I cant take this place anymore!!!!!

OK i just finished mass effect last night and it will be one of those games that i will never forget..what an amazing experience.

Would be game of the year for me if it wasnt for the masterpiece that was Bioshock.

But aghhh the people on this forum are driving me nuts[sony fans in particuler] how on earth is this game a flop?...just because gs gave it an 8.5? WTF? it still has a 93 on metacrtic and gamerankings..and yet its still one of the biggist flops of the year.

WERE IS THE LOGIC??

Now i know i shouldent care what other people think about the game as long as i enjoyed it but to see people who have never even played the game calling it crap is just...so annoying i cant even think of the correct words to explain it.

Yes the game is far from perfect..has horrible frame rate and the graphics are last gen at times..they dont look nearly as good as the early videos sugested.

But the story..the scope....the music...i have never played in a world that was so....complete and real..its the only game i have ever felt like i was completly involved in...how my decisions actually mattered.

I dont like one company over the other and i cant wait for mgs4 and final fantasy13 and not to mention smash bros on the wii...im a games fan not a billion dollar corperation fan...so i dont care if the ps3 is way better then the wii because its the GAMES that matter.

And the fact that sony nazi's are trying to force people to to think mass effect is a flop is a horrible disgrace.

Again, it was hyped AAA. It got AA here. Its a flop.

I think that sort of answered your question. It was docked points for technical problems, and thus it 'flopped' here on Gamespot.

That does not mean that the game is bad. Many great RPGs had lower scores due to their technical flaws - it has always been a weakness in the genre, and doesn't mean much for RPG fans.

Then again, I'm also confused about what it means to be a flop.
According to the System Wars informational thread, 'flop' has nothing to do with a game's worth - yet whenever anybody posts a thread abot Mass Effect's storyline, fanboys love to throw in the word 'flop' every few posts...despite the fact that the reviewer thought that it had one of the best videogame plots ever.

It makes absolutely no sense...but that's System Wars. If you disagree with the stupidity here, then there's no point posting here.

Sounds like you don't know what the term 'flop' actually means. Let me enlighten you:

A flop is something that didn't live up to the hype it recieved. When a game flops,it does not automatically mean that that game is bad.

Flop in GS terms only means a game scored less on GS ratings than its hyped score was. It does not mean the game is bad, although that is possible.

It just means it was over-hyped. Its all part of the SWs "game". Stop taking it so serious.

Do you really think Metroid Prime 3 or Ratchet & Clank are bad games just because they flopped? Only the blind fanboys believe that.

I knew flop meant that it didnt live up to the hype but what i didnt know was that one review score meant that the comunity was able to label the game a flop...im pretty sure the majorty of people who have played the game think it lived up to the hype in terms of the overall package.

But like i said, what really annoys me is the cows who claim the game is rubbish because gamespot gave it an AA score.....i guess i should learn not to take this place so seriously.

I just hope people who arent crazy fan boys know that its a great game...

it is one of the biggest flop because it got much less than the lemmings expected (AAA, GOTY etc). you can see how big a flop it is just by noticing all these 'ME is great threads' created every hours or so since the game floppednaval

well i cant speak for other people but in my case it was a responce to people putting M.E in the same league with games such as lair....

My problem is not with the score i guess...i can understand that...but to see people put it in polls with lair is...wrong.

I agree with almost everyone here. Mass Effect is a fantastic game but it still is considered a "flop" because of the hyped AAA status.

(I wish it got the 9.0 though lol) It may have a 92% on Gamerankings but in System Wars we have to abide by Gamespots score......stupid but in a way fair.

Would you all consider Drakes Fortune a flop? I love the game but I never considered it one because everyone was guessing that it would get a 8.5, I thought it was a hyped AA

i still say one of the biggest flop mostly after lair and RnC. then again,how big a flop is determined by how much hyped it got and how badly the flop is taken. if crysis or halo 3 got a 8.5 then it would have been even bigger flop. doom3 is considered one of the biggest flop and so is Zelda : TP, because of this reason
