So a lot of people in here like to use these hype threads as ammo. But I was thinking the other day about how reliable the threads are. And how easy it would be to sabotage a thread like this.
So, there's no poll to keep it from being anonymous. Good. Everyone must post what they think the topic game will score when reviewed on GameSpot. Great. Casey will then close the thread, keep it safe, count the votes, and will pull it out when needed. Great.
But here's the issue. If I hate Wii and all of the games that come with it and I want it to fail, I'd try and sabotage one of its game's hype. So, I'd go into the hype thread for that game and hype it real high. If the game gets reviewed that high, no big deal, I was right. If it doesn't, than I get to claim "teh pwnage" on sheep.
And so you say, "But we can just go back to the thread to see how someone voted." Yeah, I know. But who does that? Who's going to page through tons of posts on tons of pages to find that needle in a haystack? No one. There's no accountability here.
What do you guys think? Are these hype threads reliable?
