Reason: Putting blue-ray player into the PS3 was to make sure more people would HDTV hoping more would Sony Brand HDTVs and selling Sony made movies on blue ray.

does anyone know how the revenue Sony makes off their TV's and Blue-Ray movies compared to the PS3

god im so late!!!

It's BLu-Ray, not Blue.

Also, the problem with that theory, is even though SONY makes amazing HDTV's, they aren't the only ones. So, someone may get a Panasonic Blu-Ray player with a Samsung HDTV, leaving Sony out of the picture.

Still, the PS3 is a great deal for those in the HDTV market.

If that is the case, then Sony need to rethink their plan. I have no plans to get a HDTV or start using the Blu Ray format yet.

I'm not even sure that's the case any more. I'm seeing Blu-Ray players going for $200 in Canada... So paying double for a PS3 really doesn't strike me as a steal unless you're a game enthusiast on top of it... Which, if you are, you might consider getting a $200 Blu Ray player and a 360 for the same cost as just the PS3, or a Blu Ray player and the Wii for $50 more. PS3 needs another price drop before I think you can really consider it a great deal for a Blu-Ray enthusiast again...

Wait, they put the Blu-ray there too win the format war? What a shocker.. I have said that like a million time when people argue putting a blu-ray player in the PS3 was dumb..

Sony earned money on the CD, they earned money on the DVD, now they earn money on the Blu-ray.. After all the formats are possibly the most important part of sony..

Except Samsung beats Sony when it comes to HDTV's and have been selling more. Oh yeah, and BluRay players are now cheaper then PS3's So yeah, Sony just failed this gen. They're done, better luck next gen.

Which is to make customers pay $160 to fix a problem on the PS3 which is their fault. *sniff*

Yeah, they're trotting along towards a very respectable third place or a very distant second place. Far from done.

That does not mean that they are done. There is almost no way the 360 is going to catch the Wii, either. Do we say its done as well?

Are sales the end all be all for us gamers? No. Sony is producing good content, just like the other two. Its surviving, just like the other two. Seriously, none of the systems are going to die. None are going away.

Deal with it.

It was serious. The Gamecube pulled Nintendo a hefty profit and released several of last gen's best games, and it was in precisely the situation I just described Sony as heading into this gen - and look at Nintendo now. What's more, I was actually a very happy GC owner last gen, so I can understand someone liking a system that on paper doesn't seem as stacked as the competition.

This aside, I don't personally have any use for what Sony is doing this gen and I frequently deride them on here... But I can actually easily understand someone quite enjoying their system, and realize that said system won't be the end of the Playstation brand.

Very true, and I respect that completely. Again, sorry for misinterpreting your post.
