So... Completing a game isn't enough of a achievement for you? Fair enough.

Polarium - Challenge mode, should provide the replay value you'll ever need. :D... :)

What a sad state gaming has become if we need "bonuses" to make our games fun. How many times have gamers played through Double Dragon, or SMB3, or Sonic. We didn't need prizes, it was enough to have fun with a good game.

it's a sad, sad day for gaming when people won't play a game just because a game is fun, well thoughtout and addictive.

Meh, its human instinct to want to earn things...but boycotting systems because they don't have it is ridiculous lol.. Also I think trophies are an attempt to rip off ms's idea without making a carbon copy. But it lacks the score deal, which makes it less of an ego boost, making it less attractive.

Right so what your real problem is... you have an addiction to achievements... and how is gamescore a reward... it doesn't really show how good of a gamer you are more so than it does how sad of a gamer you are.. playing all those shiddy games just to get those extra 1000 achivements.. Oh and PS3 has an achievement system on the way so you know..

Since when have achievements becmoe so important. IMO achievement points are a way to articifially lengthen a game and make gamers buy or rent as much games as possible to increase your gamerscore

How about the fact that you beat a game? Its not like you need some online collectable to tell you "Oh I'm glad I beat that game."

Remember the time when you used to play games because they were fun? When you used to like the entertaining challenges and fun and/or epic stories? No? Sheesh| Kids these days. I wonder if today's kids are even willing to watch the saturday morning cartoons if they don't get cake afterwards.

Yeah, achievements are kinda cool, I didn't use to like them at all before, but now I'm kinda getting into em (thanks to GH II). Although I find some are just too difficult to obtain. Not because of skill required, but because of amount of gametime played needed to achieve them (not a bad thing per se, just an observation). So I really only pay attention to achievements in games which I get really involved in (like GH II :D )

Yeah, Achievements are nice, but shouldn't playing a great game be it's own reward? Do you really need an arbitrary set of accomplishments set by a developer to feel like you accomplished something?

All games should be like that.

At the ending you'd get "here's a virtual cookie, you can't eat or in any way interact with it but here it is!"

I buy multi-plat games on 360 strictly because of achievements. I like the added objectives, and prolonging of the titles that they offer. I just wish Nintendo would jump aboard.

Man, you want me to break out Tetris again... :(

I have Tetris DS, that game pwns all other puzzle games, its so fun. I got up to level60 or somethingon standard mode with endless enabled. Basically by the time you get past level 30, the game does not speed up anymore. I have a highscore of over 3 million points for that mode.

I swear, gamers these days are spoiled.

There used to be such a thing as wanting to beat a game because the act of beating it was its own reward. Those were in the days before save points and backtracking. Losing your last life on the last boss and having to start all over again... I miss 80s gaming sometimes.

No. No one feels this way. And they shouldn't. It's ridiculous.

If anything, a sense of achievement in unlocked goods (resistance, God of War), or weapons (resistance) is what I really want out of a game, seeing as it contributes a circular value for the game. Not to mention the "trophies" should let you get your achievement on with the PS3, if you're a sad human being or something.

My Wii came today and I've had a 360 since November. I've been playing the Wii all day and in my oppinion it feels like something is lacking when you don't have achievements. The achievements give a bit of bragging rights I suppose.

Achievements are cool because they are a record of your gameplaying history and they often give a game extra incentive to play through again to get the achievements.Believe you me you might not even notice it at first but even if you are somebody who just beats a game one one difficulty and never looks back you will eventually start to really appreciate the concept.

Its also a badge of honor among other gamers possibly the greatest badge one can hope to attain.

JiveT

Let me explain. The second time you play Resistance Fall of Man you get something like 4 new weapons and 1 new grenade. It ends up making the game more fun and ultimately better the second time around.

Additionally, the game allows you to unlock "achievements" in the game. These achievements amount to points, which you can then use to buy art and other content.

For the "community" factor, it has badges and awards that you receive for certain multiplayer-only achievements (headshot, weapon related, most often). There are a huge number of these. They ultimately give a better indication of your online gaming characteristics than anything on Xbox Live, in addition to a number of extremely expansive statistics. Based on a number of experience points, you "rank up," which other gamers then see, knowing your online reputability. Single player clears net you a medal online. Additionally, even the online "achievements" offer content upgrades. You can unlock outfits, accessories, and helmets. This creates diversity (practically everyone has a different character model, and the real vets are truly distinguished), complicates and broadens online play to a certain level.

This, or a number. Whatever.

We've got leaderboards too, on Motorstorm, GTHD, whatever.

In addition to that, PSN, through Home, will get those lame little trophies.

Just saying, achievement points are extremely weak compared to what we get on PSN.

(spoiler)

There was a sequel called God of War 2. Now, a PSP game called Chains of Olympus that is a prequel to the original game is set to come out. A God of War 3 game for PS3 will probably be in the works.

I don't think they ever advertised any game with Kratos' (the main character) brother. There was a modern day spinoff trailer and you learn Zeus is Kratos' father. This is presumably God of War 2, and the modern spinoff is presumably not in the works.

EDIT: Actually, there was a trailer with Kratos brother. I assume it's up in the air.
