Heh, yeah man. I'm really not worried about Mass Effect at all. It seems everyone's biggest gripe is the combat system; I was never a fan of the KOTOR combat system, and that's my favorite RPG ever. -Tretiak

Yeah, I really enjoyed Morrowind as well. Combat is always an afterthought to me when it comes to RPGs.
Does ME have a launch center at gamespot?
It almost seems like any game that has a launch center ends up getting a AAA score from gamespot; (though keep in mind that having AAA from gamespot doesn't mean said game had a launch center!)
I hope AAA quality, i think it looks like it is. But even if it's a lower score here, it doesn't mean tis not an incredibly awesome game! In fact, some of the best games have failed to get 9's at gamespot (symphony of the night, morrowind, metal gear solid, twilight princess)
I'm hyping 8.5-9.0
There is no way this game can get a 9.5 or 10 if it is short (its an RPG)...also there are some ppl complaining about the combat and texture loading...so it depends on who reviews the game...but I say 8.5-9.0
-D3MO-
Points could be docked off depending if the gameplay doesn't satisfy the reviewer (ex: controls, squad A.I., etc) and if the texture loading is annoying and happens everytime you play the game (think Killzone 1).

Or that but no one really complained about it and texture pop-ups don't really annoy me. it's the framerate I'm worried about in Mass Effect or for any game for that matter.
The issues I see being a problem with Mass Effect, besides being short for an RPG, is the poor AI reported by several places(Including Shacknews latest podcast and 1up), poor inventory management, and uninteresting side quests that don't reward the player. Other than that, the games has excellent production including graphics, writing, and sound, but Gamespot could easily mark the game down. I'm definately renting this game at this point, especially if I can beat it withing 2 to 3 play sessions, which is way too short for an RPG.

I think you and anyone else saying they're going to rent it ought to wait for the GS review and see how long they say it is.
I'd be shocked if 1UP's BS was true for most players.

You're absolutely right. Look at the Fallout games and Vampires The Masquerade, some of the best RPG's of all time, yet scored poorly here. The list goes on though.

1up/EGM already gave the game a 9, 9.5,9 in the latest issue. The question isn't if the game is good or not, but whether it's worth a purchase. I've got far too many games I'm playing right now, and if the main quest is under 15 hours, I'll rent it, beat it, and be very happy. After coming to this site since the late 90's, while I trust GS reviews, I play games across a range of scores, being that many of my favorites haven't always scored the best. Afterall, it's one man's/woman's opinion.

I'm going by what Shacknews just said in Friday's podcast, along with 1up's impressions, which I both trust. I'm sure you can "stretch" it out, but the main quest is around 14 hours.

I didn't say wait for the score, I said wait to see how long they say the game is. I have a very hard time believing that it'll actually be 12 hours long, or less than 15 for that matter. I'm betting twenty for the main quest for a normal player, and much more if you do side quests and really explore the dialogue.

I don't understand, one, maybe two people say ME main quest is 14 hours, yet anybody else that has played or beaten it is saying the main quest is around 20 hours long, and 10-20 hours longer if you do side quests, now tell me, when has 1-up ever been a credible source? If you actually take 1-ups word as fact, then Crysis=8.3 then, right?
Mass Effect will probably get AAA, but it won't be ground-breaking rpg like Final Fantasy or Chrono Trigger.King_of_Sorrow
FF and CT are terrible compared to Bioware's classics, sorry.

No JRPG could ever match BioWare's roleplaying games--not even the SNES classics. Especially FF.
They even tried with FF12, that was pretty much KOTOR from the gameplay to the Star-Wars-esque story.[QUOTE="OremLK"][QUOTE="King_of_Sorrow"]Mass Effect will probably get AAA, but it won't be ground-breaking rpg like Final Fantasy or Chrono Trigger.DaysAirlines

I would genuinely be very surprised if it got less than AAA here.
It isn't the type of game that I enjoy but I think those anticipating it won't be disappointed.

1up is a collection of gaming journalists, that's where the opinions come from and yes, they are very credible. EGM and GFW magazine are the two sources that I trust, both part of 1up. EGM gave Mass Effect a 9,9.5,9. WTF is the problem? GFW Magazine, my favorite gaming mag, gave Crysis an 8. The reviewer, Shawn Elliot knows his shooters and while I don't think the game should have scored that low, I respect his opinion. He was let down with the end of the game, whereas he thought the first 2/3'rds of Crysis was fantastic. If you read his review, it's more positive than most, he just has always scored games tougher. The magazine is to inform PC gamers, not argue about scores between platforms, as you can't compare that score to another. That's besides the point though. Listen, I'm a huge Bioware fan since the old days, you don't need to tell me how good ME is, I'm gonna love it, but it is short, that's already been confirmed.

You clearly don't read GFW Magazine (ex-CGW Mag) , among PC Gamers, it's a very credible mag. The thing is, numerical scores aren't the end of the world to most gamers, it's the actual damn review that counts. The review was written for a magazine, that's the problem, it reads for people that have obvioulsy already read online reviews, that's why they are written in a different format. They post them on 1up, and they should really stop, as people keep misundstanding the damn point of the write up. It's not supposed to read like a regualar review, otherwise , why would you buy a magazine with 1 month old reviews? You tell me.
Obviously, it'll get AAA.
Lemmingspot don't flop theirbig titles.
XenogearsMaster
Blue Dragon flopped hard. Anyway having spent some time with the game I can safely say it won't be below 8, that's a flop but not a mega flop. I feel it deserves 9.5 because it's the best game I have played this generation despite it's graphical flaws. If a reviewer did want to mark it down to an 8.0 score I can see some areas they could use but if they did do this I would feel they were not seeing the big picture.

People that actually already have the game said that they have been playing for 15+ hours and still havnt beaten it yet. And personally, a 12 hour game usually takes me a couple of weeks to beat. I still havnt beaten HL2 yet and i got TOB at launch. Id suggest not playing video games as much. It really makes the games last longer. Maybe get a job or something. Or even a life
(i know you will feel offended but that last line was only a joke... Or was it? :| )
