Hypothetically, if the Wii wasn't under-powered...

This is just for the sake of arguement, and it is definetely a "what if". That said, let's say back in November 2006, Nintendo released a console, that wasn't under-powered and didn't introduce motion controls, and it matched the PS3 in power. My first question is, would they have gotten Third Party support? With all the multiplats going around, it would've just be another system to port games like Portal 2, Call of Duty games like MW2, Grand Theft Auto, Batman Arkham Asylum and even Battlefield 3.

Before the Wii, Nintendo systems were powerful, but something always kept them from Third Party support, mainly they're storage media (I am not including the NES and SNES). But, the Wii did use DVDs, not a media that is completely hard to develop for. The only problem not completely eliminated, is their online issue, but I'd presume that Third Parties could just use their own online systems or it just wouldn't matter to them. But that's my second question, why do you think that?

If the Wii was just another PS3 and 360 with Nintendo properties they would be in last place right now. Not because it would be a bad system. In fact, with Nintedo's properties it would probably be the most balanced in terms of game types.

But it is Nintendo. The online would be ****, the thing wouldn't play DVD or CD, the controller would be awkward, the 3rd party ports have always took a hit on Nintendo systems for some reason, and finally Reggie. That smug look gets on my nerves.

it would have gotten the 3rd party support as multiplat has become the norm. at least for a while. but it probably would have failed utterly also. since the nes ninty console sales were on a downward spiral and the GC really hit rock bottom. the trend would be that the GC2, so to speak, would have performed even worse. after a few years the 3rd parties would also probably stop bothering with a GC2 version.

The controller is what held them back the most, not just the PS2 esque hardware.

But reguardless of what ANYONE says, Graphics DO matter. Man, I was playing the PS3 port of Dead Space Extraction and almost threw up. Damn, sheep have to live with that every day?

Yes, it would get all multiplats.

I think if, instead of motion control, nintendo focused on the power of the Wii, then they'd also focus on getting support from 3rd party devs.

Of course, they're doing this with the Wii U ;)

But motion controls are still there for both the Wii U Pad and WiiMote(Plus?). This is still just hypothetical... still, I wonder why it is that Third Party titles didn't sell well on GCN yet did so enough on PS2 so that Third Parties stayed around.

Nintendo always gets third party support. It is just crappy support in the form of games for babies, licensed games like Disney or Barbie, etc. That is no different now that it ever was.

So if you are wondering what could have been with the Wii, look at the GC or N64. That is what you would have seen once again. Another lackluster console with lackluster support. No real reason for core gamers to support it beyond the usual Nintendo titles and no reason at all for a new audience to buy in.

I don't think the Wii U pad has motion control, I can't imagine flailing that behemoth around, it'd be really awkward :P

Well yeah... you can still use the Wii mote with it, but that's not the *main* method of control for the Wii U.

Third party games didn't sell badly on the GC, just not as much as on the other consoles, esp. the ps2. The GC got *most* multiplats.

At 1:06 it says Use Motion to Control with the New Controller. That's the trailer from E3.

It would have gotten more multiplats but the rest of the 3rd party support would still suck because Nintendo develops many of their own games.

That's just a gyro sensor, when I think of motion control I think of shaking the controller back and forth :P

This. They'd just be in the same position that they were with the Gamecube: Last place in sales, further mediocre support from third parties, and on a continued decline into irrelevancy.

Yes, hypothetically it would have gotten other multiplats. Multiplats are good for devs because its more dollars. I agree with Zimdoom though, Nintendo focuses on the wrong third party to attract mature gamers. Of course; they know that xbox/ps3/pc has a strangehold on mature gaming, so they don't bother and scoop up all the cauals/youth gamers. With the most consoles sold by a vast amount, they clearly made the right choice.

Well if the Wii had the power like Xbox and PS3 it wouldn't be Wii. The Wii at least has a unique experience to it like the PC. Different types of games and different ways of playing.

Xbox and PS3 guys just argue about the same bullsh!t over and over again. Comparing each pixal and exclusive....

This just in! The only difference between Xbox and PS3 is ones White and the other is Black.

Probably. But the reason to own Nintendo consoles has always been Nintendo's first party studios.
