Heavy Rain is the only title I can think of that properly uses violence in a video game. In Heavy Rain, violence isn't glorified. It isn't "cool". In fact, instances of violence in Heavy Rain often disgust the viewer. And in general, players are encouraged to avoid violence.

David Cage said that 85% of PS3 users fail "The Shark" trial in Heavy Rain. This goes to show that PS3 users have a good moral compass.

Thats why I sold the game after one playthrough (also because I wanted store credit and did the best ending too lol). It is just too much at times. This game really isnt for the faint of heart.

And remind me on what the "Shark Trial" is again please?

I take it you're not the type who enjoys videogames for what they are: entertainment and art.

Guess Im part of the 15% of people who did do it then :P But yeah I agree. The only thing i thought was a little over the top was
when you're Mr Shelby and after almost drowning in the car, you bust into the contractors house (i cant remember his name) and manage to kill every one of his 5 million body guards with one clip.
am i the only one that didnt feel attached to any character? By the end of the game i didnt care who lived or died. I think it would have been better to playthough the game with one character rather than switching between four. I expected Heavy Rain to be better than what it was.

Game is mad freaking intense. I had to stop and think many times. I love Mr. Cage.

Btw, I played a good guy, but I did complete every trial. They asked "How far would you go to save someone you love?" and I went about as far as possible while remaining as good as possible. That's all I'll say without spoilers.

What about the part where Shelby breaks into the mansion and potentially kills about 10 guards in a very well choreographed shoot out with very little thought or effort?

Yeah, that was unnecessary violence. Some of it was also over dramatic. :D

Who are you to say what videogames are or are not? They are both those things, but there's nothing to say that they can't be more than that too. The medium is still young, there's far for it to go yet.

I recently Platinumed it, and some of the endings I missed on my first play through are quite shocking. The three endings I'm talking about all involve
Ethan killing himself (two where he blows his brains out, and one where he hangs himself in his prison cell)
I was genuinely quite taken back by them all.

Oh I know, WTF was that? then they give you that choice, I saved him..lol, and I completed all trials, the hardest to pass were 3 and 5, it was really...you know, hard to decide whether to do it or not.

I played through Bioshock 2 twice saving every little siter and letting all 3 plot characters live even though I was planning to do one each.
