Its crazy that its still over $100 , no console has ever stayed in production and priced over $100 for 7 years

not well, cause everyone who wanted a ps2 has one. no one was sitting around waiting for a price drop under 100 dollars for 7 years.im_differentLook above you.

You'd be surprised.
Last I checked, it's still selling at a faster rate than the 360 and the PS3.
Like someone said before it would sell very well in a short time span and then trail off rather quickly. Personally, I wish Sony would've held true to their statements about the PS2 being a 10 year system and tried to keep it alive for another 2-3 years, and when I say alive I'm talking about being aggressive with price drops and big time games coming out for it on a regular schedule. I mean the current market leader is the Wii and most of it's games don't look any better then the top PS2 games.
It would've been so awesome if Sony held off on the PS3 and instead started a mega rebirth of the PS2 to coincide with the launches of their next generation competitors (360 and Wii). They could've dropped the price to $99 dollars on the same day the 360 launched and another price drop to $79 dollars on the day the Wii launched. They could've continued releasing alternate colors and special editions. They could've reduced all their licensing fees and dev kit costs to get more 3rd party support. Perhaps they could've started an indie game development movement on their console similar to what the 360 is doing with XNA but better. Heck, they could've used all the money they made on the PS2 and instead of losing all that money on unnecessary expenses with the PS3 they could've used it to create some truly blockbuster games and secure some prominent exclusives.
I mean, even without all this the PS2 is giving the PS3 and Xbox 360 a good fight, imagine what it could've done with big time support behind it.
