Here's my dilemma: I can only afford one system, and even if I could buy more than one, I wouldn't have the time. I'm not a heavy gamer; I'm a busy grad student, who gamed a lot in high school/college but stopped doing so once I started getting busier. I had a 360 when it first came out, but it got stolen (out of my luggage, of all things--they cut off the lock) and since then I've only been dabbling occasionally in old-school PS2 land.
The pros/cons as I see them:
PS3: PROS: Great system--has the most oomph from what I hear. It's also, of course, backward compatible with my old PS2 games, so it would be nice to know that someday I can ditch this old, clunky PS2 I have. Also, I love the MGS series, Devil May Cry, Resident Evil, etc. CONS: Expensive. Cost is coming down, but still...damn. Not much of a selection (although I'm sure it will get better). Also, with GTA IV coming out on both PS3 and 360, it's less imperative that I get a PS3 (If GTA were still exclusive, I'd buy the PS3 no question).
360: PROS: As I mentioned, I had one before and enjoyed it immensly. I had fun online. Great selection. Lower cost (and I can always settle for the Arcade version if I feel like it). Also, Halo 3. There's some new interesting games I haven't played yet. CONS: The only series/franchise I really get into that's exclusive is Halo. But if Resident Evil 5 comes out on both PS3 and 360 (which I think it will) then I have less of a problem. I'm still missing MGS and DMC though. Another thing: the PS3's graphics/capabilities will eventually surpass the 360. It has a lot more rev under the belt.
Wii: PROS: Cheap. Popular (even with old folks). Seems to have a decent selection...but... CONS: No Halo. No GTA (that I know of...could be wrong). Nothing but Zelda, which I really enjoyed, but it won't make me buy a system for it. Also, I think I'll look like a nut throwing a damn stick around to get things to move on screen. Graphics aren't as good as either.
There you have it. Right now I'm leaning toward the PS3...but if someone can convince me to sacrifice MGS and DMC for the 360, then I'll take it into account. I'd say right now I'm about 70% toward PS3.
