I was able to attend CES 2008 through my College and an opportunity w/ a local newspaper agency division. I got a press pass to most of the big events, and could have attented all the days, but due to my schedule I was only able to go Sunday, Monday, and Today. My job was to scout the show floor, go to press conferences, and pretty much be a reporter (not full fledged, but write a little paragraph or two peice on the latest products shown at CES 08). It was fun...I've never been to the Las Vegas Convention Center before (but I've lived in Vegas for 11 years now...so it was an experience).

I spent most of time around IBM and Intel and nVidia getting the scoop on their latest and greatest...lots of stuff...that I may make a thread or blog about later...I did spent an hour or so in the video game entertainment section and actually got a chance to play Little Big Planet and boy was I excited :P

At first when I held the control I was like...I'm dreaming, this can't be real, as I moved the little brown guy around the animations were very smooth...I played around a bit getting used to the controls...which didn't take too long...and I was on my way to creating my own level. Its a lot harder than it looks (at first)...for the first couple of minutes I was having trouble getting the scale of the items right, and getting them to drop, but after a bit it was fun. I made a bridge rather quickly and had some fun running around...I also tried placing lots of items on the screen at once...and I did notice a bit of a slow down...nothing drastic (it'll probably be fixed in the full game)...but puttint too many objects at once causes a frame-rate drop to occur. The game is very fun....although they better create lots more stuff in the full version. The current selection of items they had was rather lacking imo. This game I have very high hopes for

Well I had a great time at CES 2008. I'll update my blog tomorrow, w/ pics and whatnot..going to sleep now...since its 1:19 am..and I just came back from a very long day at CES and then an afterparty...so stay tuned.

So what is the basic premise or goal of the game?

From what I've heard its all about just building a level that has realistic physics and watching stuff react to other stuff.... is that right?

The demo was pretty bland in a sense that it and not very revealing storywise. I was able to just mess around and build a level. Nothing else I can really comment on.

How accessible is the game? It appears that there is *heaps* to do, stuff to create and objects to manipulate so with all that going on is the game very easy to pick up and learn?

Just on a side note, in your sig what are the three people actually looking at?

It's quite like Garry's Mod in a way. You can use thousands of different items, objects and tools to create what you want. You can share them, customize your charatcer, interact with other people. It's pretty damn impressive, although maybe it's not the sort of game for me. But if you're a social gamer I recommend looking into it more.

Its a shame the demo I played was only SP...but it was still fun...I can't wait to see how for we can take it w/ 4 or more people.

How was Nvidia's and intels booth? Any indications of price drops by intel? Any word on the 9000 Series of vid card? D: I wanna know whether to hold out on my next pc :P. Thx for any info you give. BTW LBP will probably be huge and will probably have a sims sort of backing as in users creating objects and items for it.

you say it was like a "dream" but you dont justify statement at all

you basically say you had some difficult using the controls and getting used to making things

and just ran around and that was your fun

hmmm this reminds me of halo 3s forge

it isnt any thing great, level creators have been around for for a long time

You obviously have a jaded view of the game, but hey to each there own.

If you want real reason why this game is different than any other level editor, try to find a game that has the features this has, closest thing I can find is Gary's mod.

Cool..

but I thought the point of LBP was to create complex object using the basic objects that they provide. Like that video making a tree out of the letter Y. If you want a car, a house, a bridge, a cloud, I was under the impression that you don't just ask for it. You have create these complex objects yourself out of the basic objects.. I think when the full game is out, they will let you save these complex objects that you've newly created and store them for future use. Maybe even allow you to trade to give them to other LBP. Like if I create a plane. But you also create your own plane. And we trade the design plans. That would be cool, right?

In all of console history point me to another game that does the same thing as LBP. If you think it's dated. I'm not really a console guy but I can't tell of even a single one.

Its a side scroller at its heart, outdated 15 years ago. They just added in a level editor, whoop de do. Excite Bike is much more interesting than this (NES). Or how about Battle City (nes). You see the problem is, the core gameplay of Little Big Planet looks much to boring.

its more than a level editor, you can literally create almost anything you want. this isnt halo's lame forge item placer crap you can create anything. the enjoyment you get out of the game is dependant on your own creativity.

In all of console history point me to another game that does the same thing as LBP. If you think it's dated. I'm not really a console guy but I can't tell of even a single one.

Its a side scroller at its heart, outdated 15 years ago. They just added in a level editor, whoop de do.

its more than a level editor, you can literally create almost anything you want. this isnt halo's lame forge item placer crap you can create anything. the enjoyment you get out of the game is dependant on your own creativity.

There are limits, as a matter of fact you cant seem to do much of anything in Little Big Planet.

obviously you haven't seen much of the game or know little about it.

i dont get where all the hype for this game comes from...

you say it was like a "dream" but you dont justify statement at all

you basically say you had some difficult using the controls and getting used to making things

and just ran around and that was your fun

hmmm this reminds me of halo 3s forge

it isnt any thing great, level creators have been around for for a long time

You obviously have a jaded view of the game, but hey to each there own.

If you want real reason why this game is different than any other level editor, try to find a game that has the features this has, closest thing I can find is Gary's mod.

What features? Have you ever heard of Unreal Tournament? That is way more interesting than LBP.

Reason why devs never try anything innovative in the gaming world. People never like to try new things. Example in this quote.

You missed the point, what new things? UT3 is much more customizable than LBP, and at its core LBP is an outdated game. So please explain what you are talking about?

Ive watched every trailer, all I see is side scrolling that all looks pretty much the same. It was painful watching some of the trailers, I watched them anyway hoping it would get better. Ive read about it, still dont get how it will be any fun. It just seems so limited and the gameplay itself is a complete yawn. Show me even a section of gameplay that is fun, even 30 seconds.

30 seconds of fun? Try creating your own objects, levels, new designs, puzzles...seriously I just don't think your the type of person who likes this game.

There will always be someone who hates X game for X reason, and will never be convinced otherwise.

LBP sounds like it blows so far, might be fun for a hour or so.TerroRizing

Your not a gamer are you. Or you have zero imagination. This is a game you could spend hundreds of hours playing and thousands of hours creating. Games like this have nearly infinite replayability.

Trust me it's wasted time typing anything trying to convince him otherwise, he thinks LBP is a generic side scroller that Exite bike riengs supreeme over.
