Weve seen this type of stuff before. Ppl act like this is some breakthrough game. Don't get me wrong, I liked it, but for me it wasn't this huge life changing exp. Lets see, first of all I wonder how many of these said ppl have played deus ex. That title brought RPG elements to the genre long before BS. Its also great you can shape the world around based on your choices but again, deus ex did this first. Second, the game is one huge dungon crawl in the vein of the dooms and quakes of the world in terms of level design with a few added 40s era items. I just didn't think the game was really anything special and I just couldn't force myself to finish it. I couldn't help but thinking of the game as a poor mans deus ex and deus ex invisible war.

TC..... you cant compair the first deus ex to bioshock its an unfair comparison.....bioshock is a really well done game that is revolutionary in its own way...maybe not by graphics or game play elements but in its atmospher is just increadable unlike anygame ive ever played....i hope you have your flame suit on cause calling out a front runner for goty is never good in these forums....

From an objective point of view I truly appreciate the game. Yes it has all been done before, but the fact is that few games ever get close to doing what Deus Ex did and this game pulls it off with real style. The depth to the gameplay is quite deep, which again is not the norm for FPS shooters.

At no point though did it truly draw me into its game world. I felt detached the whole way through. But the games strength is not how groundbreaking it is but how it manages to pull a unique turn in a genre which is defined by either tactical or run and gun.

Are you sure? its theme maybe new to gaming .. ART DECO. But ... its atmosphere was very similar to Doom 3's only it didnt make you jump at all, and the fear of death is removed.

I mean think about it, open spaces with enemies, then little tube-paths ... reminded me of Doom 3 when your walking on the planet surface really ... no different, both were very repetitive until the end, other than the Boss-Themed areas.

Just looking at the games you've rated and its rather interesting.

Halo 2, Halo 1, GRAW 2, Burnout 3, Chronicles of Riddick, GRAW, GoW, and FFVII, didnt actually bring much or anything new. Why do these games i listed deserve the 9.0+ scores you gave and praise?

Because they are good games even if they arent original.

sure in level design it is very simalar to doom but sorry a sunken city from the 40s is far far far away from a giant lab on mars 100 years or so in the future...

The magic of Bioshock is due in large part to atmospheric gameplay... true next gen atmosphere. Also, it is an incredibly easy game to manage, something deus ex was not... Its kind of like johan sebastian bach.... he didn't invent anything but he was better than anyone at was there at the time...

Different things move people in different ways. You just weren't moved by it, but that doesn't mean your opinion is any more of a fact than the people who do think it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. I prefer Deus Ex over System Shock 2 and BioShock, but I won't dare discredit both of those games, they're fabulous.

i for one thought that they made few bad decisions regarding what to change from ss2, killed the game for me. and then copying over of story elements from ss2 like the twist , made me appreciate the story a whole lot less.

The sense of challenge? at 1 point, I just wrench spammed a big daddy that was next to a Vita-Chamber, died a few times, returned to wrench him until death ... again thinking "I shouldnt be allowed to do this in a survival Horror"

I don't get it. I played SS2 and it really isn't that much better. Bioshock has more emersive graphics and it streamlined a lot of things so there is less inventory managment and more gameplay. And yes, I did play SS2 fist.

...or you could have just quick-saved prior to fighting the Big Daddy and tried killing him until you beat him the regular way? The majority of games have cheap quirks you can take advantage of. It doesn't mean that you should. If you start actively trying to ruin the experience for yourself, then it becomes your fault more than it is the game's.

Thats pretty Ironic, since Quick save is one of the cheapest features added into games.

Quick save isin pretty much all FPS' these days so you cant hold it against Bioshock. They're kind of needed anyway considering there are no checkpoints in the game, other than in between levels. But besides that... If quick-saving won't do it either, then just don't die. Challenge yourself. It isn't rocket science.

I feel the same. I'm to the part where the sub blows up and I just got my weapons back. Its not as good as I thought it would be. The artstyle is awesome, however.

yes, yes it was.... i listed reason I think the game is bad.... whats wrong with that? The game had average game play all the reviews talked about this... i did't like the 40s art style and all the enemies looked dumb.... The fact that they can do like 10 back flips back to back was only an added bonus to how dumb the enemies are.... so again, unless you would like to point out something, i would say i expressed my view very clearly while the other person did't.....

Bioshock is a very good console game, but not that great from a PC gamer's perspective, because of SS2. I liked it but I enjoyed STALKER a game with a smaller score much more. Bioshock was too simplified for my tastes.

I love Bioshock because of the story and the atmosphere. I really didn't mind that the gameplay was easy, or simplified or whatever. I was completely absorbed by the story from beginning to end.

Seriously, the twist was brilliant, even if it has been used before (I won't say which game because that would basically give it away).

You guys can complain about it all you want, but those hours I spent with Bioshock were some of the best gaming times I've ever had. The game had about 6 moments that absolutely blew me away, which is definitely more than I can say about other games.
