Here me out: I really want a good RPG on my PS3 and Fallout 3 looks great.

The problem is that it's very similar to Oblivion... when I say that I didn't like Oblivion there a couple things to keep in mind:

-I was very confused with the story because it was my frist Oblivion

-I didnt really understand most of the features in the game.

I think that if I give Oblivion a fair try (I borrowed it from a friend so I dont have it anymore) I will enjoy it-- but I am more looking forward to F3 since I like the setting/story.

I am expecting some key differences but does F3 have a new story? Do I need to know what happened in F2 and F1 to understand F3?

Not understanding the story was one of the biggest problems I had with Oblivion because I just got so confused with it trying to understand what happened/where to go buy I know that if I spent more time with the game/took time to wiki the story I would certainly enjoy it (the graphics, control and gameplay were all great).

So what do you think? Again, I ask if F3 is a continuation or is it going to be easier to understand for a new player to the series?

wow, u didnt understand oblivion?.. Its a casual wRPG for consoles... the PC version of oblivion is much and much better with gamechanging mods.

Anywayz, if u a new to a certain genre than u have to put some time into it, like u said, u didnt even give oblivion a try. Maybe try that first b4 asking.

That depends on what you didnt like about Oblivion. What do you mean that you didnt understand the story? Oblivions story was quite simple. Well no one knows the full story of Fallout 3, just that your father has left the vault for some strange reason, and because he was so great and important to you, you leave to find him. The gameplay is simple like in oblivion, if you choose it to be, there is VATS if you would like the actual RPG element, other then stats and stuff. From what you've said, i think you would like Fallout3, its ok you dont have to know what happened in the last 2 games, well not that i know off - story might be mentioned from the past games, but it might be like in Fallout 2, well atleast for me it didnt seem as though the second one had some major major connection other then the how and why you are there. (ok major enough) but in Fallout 3 it seems that you start fresh, so i can imagine small gimicks from the first 2 but nothing major. Maybe you should ask yourself this question when more about the game has been found out, maybe a review. But with all that said, you should give Oblivion a try, it was the first i played in the series and it made sense to me, sometimes you have to just give in to the fact that theres Argonians and races like that, even though you dont know why lol - think of fantasy movies.

That's the major problem... everyone *should* have to have played the first two Fallout's to even enjoy the third. If you like guns and blowing **** up, chances are you'll like Fallout 3.

I think people got the wrong idea-- I only played Oblivion for like 4 hours so I never really got that far into it, but thinking back now Im wondering if I need to understand Oblivion 1-3 before I play Oblivion IV.

I just think that I didnt pay enough attention and got lost easily, but I'm wondering if it was a mistake on my part or if I just was confused because I didnt play previous Oblivion games.

no mistake at all, u can perfectly play elder scrolls 4: oblivion (the serie is called elder scrolls, not oblivion) without touching the previous installments. Many have done so.

No, the story wasn't that great anyway. The series is also called The Elder Scrolls, Oblivion is just the title of the 'episode' persay.

Yeah? Have you played it? The previews are saying quite the opposite of your usual negative posts about Fallout 3. Some are even saying that it does the Fallout name justice. So what if its different? Metroid Prime was different.

Prime still followed the canon, Fallout3 throws its out the window and pretty much tosses everything that is Fallout.

The only thing that Fallout 3 retains from the first two games is name and post-apocalyptic tone. Everything else has changed. Metroid Prime was Super Metroid incarnate in 3D. It took everything that was fantastic about the 2D Metroid's and made it 3D... then from there they made it even better with the following two iterations. That comparison is terrible. I don't have to play Fallout 3 to know it's a terrible Fallout game.

Its hard for me to tell you if you'll like fallout 3, more likely is that you're looking for another reason to buy the game. So my advice to you is dont think about it until its released and you get to read some reviews. If you pay attention to the story especially, then make sure the plot line is exciting and well intergrated into gameplay.

I, for one, don't give a damn about that-I never much enjoyed the original two Fallouts, to be honest. However, I will say that Fallout 3 is definitely on my "do not want" list of games, as, though I don't care about whether or not it's a true Fallout game, I do care about whether or not it is a true RPG, and, so far as I've seen, it is definitely not.

And I agree with whoever says your opinion is almost always on the money-I agree wholeheartedly with all of your post except the last sentence, about which I simply do not care.

First off there are no Oblivion 1 - 3, its TES: Arena, TES: Daggerfall, TES: Morrowind (Tribunal and BLoodmoon exp. packs) then TES: Oblivion (SI exp. pack), Arena and Daggerfall are very old now, but you could play them on a DOS emulator and they would help teach you alot about the lore.

Morrowind is on the Xbox and PC, and is beyond awesom, but if you're having trouble getting into Oblivion where the game basically holds your hands the whole way through, you will have a bich of a time with Morrowind.

I'd say, just get hold of Oblivion, there's plenty of books in the game that will go through the lore/backstory if you're willing to spend the time reading them, and it'll give you the best idea of what the F3 engine will be like.
