Seriously, Sony have got to come up with a new name for their next console. They can't really just call it the Playstation 4, they already used it 3 times. Who agrees?

Xbox did that because it was the second system from microsoft, and in order for the casuals not to get confused about "Hmmm a PS3 or an Xbox2, I won't buy something from last gen..." they named it 360.

perhaps. but they have only used it twice and they arent just shoving the next number afterwards (see my name post) if they named is xbox, xbox2, xbox 3, 4 etc they would need to change

The thing is, Nintendo was the brand back then not Entertainment System, 64, of Gamecube. In Sony's case, the Playstation brand eclipses the name Sony in the gaming division. So it will be very difficult to come up with a console name of Sony-something while omitting playstation altogether. The next gen Sony would probably have to have PS or playstation rather than Sony -something. The only good name i can think of is PS4, as Playstation-something is quite a long name (consider how Wii has become a buzzword for Nintendo now).

You know, I just realized the irony of me talking about MS fanboy logic, then me going on to talk about MS buying these game stores. Yes, it is true, I am a Sony fanboy. But I'm not of the blind calibur. I have enough consciousness to see the forest for the trees. The 360 isn't a bad system, but I find the 360 appears to have FAR more blind fanboys, and they drive me nuts with their false information, and hair brained gloom-and-doom. *Shrug* Anyway. about the Nintendo, I think this time around, they made a smart, and economic decision. Since their last console was all but a flop (the Gamecube didn't do too well in the long term if I remember correctly) They had to make a smart, and profitiable decision. So in a rather risky move IMO, they threw their name brand out there one more time, hoping to catch a winner. And they did. You must admit, They are pulling a sheet over the sheep's eyes, marketing a console with near last-gen graphics, but an innovative controller set-up, and "sort of" backwards compatibility". It definately worked for them. They are DEFINITELY pulling some huge profit from the Wii's sales, and I predict in the future, Nintendo will use those earnings, and the earnings from the smash-hit DS, to create a "real" next-gen system to rival that of the Playstation and Xbox brand. Interesting times.

Play Station 4 sounds... odd. I think they should still have Play Station, but give it a new "Title" like Playstation Revolution (first thing that came to mind, it is an example, I am NOT suggesting they use that)
