Yeah, me too. I played ME a bit at a friend's house and it was amazing. I'm getting it for Christmas.[QUOTE="-RPGamer-"][QUOTE="deavincalhoun"][QUOTE="Bansheesdie"]?deavincalhoun

Actually if you play it on normal, you can do just about everything for one play through just under 40 hours. But there is more to do that you cannot do in just one play thourgh.
Its pretty cool so far. i love the conversation system. the story is picking up fast. its just an all around nice experience from jrpgs and this is my first western rpg.deavincalhoun
Man, while the whole game is amazing (IMO), the last part is even better. I really envy you, playing through it for the first time. I'm on my second playthrough.
I'm 20 hours in, focusing on finding the Matriarch writings and useless drivel like that. Saren isa major badass. Like Steven Seagal badass. I still prefer Oblivion, but not by much.jackvegas21
May I ask why you prefer Oblivion? Not attacking, just wondering.

You have to unlock Hardcore. :| Of course your second play through is going to be shorter than your first. Is the game really complicated or is it easy to get into?

it was easy for me to get into and this is my first wrpg.

Unless he played it like me, my first playthrough was 16 and some hours, and my second was 26.
im getting it for christmas too. how would people compare it gameplay wise to oblivion. (which i loved). and please dont just bash one or the othercliff122316
I love Oblivion (put over 100 hours into it), and I think Mass Effect blows it out of the water. Better story, more immersive, better characters, better combat, and more humor (I love Joker in Mass Effect!) all make Mass Effect better (IMO).
Where in Oblivion you do a lot of sword slashing, you do a lot of shooting in Mass Effect. But in Mass Effect, you can have one character lift an opponent in the air while another throws him over a railing, throws him over lava, or just tear him apart with one of 4 kinds of weapons. You can AI hack electronic enemies to attack whatever is nearby.

Very easy to get into. You have "missions" and you have "assignments". Completing missions is what drives the story forward but it's good to do an optional assignment every now and then to make the game longer and it builds up more experience. The Journal in the game tells you exactly where to go and what to do. The Galaxy map puts in the names of key planets along the way to make it easier to find them.
I think Mass Effect suffers from the "Oblivion syndrome". A whole lot of areas to uncover, but no real reward for exploring them. Every planet is basically the same just reskinned. Every base, cave and mine has the exact same architecture and floor plan. I mean, the cultures in the game are so cool, why not have some of the planet feature unique temples and other buildings based on these people? Yes, I'm sure time and resources played a part in this, but we can only hope that the sequels will greatly improve on this. Money shouldn't be a problem anymore, after all.
But don't let my criticisms discourage you from enjoying this game, TC. It's still one of the best RPG's I've played(and right after The Witcher, talk about a one-two punch!). It's just the closer a game is to perfection, the more critical I get of them.

You are absolutely right. Also great idea about having alien temples. If MS allows them to use the HDD next time, maybe we'll see less barren planets and more architecture and actual uniqueness to each planet.

Do I think is the "funnest"? Well that depends I wanted a party that included Tali and Liara my first run through so the natural balance to that would have been a soldier. I'm playing through my third run (second was a new game +) as an engineer, which is alright (lesser version of what would be a rouge in most WRPG).
To be honest it's more aout a well rounded party than a given member.

I say Vanguard or Infiltrator, if you just want to have a mastery of every weapon but no hacking or decryption skills, be a soldier.
I've never played a WRPG. Do you think someone who's favorite RPG is Paper Mario would like them?sexy_chimp
Um, I guess. Is it the turn based paper mario? Mass Effect isn't turn based.

Me too, I can't WAIT to play it. I get to open one present on Christmas Eve and so I'm going to try and guess which one is Mass Effect! I hope I get it right lolThe story picks up even more the further you get into it. Try and resist the urge to speed through it like me :(Gimli524
yeah i skipped most of the side quests (i did like 2 or 3) because i wanted to see where the story was headed but the game is so awesome i jumped right into a second play through to do everything.

i was just a soldier and always brought along garris or kaiden because i upgrade their decrypting and garris has electronics. soldier is my favorite cuz i love using the guns. save a million credits and you unlock spectre weapons - the best in the game
Now that I think about it 32 movies worth of dialogue sounds kind of boring.sexy_chimp
honestly there is WAYYY more shooting and action parts than there is dialogue. the game almost doesnt even feel like an rpg aside from the character upgrading and skill sets. the combat is really good imo

I liked being an infiltrator because I upgraded my sniper skill to level where I could take Geth out in one hit.

All the dialogue is really interesting and helps build up the story, the combat is also fantastic and fast past paced. GET THIS GAME, it's awesome.

pretty much what i would've said. the dialogue is stuff you want to hear, the story goes where you want it to and doesn't have any annoying parts where you're saying to yourself "God this is so stupid why are they doing this" like most games throw in meaningless missions/quests. and there is tons of action, i mustve killed well over 1000 enemies throughout the game in 14 hours
Just finished it then. It will be interesting to play through as a bad guy at some point to see what happens, and get romantically involved with someone other than Ashley. Also, I noticed many crates I came across where it kept saying "decryption skill too low" or something. I wouldn't mind going for a class that will fix that next time. Very interesting game with a fun combat system. Well worth buying.
