Doesn't microsoft's press conference make you think about ninty's conference last year?

Rather than announcing a bunch of new games for the 360, they focused on showing how the console can appeal to "every one." They showed very casual games like Lips and You're In The Movies. Yes, they showed hotly anticipated games like Gears, RE5 and made a huge announcement about FFXIII, but they could have taken this as a great opportunity to show even more games comming up in the future.

It makes me think of Nintendo's last year, when they only revealed Wiifit, Mario Kart Wii and then just talked about how the system appeals to every one.

I dunno, im a huge portal fan and im excited about fable, gears, fallout, GTADLC, rockband 2 and now FF. Im glad they focused on this year instead of announcing games a year or more away. And the xboxlive makeover looks amazing.

Yea, I'm just as disappointed. This felt worse than Nintendo's from last year definately.

No... I haven't enjoyed a Final Fantasy game since IX, and I don't even own a PS3. I'm completely indifferent.

Gaming is evolving in a sense. As more and more people come in, the money that a company can make directly increases, so companies compete more for the dollars of the consumer. MS and Sony are creating mass media machines that offer a ton of different services outside of gaming. To the casual person that doesnt play games as much as most of us, features that MS discussed today would (or should) be rather appealing.

The problem would come when a system became an multimedia entertainment machine first and a video game machine second.

Since E3 got downscaled MS have spent more time focusing on TGS and X(08) that is when they normally drop any big new games, E3 is more numbers groundwork on the console, and bulding flesh to the bones of game announcements! Personally i think all the new Live features Sound Great (Except Avatars lol) and you can't really blame companies for trying to broaden their market and steal some of the delicious pie nintendo are curently dining out on with wii ! And The FF thing is big news too!

We know about most of their upcoming games already, and what we don't are 3rd parties which will be covered in other shows.

They showed what changes are coming to the service, showed a few great games, and made me excited about XBLA again.

And Live Party is a feature I have been waiting for since November 2005.

I know everyone copies from everyone, so please dont bother starting to point out what Sony and Nintedo have "stolen" from another company in the past... but am I the only one feeling that this conference was a big parade of "steal"?

Miis, singstar, eyetoy...

Just so much at once was kinda obvious and painful to watch.

Edit: even Buzz which now is TV and movie themed.. they even took that theme to Scene it. Oh man..

see the problem with the conference is that they clearly shows us that they are going after Nintendo and the casual market, which is a HUGE misstake. Noir Microsoft or Sony will be able to retake Nintendo on that. They should focus completely on gaining even a bigger momentum over the PS3. Now with the Mega ...Over the top. Eye popping FFXIII on their ship the chances on taking over Japan went trought the roof. If they push that, manage to score let's say Kingdom Hearts or Dragon Quest they could make all the old Sony fanboys to jump ships.

Which in term would be devastating to Sony because they would have no chance to make PS3 turn a profit before the next Xbox launches.

Overall it was a rather poor conference. Gears 2 ,FF13, and Banjo certainly owned the show.

RE5 looks absolutely disappointing. Everything is exactly the same as RE4 aside from characters, graphics, and the setting. The AI had no new tricks, there were few gameplay improvements... my hype for RE5 was shot down significantly.

Gears 2 really impressed me though.

Not even new IPs necessarily, just some new games would be nice. We already knew about the three games demo'd, in fact we knew a lot, and we'd seen footage already. New Ips, or new entries in existing franchises, either would have been nice.

That's not what the conferrence is for. Don't forget the show still hasn't started. There are usually surprises at the actuall event. One big surprise (FF XIII), business partnerships (NBC & Netflix) and release dates are all I suspected. Exclusive content for Fallout 3 was pretty hot as well. Overall, they set the tone very well.

I completely agree. It's really sad that even the character animations are the same as RE4 when you shootsomeone. It's kind of pathetic.

We do need to keep in mind E3 builds are never final, so maybe they will improve on it. Capcom is very talented afterall.

I wouldn't say there was nothing to get excited about (geometry wars II and FFXIII) but they should have done more than give the nintendo speech about how they appeal to every one

Why? Why shouldn't they try to appeal to more people? It's within their right and ability. There are more people than just you or I. You can't just dismiss it completely because they didn't shower your spoiled butt with news that would only appeal to you. Gamers are varied, gamers have different tastes so it's a little too easy and too soon to just dismiss them because most of what was announced didn't appeal to you in particular.

As it stands, the 360 is in a comfortable place and all they really need to do is clean house and build a firm foundtation in which to counter competition. Whether that's taking away "exsclusives" (GTA IV, FFXIII, Star Ocean, etc) or meeting and beating the functionality of the competition (the avatars, eight person chat, the new interface, etc). Innovation and flashy new things aren't the only means in which to improve or attract. Evolution is a perfectly legitimate, reasonable, and welcome method such as bringing the avatars to the 360. There is nothing wrong with that, it's just the nature of the game and the direction the industry is steering. Just like achievements to trophies and whatever else may come along or motion sensing.

