EDIT: Wow, nobody agrees.....I knew this was too soon. Like all revolutionary ideas, people tend to be skeptical and scared.

Ok, this subject is extremely touchy, ill say this as simple as possible. *****Lets focus on what makes us similar and NOT what makes us different*****

1. This dream may be fulfilled when the next Xbox is released, NOT now

Perhaps the next Xbox will be powerful enough to stand toe-to-toe with the average gaming PC (for a while at least). I also expect MS to make their next XBox to be very compatible with the PC, allowing devs do make PC/362 games easily.

2. We both for the most part depend on MS

Yes you can use mac or linux but MOST games require you to have Windows XP or Vista. Lems need a 360. We both need MS and in a way, we are similar.

3. Games for WIndows and Games for WIndows LIVE

I personally want PC LIVE to be **free** so herms can warm up to the idea better. Its just that ******the idea of cross platform games like Shadowrun, Universe at War, and Lost Planet Colonies is such a cool new idea of bringing two mediums together.****** MS will still try to further this and will make much progress by the time the next Xbox comes out. Next gen, I expect a LOT more cross platform multiplayer games. ****But again, now is too soon.****

Another example is the Games for Windows branding. Every E3 MS announces more devs signing on. Need Crysis? Well your supporting the Games for Windows brand in doing so. The # of devs signing on will grow by next gen. Basically we both pay money to play games that gives revenue to MS.

4. PC/360 games

How come only this combo happens so often? Whats with the lack of Wii/PC or PS3/PC games? It's because of MS. MS makes the PC games go multiplat to 360 only. ******Yes this involves downgrading the PC version to allow for the creation of the 360 version******, but at least this brings us together and MORE IMPORTANTLY, **expand the userbase to enjoy these games**.

5. This is a great way to stop the hate, and focus on our similar tastes, love for the game, and not on what makes us different.

This would help reduce fanboy hate. AT least we can ban together against other fanboys.

**My POINT**: this is WAY to soon. Hermits and lems would rather focus on what makes us different rather then what makes us the same. I hope that by next gen, MS will unite us together by making the Xbox 362 (clever huh) more compatible with the PC. They are all ready setting the pieces into play now with Games for Windows and PC LIVE (again, I hope they make it free for you guys).

If ur all high and mighty and want to flame, i understand. after all this unity is far from happening right now. Peace

PC gamers don't depend on MS. If we did we would be getting milked for maps and online, and by now we would probably have to pay other people to download their mods. *shivers*

That sentence made me lol, you want to reduce fanboy hate by uniting lems and hermits to bash on other fanboys ?

Anyways, why would we "unite" with lems. As a PC gamer i hate M$ anyways, and ps3 is a way better console to go with my PC.

PC + PS3 = best of both world.

No you really seem to not get it. Windows is only in the lead for one reason and one reason only. It supports all the games. If it didn't, it would'nt be in the lead. Windows needs us gamers to stay in the lead, not us gamers needing windows.

erm no. if anything im a PC gamer first and foremost. and we lost a good developer (yes MS were a good PC developer in their day) to the 360. cromson skies has lost alot of its class and alot of other PC games that MS made like starlancer and freelancer have been dumped in terms of future development. MS are also making deals and enticing other devs who used to be PC focused to go multiplat.

and whats the PC getting in return? games developed on consoles, for consoles, with a console mentality. whats more both the 360 and PC are being undermined since alot of PC only games are moving to 360 and vice versa.....its not helping either side. PC has also "inspired" MS to allow patching and downloadable content (though they didnt remember the free stuff like the PC gets) which also does not help consoles in the slightest (and really...bug fixing patches are inexcusable on a console)

an alliance between PC and 360 gamers in system wars? u gotta be kidding me. out of all the consoles, its the 360 that i would like to see cough and die the most...maybe then we could get some of our devs back and have MS focusing on PC again, instead of the rubbish gestures like windows live and games for windows and the occasional crap port that they throw our way. frankly MS can take those gestures and they can shove em.....we want our halo (and i dont mean literally...i mean a huge game backed by a massive marketing campaign to put the PC in the limelight a bit....a game that makes ppl just go "wow.....right i need a gaming PC").

just like theres a conflict of interest at MS about this, theres is a big conflict of interest between PC and 360 gamers. as long as the 360 and the PCs main gaming platform are managed and supported by the same company....there will always be a conflict of interest.

oh they did....MS used to have quite a few companies under their wing. im not sure whats happened to em now mind. a few that i can mention that were developed and published by MS are starlancer, freelancer, the AOE series, crimson skies and MS golf (very old). they also helped fund other games like dungeon siege (which they have now stopped supporting). they also had a space based MMO a long time ago (a bit like eve...though it never took off) and of course there were the ascherons call MMOs. alot fo them were developed by teams that were completly owened by MS (i dont think GPG were though..the DS devs).

alot of ppl accuse MS of only being a publisher, but they have funded alot of projects and had quite a few devs back in their day. made some great games too and were very well respected. i remember some great times with the likes of AOE and freelancer. its all gone downhill since then though...there games output (on PC at least) has been reduced to 0 pretty much. freelancer was the last great game they made on PC.

Though I'm may not agree with TC directly, but you need Windows to enjoy those games. In essense, the PC gaming industry is depending on MSFT, can't say the same for the console gaming portion.

Pro_wrestler

The hell it is. PC gamers use Windows because it has the best game support, and Windows has the best game support because everybody already has it.

If Microsoft just magically dissapeared one day and took Windows with it, then people would just use another operating system, and publishers and developers would shift their support to whatever OS has the most users.

Besides, MS has no say over what content goes through Windows and they don't make a profit off games unless they publish them. That doesn't sound like dependence to me.

Sure, I may use Windows for my OS, but the only reason is because we need it to play the damn games. Seriously, we don't depend on MS. If I wanted, I wouldn't use windows and get certain hacked versions of games to play on Linux instead. MS is greedy. That's the bottom line. Games for Windows live needs to discontinue itself. We have had free online gaming since the beginning, with free maps and mods. Now, Infinity Ward may make us pay for maps. I'm sure as hell not paying. PC gaming can change for the better, not worse. If we're offered the same as we have, maybe worse, but have to pay for it, do you think 90% of PC gamers will buy it? No.

Greedy companies have no place in the PC Gaming World. PC gamers unite, we defend ourselves.

I didn't say they profited from gaming and you hit the nail on te head with your second sentence. Without Windows, what else is there.

It took them 20 years to establish themselves from an OS standpoint, you make it seem as though everyone will just shift to some relatively unknown, inferior OS like Ubuntu in a matter of days. It's not just Windows..but all their developement APIs and enviorments which are used to create software and drivers for probably every electronic out there.

My point is that PC gaming doesn't need microsoft to survive, and that if the industry had to offer support for another OS, or another OS was popular enough that support would be economically viable, they would do it.

If Microsoft died, they would take Xbox with them, but they couldn't take the PC. Its not that kind of dependence.

But it's already out there, MS can't do much about it right now. And when they try to, gamers can always simply choose to ignore MS. Look at what's happening now. From gaming perspective dx10, Vista, GFWLive are all huge failures. Gamers just stick to XP.

Even the "games for windows" branding tuurned out to be a failure, MS wanted to use it as a way to make games more Vista/Live centric and standarized, while it ended up as merely a boxing brand and one that's still not truly widespread.
