Cows weren't as bad ONLY because there was so little room to argue over the domination of the PS2. Anytime a Lemming would bring up the Xbox's technical superiority and multiplat comparisons, they would get shouted down by "but teh games!" (sound familiar?). When cows became truly insufferable was duringthe year building to the PS3 launch, making claims and buying into Sony's claims that of course never came to fruition.

Cows seemed more adult during the PS2 says but u had your HC cows and Casual Cows

Sheep where always getting dogged during the GC days becasue they would go on yearly yes YEARLY droughtslike 6 month droughts with nothing coming out LOL

no sales threads other than from lemmings and sheep fighting for #2.. noone, especially the cows, thought the xbox would even last a generation as well as xbox live being a failure.

the cows were brutal... hence the residual hostility usually shown....

It was exactly the same as now. Lemmings had a rabid hatred for Sony and bashed everything and anything Sony or the PS2 did whether good or bad. Cows were arrogant and acted like they were superior because their console was #1 and wrote off anything negative about the PS2 with damage control. The sheep defended everything Nintendo did even as the GC was clearly failing because they really only care about Nintendo games anyway.

Oh, and like now, the lemmings and sheep also attacked each other but then called each other "cows"...then they would wonder why the cows attacked everyone all the time. When in reality, I found sheep and lemmings more likely to attack each other (due to the close competition in the consoles) and because they assumed that only a "cow" would attack them, real cows got smeared in the crossfire.
