Here's my dilemma: I can only afford one system, and even if I could buy more than one, I wouldn't have the time. I'm not a heavy gamer; I'm a busy grad student, who gamed a lot in high school/college but stopped doing so once I started getting busier. I had a 360 when it first came out, but it got stolen (out of my luggage, of all things--they cut off the lock) and since then I've only been dabbling occasionally in old-school PS2 land.

The pros/cons as I see them:

PS3: PROS: Great system--has the most oomph from what I hear. It's also, of course, backward compatible with my old PS2 games, so it would be nice to know that someday I can ditch this old, clunky PS2 I have. Also, I love the MGS series, Devil May Cry, Resident Evil, etc. CONS: Expensive. Cost is coming down, but still...damn. Not much of a selection (although I'm sure it will get better). Also, with GTA IV coming out on both PS3 and 360, it's less imperative that I get a PS3 (If GTA were still exclusive, I'd buy the PS3 no question).

360: PROS: As I mentioned, I had one before and enjoyed it immensly. I had fun online. Great selection. Lower cost (and I can always settle for the Arcade version if I feel like it). Also, Halo 3. There's some new interesting games I haven't played yet. CONS: The only series/franchise I really get into that's exclusive is Halo. But if Resident Evil 5 comes out on both PS3 and 360 (which I think it will) then I have less of a problem. I'm still missing MGS and DMC though. Another thing: the PS3's graphics/capabilities will eventually surpass the 360. It has a lot more rev under the belt.

Wii: PROS: Cheap. Popular (even with old folks). Seems to have a decent selection...but... CONS: No Halo. No GTA (that I know of...could be wrong). Nothing but Zelda, which I really enjoyed, but it won't make me buy a system for it. Also, I think I'll look like a nut throwing a damn stick around to get things to move on screen. Graphics aren't as good as either.

There you have it. Right now I'm leaning toward the PS3...but if someone can convince me to sacrifice MGS and DMC for the 360, then I'll take it into account. I'd say right now I'm about 70% toward PS3.

PS3 or 360. The Wii is just not a good primary system for anyone but hardcore Nintendo zealots. I'd learn towards PS3 with the huge titles coming this year.

Ok, I think I just went down a few percentage points. I didn't know DMC was on 360.... I guess it shows how long I've been out of the game.

just buy both ds and psp and you're all set

both of them are not bad, and the fact that you can bring them anywhere

but if console is what you want, then

ps3 >> if you know the game of ps2 and like to have their sequel

x360 >> if you like the game in x360, i mean the fps

wii >> if you like the idea of wiimote

definately don't trust this guy.

I would recomend you the Xbox 360, it has DMC4, it will get Resident Evil 5,you'll get exclusive downloadable content for GTA IV, Halo 3, Gears of War and Gears of War 2, Mass Effect, Dead Rising, Saints Row, Viva Piñata. Great variety, great games, great online service, great console although it's not as reliable as the Wii or the PS3, but the great games make up for it definately. :]

Buy a 360. I do not recommend the Wii by itself. The 360 has the best library of games right now, go with that.

Go PS3, X360 you will constantly be spending extra money on... MS knows how to nickel and dime it's customers.

Also PS3 is selling better, it has the best games graphically, Sony has more exclusives, online is free, and it just does a lot more.

The 360 has a great selection of games atm. The PS3 has a "so-so" selection atm. In the future however, games such as Killzone 2, Resistance 2, Haze, SOCOM, God of War 3, FF13, MGS4, etc... will be arriving. So if you don't mind waiting, the PS3 is the better choice.

Do note though that the 360 also has some nice titles coming out: Gears of War 2, Alan Wake, Too Human, etc...

So it's pretty much up to what you prefer.

Yeah I agree. The future investment may just be worth it...I know I'd be kicking myself in the nuts when SOCOM and FF13, not to mention MGS4, come out. I might be able to live without Halo.

