OK .. this isnt a rumour or specualtion, This comes from the horses mouth, Itll probably come out in the press at some point, but you get the news ahead of time.

Micorsoft is cutting back its activity at microsoft games studios japan. The reason is simply that "it is not going as well as they expected" (Not sure what that means but thats what i was told). A lot of staff are being layed off and no new employees are being hired. Im not sure how this will effect the production of lost odyssey (probably not at all). But It will surely point to a gradual roll back of microsofts plans to buy their way into getting more japanese dev support, (or maybe they feel like they are already in a strong enough position to convince japanees devs to work on the 360 platform.)

make of this what you will.......

if this is true, then my reason for m$ for taking DMC and attempted rumors of taking mgs and ff are guess off.  M$ cant sell the 360 in japan and even the games that were made for japan arent selling as well as hoped.  I thought M$ plan was to take franchises that already sell well to the jp market on put them on 360.

if they are cutting back then, that rules my theory out.

Because Japan is the only gaming market and they have no possible way of pushing those games to any country outside of Japan.

It's a good idea. They have no chance of winning that market so pooring so much money into it is not a good idea when that money could be better spent elsewhere.

Like someone said before, unless you want to lost all your cred, then post a link, or it has to come true because if true, you just laid to rest alot of spectulation about DMC and MGS going multi-plat.

[QUOTE="pippin73"]feel free to quote it .. then ill quote you when what i TOLD you has happened becomes public knowledge. You people really are small minded children aren't you. I am not flaming, I thought there might be a few people intelligent to debate what seemed to me to be a very interesting event. As i said in my original post, this does not necessarily mean microsoft is pulling out of japan or has failed to tie up Japanese support. It might be that they are confident of continued Japanese support without having to pump 100s of millions of dollars into their game studio The above isnt even remotely witty anyway, are you 13?

Looks to me like that last bit is just to cover your own behind if your guessing doesn't pan out. If you did know the answers, wouldn't you be more...firm. I'm not saying you are wrong or right, because I have none of the answers. All I can go by are media sites and MS. 1. No one knows you. 2. No proof to back up your claim. 3. You give us no reason to believe you. It's not a matter of age or maturity but one of skepticism. If it makes you feel better then think of the posters coming at you with a scientific mindset.

I really doubt there cutting back on Japan all of a sudden if they try hard enough they will do it eventually and what about DMC4 they got hold of that some how and the fact that the guy who made blue dragon and lost odd said they reached there target in sales of Japan for blue dragon, they didn't think the game was going to sell well but it boosts the 360 sales, that was the aim.. so why would they just give up.

They poored so much money into every 360 they make.. they not long a go started making profit on the 360.. same with Japan eventually they can and will start making money there if they try hard enough.

Not really. Yesterday there was a thread with someone posting speculation as well without providing a link. I told him to provide a link. He refused and I told him again to do it and I got moderated. So apperently it's not flamebait.

The 360 is flopping in japan so it's possible they may do some cutbacks.

This is straight from the horse's mouth, so take my word for it: Sony has officially surrendered the console war in Japan. But don't ask me for a link, because it's straight from the horse's mouth.

But the most PS2s were sold in North America. North America, as any gaming expert will tell you, is where the big money is to be had.

Lol how stupid do you think i am? Microsoft are working harder in Japan than in America and Europe, they didn't fund mistwalker for nothing...

And if the 360 gets FF13 (which is looking very possible right now) then the 360's chances will explode.

Looks like MS is transitioning to a strategy of partnering with 3rd parties, rather than developing their own games for the Japanese market. Fine by me - put those resources into Bungie and Turn 10!

If what you mean is that Microsoft is culling its internal Japanese developers in favor of contracting to other parties such as Mistwalker, then this wouldn't necessarily be seen as a bad move by Microsoft--more like a trimming of the fat. Microsoft had little in terms of internal studios in Japan, anyway--all their big tickets such as Rare and Bungie are western.

Perhaps if they are to heed the advice of Mistwalker and find more competent advertisers, then they can still improve the 360's image in Japan.

I think they have Mistwalker company making games for them there, and they could always support their japaneze games like Infinite Undiscovery ( i think it is called that), with a lot less people, they could always divert some work to US development teams

Also 360 gets more and more japaneze support, DMC4 etc, so it might actually be good to focus on getting more JRPG's and games that will sell huge like FF13, and keep the best of games they do make in japan, like those from Mistwalker

BTW are the news confirmed yet ?

Wow, this is pretty big if it's true. I had always believed MS would be willing to take really large hits to break into th market. I guess, they've already used up those resources now. If this is true, MS chance of winning this gen has just gotten slimmer.

This may not necessarily be a bad thing. Like I said before, if having internal Japanese development studios isn't working out, then perhaps it's time to try a different tactic (like in this case, assisting interesting third party such as Mistwalker Studios and better wooing the big boys like Capcom), and this seems to be working out better.

Call me uninformed, but what are those games the japaneze part of MS is making ? I know none !!!! So, what cut backs would those be ? If you mean those Mistawalker games, well they can cooperate with US developers to make them, you do not need full force in Japan anyway

BTW is they divert money to getting FF13, then this move would eb the best ever actually, Mistwaker, Tri-Ace AND FF13 would really break into japan
