I Don't Get The Massive Hype Surrounding MGS4

the MGS series does not exactly appeal to the mainstream crowd (like the halo 3 and guitar hero crowd). The MGS games have sold well, but it never broke any sales records or anything.

MGS has always been a cult series, and has a cult following. I'm looking forward to mgs4 because i've alays been a fan of the series. Even if it got terrible reviews i'd still buy it because i'm a fan of this strange series. Where was all the hype for mgs3? And it's not just internet hype. People i know in real life are talking about this game:?

because metal gear solid was the best ps1 game, metal gear solid 2 scored a 9.6 and because metal gear solid 3was freaking amazing.

I can see a trend of the series selling less copies since the last game despite there being a larger install base. If the PS3 has a much smaller install base that MGS3 what will it sell like? MGS3 was a great game though and i think the failure of MGS2 had a big impact on its sales but the point still stands.

MGS series is one of the best but cows are goin to far with the final installment:
- the act like its going to be the greatest game ever
- they act like its gonna easly get a 10
-they act like this will not only save the ps3 but push it past the 360
-they act like a million copies being sold is easly achivemnt when its not even a great well known system seller

...it may be a great series but dont push it

MGS2 is the worst MGS by far. I hated it. Part of the poor sales MGS 3 got in comparison was ripple down effect to 2 being a letdown despite 3 a much better game. MGS1 was a system seller for the ps1, MGS2 was not a system seller for the PS2 and i think that MGS 4 won't be a system seller for the PS3 just my opinion.

mgs 2 and 3 only sold 10 million together out of 120 million ps2 owners. like the person before said its not a system seller compared to halo3, gta4, or guitar hero series

Dude MGS was never a casual a game. I'm a big MGS fan myself. And while it did sell pretty darn well I still think it has a core audience. One that seemed to have gotten smaller since MGS2 - MGS3

Anyway go around to casuals and talk MGS4. Infact just say MGS4 and see what they say.

At the end of day its getting as much(if not more) hype as its predessecors and with the fact thats its ps3 1st killer app, ist gonna sell really well.

Worse off I hear fools on XBL talking about the game since they suspect it'll go the 360, unless they're people who also go to gaming forums. Quite a few of my friends know of the game too.

Although two things. It might just have hype on forums but I thought you were going to say something along the lines of there isn't a HUGE advertising campaign for the game yet. Which would make sense, all there is so far is the advert with the snippet of the trailer in the Sony ads.

Even so, on Gametrailers the game has the second most viewed video of all time. Can't be all that bad now can it.

They may be some of the PS2s highest selling games but do you really think people are going to buy a console for a JRPG or a racer? You can get great racing games on a 360 right now and JRPGs are still a niche market in the west. They sold a lot because the PS2 has already established itself as the market leader and those were good games to own.

Metal Gear solid on the PS1 along with SMB3 and Metroid prime tie as my best games since i started gaming in 1990..MGS2 for me was kinda a letdown, if i had the power i would switch its score with MGS3 which i thought was a better game to be honest..I guess i just didnt like raiden..I'm currently playing MGS on GBC and soon starting portable ops...I plan on buying a PS3 to play MGS4 but i'm still thinking of waiting for a smaller PS3..

Its a AA franchise.

And the cows need this and FF to make themselves feel good about their awful PS3 purchase.

There aren't many great games coming out for the PS3, and something needs to get hyped.
