One day you walk into a car dealership and you see a great car. You spend a lot of money on it and it has all the great features you love like power windows and lock, ABS, GPS, great sound system, and gets great mileage. You love this car and you drive it around everywhere. Things are going great until one day everything changes. Out of nowhere the manufacturer of the car comes and says that you can no longer have the power windows and locks. Would you accept this? Then a while later they come back and say that the GPS and sound system are now gone. Would you stand for this? Everyone would answer no to these questions since they would not be pleased by these actions. Then why do people still support the PS3 when all Sony does is remove the features you pay for?

Depends on why I can't have these features? Is it because power windows have proven to be an increased security risk making my car easier to break into? Your post has nothing to do with WHY sony removed the features is did. If there were features in cars that let people steal that car from there dealerships I'm sure they would take it out.

lol, well if the dealership came and removed my stereo, i would call the police lol.. Seriously though, all companies do things for a reason, and consumers (or fanboys) spin it in the way that makes them feel better. I think you are worrying about petty stuff. Thats just me. The PS3 is cheaper, has tons of games, and plays bluray movies. As long as it still plays games i really dont care what they took out :P

Sure, nobody used third-party USB devices or PS2 backward compatibility. Seriously, how can you convince yourself that you are happy with things being taken away?

Meh, I don't own a PS3 so I'm seeing this from Sony's view. The PS2 BC I would have been angry at, but this way Sony can make more money from the collections. The third-party USB devices must have pissed a lot of people off but Sony had a legitimate reason of doing it. If I was in their position I would have done the same.

It is not a neutral feeling. I don't eat at McDonald's but I think it would be a good thing for them to take away the Big Mac and that all people should support this change. Does this actually make sense to you? What logic are you trying to use?

That is perfectly fine since they are adding features and not removing them. Besides I have a choice to pay extra for Live or to look for a good deal on a 12-month card. I have no choice about using Linux or my USB sticks on my PS3.

So "Microsoft" is raising the price of gasoline.

Better yet, the car can only take "Microsoft" produced parts and they charge you for...that new car smell. Which is usually free.

The new car smell usually costs quite a few thousand dollars more than the used car smell.

Yeah, that's true. What you should've said is that they charge for you to drive your car on the free-way. And by the way, I'm not aware of any cars that you're able to mix-and-match parts on.

Odd, Sony hasn't removed any of the features I paid for. I didn't pay for linux, and I'm fairly certain no product manufacturer has any obligation to support non licensed products.

Um, BC wasn't removed, it simply isn't in new models, there is a difference. No one who had BC wasn't suddenly unable to play ps2 games after an update or something.

3rd party USB devices that are officially licensed still work, and why would you buy some unlicensed crap in the first place? The only feature removed you could even be angry about is linux, but you had to choose to update the system or you could keep it.

They also removed Backwards compatibility. Even if they never advertised it with the newer PS3s, it should still be considered as a downgrade of the PS3 platform. Apparently the removed support for some USB devices.

It isn't a downgrade when you're paying much less than a model that includes the feature. The 3rd-party USB device support removal is blown way out of proportion, as hardly anyone has had any problems with it. Most people complaining about it around here don't own a PS3.

Third party devices still do work. We've yet to see any proof any device was affected outside of unlisenced/counterfeit controllers.

And Sony never "took away" your PS2 BC. If you bought it with BC, it's still there. If BC isn't in your system, it never was... and they lowered the price because of its removal. That's like arguing your car company took away your sun roof because some other guy has one and you don't. :|

Nice try with the car/ps3 analogy. I wouldnt mind ONLY IF the car became cheaper/the company refunded money to me for losing features that were initially advertised as being superior to the competition Of course, this wouldn't work with Sony since they are removing minute features (except for BC)

You know that feeling of extreme anger you get when you buy a car and it breaks down on you not too long after buying it? That's how I feel about the 360...

Hey look, I can make car-console analogies too!

Hypothetical situation # 2?

Lets say one day you are paying for internet and the ability to play online. But one day a system is released that makes you pay extra to play online. Why would you continue to support that system when the other systems released in the market offer free online.

hmm. maybe im not so good at this hypothetical situation making stuff :P

LOLOLOL. Nice one.

What about this.

Say your entire life, youve been able to drive your car for free after youve already purchased it, with the exception of gas expenses. One day, a car manufacturer comes out and charges people a fee to drive their own car that they purchased. What should society do? BUY THE CAR. It comes with a build in XM radio! Much better than the other cars, although its possible to optionally install XM radio on those cars too.

Go buy one? Considering the amount of money you save on not buying "gasoline" you should easily be able to get a new and better one.

on a car its very clear cut..you own the car. you can trade in the car, you can swap the car and you can mod the car (which is a very big business). this does not apply to computers in general and consoles more specifically. its debateable whether you actually own the hardware. in some countries just hacking it is breaking the law...theres no burnden of proof that a cracked console is used for piracy. the manufacturers are also perfectly entiteled to bork your (well their) console if its hacked (ninty are known to do this with firmware updates). what definately is NOT a grey area is the OS on your console...that most definately belongs to the manufacturer and they can change and modify everything as they see fit. if they want to disable your USB ports then theres nothing to stop them. remove PS2 BC in the 60GB model, wii or 360? they can go right ahead. PC land doesnt get off scot free here either. on the PC you do own your hardware...you can hack and mod it to your hearts content. things like overclocking and case mods and all that all came from people hacking their hardware. but windows belongs to MS...there is no question and the same applies. if MS want to scrap all DX9 compatibility in windows 7 in a future update then they can go right ahead. if they want to disable all USB support then they can do that too. they would be incredibly stupid things to do for oh so many reasons...but theres nothing to say they have to support DX9 or USB. same with OSX....thats apples baby.

now days everybody wants to talk like they got something to say but nothing comes out when they move their lips but a bunch of jibberish.....

but seriously sony removed those features because it was a matter of security they didn't want the PS3 to be hacked or loose money because of pirated games it makes since to me. i never used linux all of my usb flash drives still work so i have no reason to complain
