How's the Wii selling so good?

I own xbox 360 and i am planning to get one, my PS3 friends got one, my sister got one, and my computer professor got one. oh..and i also saw an atheist got one too.

What? Preference of belief system influences your console choices? Wow, sounds like something we should waste money on researching.

It's selling so good because it attracts a wider audience with it's price-point and anyone-can-pick-up-and-play attribute of the controller. I get my *** handed to me by nongamers with some Wii games.

they have been promoting it very well but that really doesent tell the whole story.

its like with PS2. i remember shortly before its release...its victory was already like a forgone conclusion with alot of ppl. the DC was effectively dead before it launched over here. despite PS2s crap launch...it constantly sold very well here. sony managed to strike a chord with the market....twice.

nintendo has done the same thing with the wii and DS. perhaps its because alot of ppl were shocked at the PS3s price and thought "crap it ill get a wii". maybe wii sports really was a killer app (it certainyl got my dad and sister interested i have to say). maybe its simply because its white and looks like a big ipod. maybe there just routing for the underdog. i dont know. by all accounts it shouldnt be trouncing the competition like it is. its selection of games isnt exactly stellar at the mo.

It's a really fun console with great potential, it's cheap, easy to use and sturdy. It's something different. It has the VC if You missed out on things and it can get someone special to You into gaming if You want it.

I don't understand why people think it shouldn't sell well. It may not have much games yet, but i've had so much fun on this thing already.

I'm still convinced this thing should become and will become incredibly popular amongst gamers, especially the experienced ones like me who like to see the industry doing something daring and new, pulling us out of the boring dumbifying slumber.
If only the Wii would have more games.. 2d adventure games, rts'es.. You know, it's a great console to revive some lost genres on and re-invent others. I'm still pretty damn excited about my Wii! Yes i just said a bad word nintendo taught me :D

id like to think its a combonation of all those things and a system cannot get by these days without a bunch of reasons to buy it

Firstly its 250 dollars. Well below the price of the others.

Secondly there is only one version. No core, no extra gigs, no higher resolution cables.

Thirdly no hd tv required.

Finally, it does not intimidate casuals. The stories and games that the hardcore like do not appeal to casual. We (hardcore) want long compelling stories. Casuals want quick fun with a low learning curve.

if you wanna be honest to yourself...the main but not only reason why the wii is selling soo good its because of its price...

but thats just my opinion
