It's likely that Microsoft will drop the Arcade SKU price to $199 just before GTA IV. How would Sony be able to counter this not so unlikely scenario without dropping all hope of profitability this generation?Pripyat
It's been surviving at the $600 price point with no established franchises. I don't see why the $200 360 would be an issue.

If people wanted to buy a 360 , what are they waiting for? Good games, Good Online, Good Price and more things
The PS3 will have a larger increase of sales when it becomes 199 in like 2-3 years

Why would Sony drop out after a year in the new generation? Oh yeah, they wouldn't.
Sony only has angle and that is to push their Blu-Ray formatCute_Gamer
You should be banned for having such an ignorant signature.

Below $200 is considered the mass market "sweet spot" in the gaming console business. Casuals will be flocking video game stores to pick up a system to play GTA, so getting a big chunk of the GTA sales is really important to hardware sales.

The Final Fantasy and Gran Turismo crowds will balance everything out.

Sony could just as easily create a stripped down POS SKU with shoddy hardware and a low sticker price to equal the 360 arcade SKU, but unfortunately for them they have slightly better morals.

lmao, Sony: "here's a $100 20gig PS3 with no blu-ray player or BC, and 33% of all these models have a white screen of death problem along with the usual overheating, enjoy and good luck!"
the ps3 doesn't have to "survive" anything... there will always be people that want it. besides how low can u expect sony to go? the system costs close to 1000$ to manufacture at top of the line! they are just waiting to actually get profit of it because pretty much every respected anylist of the gaming industry as a whole expects that games will just not be able to continue to improve on the 360 so they will be forced to move to the ps3 (or the next xbox product... whatever that will be.) they are already losing billions of dollars a year so dont demand another price drop.penguino726
Ummm WOW where did you pull that from???? Sure wasn't your brain. You're going to need to back that up buddy. The last time I checked they haven't even come close to maxing out the 360.

Please, interview a consumer and if they said, "I dropped $600 on it because it said Playstation, and without doing any prior research"
Then I'll leave GS forever.
