last great AAA game - GOW2, there wont be anymore, atleast not any 1st part ones. I think it will slowly die from now on, but keep selling as long as its viable to jointly develop games for both Wii, psp and ps2. It will also occasionally get the odd port from the psp.
