Theres a microsoft store in a mall near my home, so i had a day of yesterday and nothing to do except grab Dead Rising 2. So i ranmbled on down there and waited my turn, and boy let me tell you, it wasnt great. First, I had to stand kind of far away feeling from the television. I'm 6 foot 6 inches, so i had to back up a bit for the body scan. They had kinect adventures in, set to the raft game thing. First, to make raft jump, you must jump. No cheating. your feet must leave the ground. so i jump, expecting my raft to also jump, and it did, except that my feet were allready back on the ground when it did, creating a pretty good feeling of disconnect. Also, to turn, you have to lean in the direction you want to move, and i mean LEAN. Because of the lag, it kind makes you over compensate so much you feel like your going to fall over. I walked away very unimpressed, and any inkling i had for the connect is very diminished.

I'm sure Kinect will be fun for 10-15 minutes sessions, but can you imagine playing 6 hours of leaning and jumping and clapping? Sounds like the arthritis rate will be going up in the next 12 months.

There was a bunch of people who already knew Kinect was going to be no more than smoke and mirrors since it was announced as the next gaming revolution but hype always get the best of fanboys.

Actually, I think that would decrease it.

i was hyped for kinect when it was first announced but now i feel this thing will severely disappoint when it launches. from lackluster games, features being removed,etc... im not feeling kinect. hopefully ms and developers bring some awesome games to it soon. as for now its a no buy for me.

Totally, and how do you play shooters with Kinect with no controllers. The Move and Wii both have controllers so you can get a sweet gun periferal.

Connect...disconnect. I see what you did there. :p

Seems to confirm early reports and gamers worst fears. Sigh. Oh well. MOVE was smarter to stick to the nun chuck wii formula.

Or a few hours of arms straight in th air racing, well not racing just looking silly while the game does it all... Fail.

So much for being way more advanced than the Eyetoy. The move and Wii are better, but that doesn't mean they are good.

While I might usually say this is better suited for a blog, I'm actually interested to hear what people's experience with Kinnect are. It just looks so unbelieveably unappealing to me ...

I'm kinda happy that there is such an underwhelming response so games can keep from being limited by those control schemes. IMO regular controllers allow a much better variety and deeper games in general, IMO the depth of DMC vs NMH is a good example.

This. Sony was smart to stick with "familiar territory". Sure the move is slightly more advanced than the Wii, but they are similar technologies. Kinect is seemingly going to tank heavily, at least with the core gaming crowd. It might sell decently this holiday to kids and stuff, because it's "different", but I dunno. It depends on how word of mouth goes.

Looks like Zero punctuations prediction on Kinect (at the time NATAL) in 2009 was true.

its not meant for a 6 hour play session...

if anything Guitar Hero play sessions would be worse for arthritus...

doctors are actually saying that exercise is not detrimental to your health ;)

Thats the problem with Kinect. Its just not that great with games... Which is what we here care about most. I can play a Move game or a Wii game very easily for long periods or time. You can even sit in some games if you set your PS Eye right and calibrate the Move. But I cant imagine playing Kinect for more than fifteen minutes. After that it wont be an entertainment. Plus the lag... No, Kinect should be released as a different device and not for games.

I find Zero Punctuation's perceptions about a lot of things right no matter what haters say. Including with this. :)

from what ive seen and played in river rush game the game is a fake motion controller game. this game does not move like you but simply reads 4 commands left right up down. it is like u are a human dpad go left it is like going left go right it is like going right and jump it will jump but all those commands are not imitating your movements (just like a dpad when u press x for example you jump but u jump way after u press x and remove your thumb from the controller. anyways ive played this game also i think it will flop big time.

arthritis and carpal tunnel syndrome are synonymous with playing bass and guitar same applies to guitar hero. But that can fall down to technique sometimes :P

Exercising within reason is healthy over exercising is bad just like everything it should be done in moderation :P

That particular game could be done with justthe PS Eye no problem.

Although I do feel Kinect is a unfinished technology, I wouldn't take that one game as a indication of what it can do.

The lesser of two evils perhaps, but still a path I do not wish to see gaming go down.
