I have not heard of any excitement whatsoever towards the Wii U.

Are you excited for it? Im already so devoted to my 360/PS3 i have zero interest in picking up a system thats going to be competing with them so late into the current generation (because lets face it, its a current gen system). I feel like this is the way most people feel about it. Yeah, its an exciting prospect to have an HD Zelda game, but from what it seems like theres going to be a lot of games released across all 3 platforms, and at this point, what would be the incentive to pick the Wii U version? Most gamers are already set with what they have. I dont have a problem with the concept of the Wii U, in fact, i think its a great idea. The timing is what i find to be suspect. They certainly could have waited for the next generation, because at this point the Wii U will just be picking up steam when the 360 and PS3 are moving onto their next installments, then the Wii U wont be able to keep up! Im certain 99% of you will disagree with me, but i was curious to get opinions on this due to the extreme disinterest im seeing about the Wii U.

Yeah but I usually keep it to myself. I hope they make a lot of tactical shooters on it, like old-school Rainbow Six with some of Vegas' squad controls.

I'm impartial at this point, since I have no idea what games will be on it.

There isn't enough information for people to really get excited about. There are only rumors about the system's power, we don't know the launch titles, and we only got to see a handful of tech demos at E3. I'm interested, anyway. I mostly get Nintendo platforms for the first party titles. However, I'll likely use it for 3rd party games, as well. I gave up on Microsoft after going through 7 360 systems, and I'm just not interested in the PS3.

We need some exclusives before we can really start hyping it. Ghost Recon Online and that Ubisoft FPS isn't enough.

The timing is fine refer to my post. It's the same life cycle as other consoles. I think you're just upset that the Wiiu will have a two year headstart on your favorite console.

It may have a headstart, but the question is will it keep up once the other systems are released? Speculation, i know, but i find it hard to believe it will be that far ahead of what 360 and PS3 are offering now. Does that appease your smugness?

i have absolutely no interest in getting the wii-u at this time based on what ive been hearing....its potential....the multiplat games im already playing and also which will be battling with the PS3 and 360 (current gen), im still not sold on the controller. just because theres a screen on it doesnt make it the next revolution. so far theres absolutely NOTHING as far as reasons to buy it except to play the next inevitable mario, or zelda, or metroid, kirby, mario kart.....etc, in HD. no thanks. if im going to get it, itll be years later on down the road and itll definatly be used.

I'm excited for it. Mostly because of Pikmin 3 and the Smash bros game. Though I'm sure the new Smash Bros game will be as disappointing as Brawl was.

It's because they showed no games, showed no cgi trailers, and made no promises about bending the space-time continuum. It was the most boring console reveal in recent memory, but the excitement should build by next E3, when Nintendo has to show the goods.

Yes, because developers will have developed for the Wiiu for at least a year. They will know how to utilize it's full power but they still have to break in the new consoles.
Ever notice how early 360 games look like crap compared to the later ones?

The timing is odd. The Wii U is launching late into the 360/PS3 lifecycle. When the competitor next gen consoles launch, the core crowd could potentially flock to those new systems. Who knows. If only we had a crystal ball...

KBFloYd

Really?... The wii hype train was like the system was going to be the second coming. There were so many Nintendo fanboys on here back around the launch it was crazy. Everyone was excited for the Wii because the concept was so new and the possibilities seemed endless. But it didn't really turn out like everyone thought it was going to and most of the best Wii games make little to no use of the motion features.

Go on youtube and just look at what the e3 06 line was just for people to play the Wii.. It was the craziest thing I've ever seen it was like an 8 hour wait just to play the demos where there were only like 10 people at sony's both. And I think he just said people will probably disagree with him because thats normally how people are on this forum, almost no matter what anyone says a lot of people just like to jump in and say UHHH NO SHUT UP YOUR WRONG......

Anyhow I get what you're saying, no one is really hyped because

A)we really have no idea what the specs are or how big of a jump from this gen it is or isn't.

