Hey guy's 360 Elite owner here, i'm wondering what else this new PS3 coming out this fall will have aside from a bigger hard drive, if it has the same hardware and backwards compatibility and sd slots as it's old 60-gig model i think my precious Elite won't be at the top of the heap anymore.

I mean i know that us 360 owners are getting a completely new graphical interface to replace the blade system this fall with a software update but will that be enough to compete with PS3's Home software update combined with their new 160-gig system.

I just don't know, Sony can slip in to the lead with all this combined with certain exclusives and our looming R.R.O.D problem, it's times like this where i worry about having made the right choice my self or even sliding down to last place in the console wars.

Why would a game console need to compete with an overpriced blu-ray player?

This is true, like myself in which I own a 60gig version PS3 replaced with a $500gig Harddrive. It was well worth it.

OK, so its ok for a PS3 owner to upgrade with a hard drive, but anyone who buys the Arcade for $199 cant upgrade without anyone (usually PS3 owners) saying "whats the point" or "the arcade is useless"??? So is the 20, 40, 60, or 80gb PS3 useless since you need to upgrade because of all the installs??? I mean, isnt it the same concept as Arcade owners running out of space on the memory card because of arcade games, or game saves??? Just a thought..........

Main difference in my eyes is the fact that you have to buy Microsofts HDD from them, which is way overpriced. PS3's use regular 2.5" SATA drives, which means you can get 320Gig's for about $100. How much is the 120 gig hard drive from Microsoft?

Edit* Just looked it up, it's about $150 for the 120gig HDD from Microsoft.

Doesnt matter how much the upgrade costs, its still an upgrade, which means either you werent happy with the one you got, you ran outta space. Same thing applies to the arcade. Like in the many threads about installs, and people say they feel sorry for the 40gb owners, and the response is always "they can just upgrade" well so can the Arcade owners.

160Gb PS3? The casuals must be complaining about those mandatory installs. Instead of spending ad monies on showcasing a new PS3, how about they spend that money educating people on how to swap their hard drives

or you actually just want ot enhance the experience by upgradeing the hdd to make more space for all the multiple things you can put on your ps3 like movies, music, photos, games for both the ps3 and psp. or you could just want to feel like a bad a$$ and have a sh!+ load of memory.it could be one or the other. you decide.

The 160 GB PS3 is the one that needs to compete. It's another new sku and is the highest priced for any console.

No, a 160gb ps3 will be the most expensive consoel on the market. It will be the same PS3 just a bigger hard drive. 360 elite is still top.

The 160 GB PS3 is no different (aside from the HDD size, obviously) than the 80 GB PS3 available right now. It's not going to have BC, card readers or additional USB ports.

So considering the Elite's lower price, I don't think it'll have a problem competing.

it actually does matter about the cost.In the end price+deal is all we are looking at when buying a new console.

Seems to me you buy a PS3 and then buy an extra 500GB HDD maybe you should re-think your whole situation and just buy a gaming rig.. Just a thought.

So why buy a 160 gig unless it has backwards compat? I thought Sony said they were done with that.