So, yeah, I'd say these are pretty big and pretty good announcements.

Whether or not it appeals to any other is a whole other matter, of course, but for me I am excited.

There's nothing wrong with appealing to more people. But they focused WAY too much on the casual market. They could have made a few hardcore announcements aswell

For me as a PS3 owner only thing I found appealing was the onslaught of movies especially with Netflix(not sure if HD though) since I already have a membership to get blurays to watch on my ps3. But then I look at my media tower and well I hope they bring out a new color ps3 cause that white one just doesn't do it for me quite like how my PS3 just blends in with the rest of my tower. So I don't think the casuals are going to go out and buy something that looks like the 360 to primarly watch movies and then some arcade games and such. So a change in design would really help that along. I know that sounds weird but I really don't know where I would put a 360 unless I put it behind my plasma but then the heat from the plasma would kill it lol.

Other than that though it was a big parade of what MS could steal next or buy next lol. Avatars? PS Home anyone? New dashboard? PS3 Xmb anyone? and on and on.

But the SE news was huge for MS and I hope Sony comes up big tommorrow to counter it.

what a lame conference, the only thing that really surprised me was FF13 comming to the 360 but apart of that nothing else convince me of buying a 360, now let's wait for the other 2 conferences, I hope Ninty and Sony show some great stuff.

(I LOL'D at the avatars concept, Miis everyone? It seems that MS will follow the Ninty way and most probably fall at the try)

I doubt it. Miis hardly do anything as of now. The lack of Nintendo's online ability makes them somewhat useless. Microsoft will actually allow you to do stuff with them over Live. The same will probably be with Home, only I have a feeling the Avatars will have a bit more to do from the beginning.

Yes. This years MS E3 press conference reminded me about Nintendy's last year, but the MS E3 press conference was more of a merger between Sony's and Nintendo's. It always has been. They did focous on the Hardcore fanbase with RE5, Fallout 3, Gears of War, like Sony, but also all this casual stuff like Nintendo's Mii's and Wii fit. The Xbox 360 has always served the most broadest demographic. You got stuff like Gears of War, Orange Box, Halo, Mass Effect, serving a much more hardercore contingant, but also stuff like UNO and other live arcade stuff too. The good thing about this though was that Microsoft is bringing the Mii concept to an area thats much more social than that of Nintendo's or even Sony. Watching movies together, 8 way chat stuff like that is stuff that the Japanese dont really get. The Mii's seem useless in Nintendo's case and Home has yet to have a specific direction. The avatars here are more directed and more purposeful than that of Nintendo's or Sony's.

In the end i thought the press conference was a mixed bag. Casual stuff, hardcore stuff, but that FF13 anouncment at the end really made it worth watching.

you need to understand that MS want to expand the fanbase of the 360. They want too sell more consoles , sure they could focus on the HARDCORE games more but thats not what they need. MS allready got the HARDCORE gamers they need to reach the others , and the way they did their conference is the way too do it.

Yeah it reminded of the NINTENDO conferance but what console is number 1 right now , its nintendo so I wouldnt say its a bad thing....

you need to understand that MS want to expand the fanbase of the 360.

But it is very dumb from MS to try the Ninty way because Nintendo owns it totally, the PSP tried to rival the DS but look at them now. MS should stick with the hardcore base because if they try to compete against Nintendo in the casual market MS will fail

Need i remind you that Microsoft has been the holders of the most dominant casual electronic game of all time?

Solitare and Minesweeper.

They have already won, they just got no money off of it. Infact it lost money because it created a crash. Take that Nintendo!

[QUOTE="toriko92"]It was even worse. I want an Xbox 360 less after watching that conference.famicommander

I just made a thread about this 5-10 minutes ago, o well.

Yea, I'm just as disappointed. This felt worse than Nintendo's from last year definately.

Wow, the "Nintendo Speech" is becoming stuff of legend. (Not the good kind)

If you ask me Microsoft impressed the hell out of me, they made me very happy that I chose a 360 over a PS3.

They even got some hermits talking about buying a 360..

Yes, they made me extremely satisfied with my choice, and I believe that had I gone with either PS3 or Wii I would be bored by now.

Need I remind you that Nintendo has been the holders of the videogame industry for around 20 years? MS's only achievement in this industry has been the online service, Nintendo among with sony have total control over the industry, they are the true leaders while MS just copies all the good points of both of them. So sad for such an important company as Microsoft
