Today may seem like just Thursday to you, but to Japan, it was the day pre-orders started for Nintendo's 1seg DS tuner peripheral. The peripheral, which makes the DS capable of receiving 1seg digital television broadcasts, is being sold exclusively through Nintendo's e-commerce site.
Based on a report from Sankei News, one sales source may not be enough for the item. The news site reports that the start of pre-orders caused such a rush that Nintendo's servers were overloaded and people were left unable to connect.
So how many units did Nintendo sell in this first day? Nintendo's PR department issued a statement: "We started taking orders at 1:00PM. It seems that there were many hours of confusion. We still do not know specifics on the state of pre-orders."
Those who order the 6,800 yen device will receive it on the 20th.
