Thanks to the media, we get all this crap about casual games and hardcore games, and the Wii gets bashed just because it has a lot of them. Why can't games just be about fun? Not which games have the most blood, action, violence, etc. Way too often games are ignored just because they are deemed "casual" by this stupid biased gaming media.

All of you at SW, have you ever realized that today's so called "casual" market of younger kids will actually grow up one day and be in the same place as you? Yep, a proven fact. Kids grow up. And once they move on, they will start playing the so called "hardcore" games, and the cycle starts over again. If you can't get them into games, you have no future market.

With no future market, there are no games.

So please, people at SW, please consider

It sounds like you are offended that you love a console that has a ton of casual fans and casual games. While there has always been a Casual gaming market, Nintendo with the DS and Wii, found BLUE OCEAN, the Nongaming Crowd. So, that's where some of the media latches on too. There's still hardcore games too though.

The Media has noticed what we have all noticed, the Wii's Library is different than the other consoles, so they need a quick way to describe it, but it's not exactly all that wrong.

While the Wii is home of the Non-gamers and Casual Gamers, there's still hardcore Nintendo fans around, and Nintendo makes games for them too. It's okay, tis the way of the world.

I like your Zelda Avatar's and your Sig that has like 5 Nintendo unions you are in, pretty cool.

We live in a New Nintendo Era, One that is FAR less Hardcore Game filled, and there's no going back.

TC, bottomline, call it what you will, but there is a HUGE DIfference between how the other consoles operated in the past and how the consoles are today. THe Wii is catering to a NEW CROWD, a different crowd, call it what you want, but it's happening day in and day out.

Casual, hardcore, core whatever, don't worry about it. Just play games and screw the media, fanboys and bias. You'll enjoy gaming far more that way.

It's all a big illusion created by peoples egos any way. "Hardcore" just means "I want to look down at everyone because I spend a lot of time doing this pointless activity". It has little to do with games (besides target audience and demographic, but that doesn't dictate who buys the games, I mean just look at Gears), it has more to do with the players playing the games, however ironic "hardcore" may sound.

i agree that casual vs. hardcore isn't a good distinction but we have to describe the difference between the wii's library and the ps3/360 libraries somehow. Does "shallow" vs "deep" do it better?

Not all hardcore games are bloody and violent. Ratchet and Forza are 2 great examples. Casual games are games to be played casually, 30 minutes here and there. Hardcore games are for people who want to put the time in and are fun as long as your playing. SSBB is a great example of both of these. I can play SSBB for a short amount of time, like 3-4 matches, or hours to get one of those trophies. The first is a casual approach, the second, hardcore. A game like Uncharted or Resistance you will want to do a few levels before you are done. A game like Wii sports or Wii music can entertain you for about 20-40 minutes, which is why these are casual. Its all about how long you play time is and how you use that time, not the gore and violence. I prefer hardcore because I find them fun. I would not game if they were not fun. I also find most casual games pointless.

Most of the hardcore games people claim are hardcore are not even hardcore in the first place. And I agree that the arguement is getting old. Time to move on.

oh please. Games like MGS4, mass effect, assassin's creed, resident evil 5, and fallout 3 could be about fluffly kitty cats and their gaming depth would overshadow the wii's library.

Ahhhhhh, seriously, that's funny. I love RE5 but it is not deep at all lol. There is more thought provoking stimulatinf gameplay and content in Zack and Wiki for goodness sakes. This is why SW is not cut out to discuss depth.

NONE of those games have anymore depth than something like Mario Galaxy or Metroid Prime 3. Why are we still under the misconception that consoles are hardcore?

Some people have gotten further than the age where they play Zelda and Mario games. That's all I can say.

I also find it sad that most people here can't accept different opinions. I said "some people", not "everyone" because I'm not a close-minded d*ck. The Wii is getting hate because of kiddy games and only because of that (also graphics, but that's not a biggie). Deal with it.

People misunderstand the comparison of casuals and hardcore players. It's not dictated by what games you purchase or what console you own. It's dictated by your mindset. Example: I've spent over $3,000 on gaming this generation. I own all the hottest hardcore titles from Halo 3 to CoD4 to MGS4 to whatever, you name it. Yet, I consider myself a casual gamer because I play games on a leisurely basis. I'm no "hardcore" gamer.

I believe the difference between hardcore and casual gamers is the way they play games and keep up with the news, for ex: I can play a casual game in a hardcore way and vice versa, it is true that some games are made mainly for casuals but that doesn't mean hardcore ones can't play it eh? I prefer to play games you like and ignore whatever people say about it as long as you enjoy the game and the way you play it.

The only complaint I have is that Wii games all lack the depth of most PC or 360 games. Is this a bad thing? Not entirely; but the Wii will probably NEVER have a game as deep as say Oblivion, or Fallout 3. Hell; I can't even imagine a game the same quality as the first Halo on the Wii. Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess wasen't even as deep as previous Zelda installments; and sometimes it feels like Nintendo is downgrading. The newest Mario game has an option to PLAY the game for you.

But on this discussion; I just play whatever appeals to me at the time; be it Smash Bros, Fatal Frame, F.E.A.R., etc. I just play games to play games.

Because the difference is TC, the audience the games are directed at. The wii having alot of simple but fun games isn't for everyone, some people like more cinematic and twitch based games.