Right now, I'm about 75% PS3, despite the majority wanting me to get a 360.

And yeah, it is hard to be a fanboy. One, I'm not a teenager anymore, and two I just don't care enough. It's a relatively pointless endeavor. It's like arguing for Taco Bell over Carls Jr., or Fritos over Lays. I like all of them.

Obviously regardless of which console you choose, you're going to be missing some great exclusives. If you take the PS3, you'll miss out of Fable 2, Banjo, Forza 3, GeoW 2, Alan Wake. However if you take the 360 you'll miss out on MGS4, GT5P, LBP, Killzone 2, Resistance 2 FF13, Haze, Motormstorm 2. and PSHome.

Honestly, this time last year I would have said 360 without any second thought, although honestly PS3 just has so much more going for it in 2008 that you would be really kicking yourself if you didn't choose PS3. You also get the added Bluray drive, built in wireless, built in web browser, free network play, larger HDD (Unless you bought the 360 elite).

Go PS3, you won't regret it.

Well crap that was totally unhelpful of me. Sorry.

Anyways, if you are already 70% toward a PS3 then just go for it. The $400 price is great for what you get. No BC kind of sucks but that shouldn't be an issue for you unless your PS2 decides to die. The PS3 has great games available already. I have both 360 and PS3 so I always get multiplats on my PS3, so for me it doesn't get a lot of attention since I only get the exclusives for it. But for someone that will have it as there only system, it's great.

I bet there will be a wii gta game of some kind this gen. I have a wii and there have been a few games that really show how great gta with motion controls would be. The motion sensing is not precise, but ultimately gta is rough around the edges so it's not a problem I think. Starting with godfather as a model, they could add elements of no more heroes and zack & wiki to make something special I think.

my 2 cents anyway. maybe there wont be a gta wii, but if rockstar likes money they'll do it...

If you have to play halo and gears, and really really want an in depth online community. The 360 is a good choice. Don't come PM me if you get RROD :P Kidding. But If those arent really a big issue, then get a PS3. I was on the fence about PS3 from the start, but since I got one in December I've been impressed. Yeah, I played on my friends 360 a lot, its a good system, but I witnessed two RROD on his machine and never wanted to go through that mess. Also the PS3 had built in wifi ($100 extra on 360) which I wanted. And yes, wireless works just fine assuming you arent 40 feet from the router. I have a wii, but I play it less and less.

darkelf172002

If you don't have time for a ton of games I would say you will be fine with either PS3 or 360. If you want the system for just gaming get a 360, if you have an HDTV and like the idea of HD movies you might want to consider a PS3. 360 has more games, but I think PS3 is starting to get enough games to keep a non-hardcore gamer happy.

I've had the 360 since launch and bought a PS3 about a month ago. I bought it primarily for blu-ray, but I'm sure I'll eventually buy some of its better games too.

Honestly, you should not come to system wars and ask for advice on what console to buy. Make your own decision. Read up on what all the systems have to offer. Then identify which system has the games you want to play now and in the future. After you've done your research, then go make your purchase and be happy.

Now if you have already done that and its the PS3 for you; then but it. Otherwise buy a 360 or a Wii.

I'd say right now I'm about 70% toward PS3.

fan-boys will tell you to get the wii,x360 or ps3 whatever console they own. i own only a PS3 and PC. since u like gta and mgs i would say go for the ps3 just because its more reliable console.

360 has... more exclusives.SEEN187

That's not true. Most of the good games are available on PC as well. Also MS has very little in house development of it's own. Especially now that Bizarre Creations, Bungie, etc have all left MS to become independent.

See....I'm having trouble with that decision, hence my posting on this site. And system wars seemed the most appropriate.

If I could decide lickety split, I would've bought the thing already.

And, yes I have indeed read up on what all the systems have to offer. Research isn't enough sometimes---sometimes you need personal experience perspectives from hardcore gamers who perhaps have both systems.

I think you need to respect people's intelligence just a bit more...