B)No real idea when it is coming out

C)Most importantly NO GAMES. The selling point of the console isn't going to be the multiplats and for a Nintendo console it never is, I just think they did that to show at least for now they are making stronger relationships with third parties. The hook of the system will be the exclusives but I guess for now none of that was ready to actually show off. And even if the PS4 and 720 come out a year or two later and are big improvements over the WiiU I don't think it will matter much due to resolution. The biggest different between the Wii and 360 and PS3 and why it was pretty much impossible to go back and make multiplats without doing a lot of work (and most importantly why Wii games looked so awful on HDTVs) was the resolution gap. The next gen systems aren't going to go higher than 1080p which the WiiU is, so they will at the very least be level on those merits..

So if Nintendo is able to release this thing, and it will have superior mutliplats of the current gen games for a year or two, and then have inferior ones after that all while having Nintendo exclusives along with them I think that will be just fine. No one seems excited because nothing seems confirmed and nothing seems final. Until we get some actual software, see the next zelda actually running on the system and see if the online component is any better than what we have now then no one will be

Because I mean who knows, maybe the online will be better, and that plus the controller plus better harderware will encourage you to get the multiplats on the WiiU but until we get more info there isn't really anything more we can say.

He's talking about the timing because the hardware from what we have seen so far might not be that far above the 360 and ps3.. And if the next microsoft and sony systems release not to long after, nintendo is going to be in the hole with the multiplats again because it might be the wii all over again where developers skip it for the better tech. systems.

I see what hes saying but the gap no matter what won't be as big as it was between the Wii and Ps3 and 360 just due to the resolution alone. So until we hear more about the WiiU what the actual specs are and what the PS4 and 720 we can't jump to conclusions

which lets face it we have no idea if those will be a massive step up either, Nintendo proved this generation you don't need to do that to come in first so I think it is premature to just assume that they are going to go all out and make these super powerful systems. They might just make their own gimmicky motion console as well.

I don't have a source on this handy... if you want to look it up fine. I recall some developer claiming the Wiiu is 1.5 times more powerful than a PS3 and 360 combined. But that doesn't matter. Consoles with inferior hardware have always sold more, see the PS2 and Wii.

I agree that when it comes down to it it's about the games, but I want to still say that you missed the point about the console; so far it's all about the controller and concepts of potential gameplay, this is what is getting me excited. Actually, it is a big part of the games because it directly impacts gameplay.

You didn't mention it at all, is it that forgettable? Maybe your lack of interest towards the new controller is why you aren't interested in the console itself?

masterdante

Even at the most standard level of rumors regarding the hardware of the Wii U, it's already 3-4 times more powerful than current consoles (360/ps3). Both the 360 and PS3 is using old and dusted hardware from 2005, Nintendo are possibly using a R700 chipset and a quad core cpu. That already trumps the current consoles in every way imaginable. So please tell me, how is it a current gen system when it already ***** on the 360/PS3 even with the current rumors?.

Kinda hyped. Need to see what the online structure is like and the SPECS.

If it has decent specs atleast= to ps3/360.

I'll be happy.

Wii 480i garbage made me sick when they announced those specs.

Likely cause that which we do know isn't good news specially the online portion about how they will pretty much ignore it and let 3rd party handle it.

Other then that we dont know much.

Sorry but Wii is severely hated only by SW dwellers. After all, fanboys dwell in this board. No sane person would "hate" a piece of electronics/technology unless he/she is a fanboy.

It is next gen until the next consoles from Microsoft and Sony come out (assuming they will be leaps and bounds more powerful). But calling it a current gen console when the Wii U is more capable of producing things the current consoles cant is rediculous and ignorant.

quote from Gearbox developer "We've got the [Aliens: Colonial Marines] engine running on the Wii U, and as far as the console goes, you're going to see textures at a resolution that you haven't seen on [the current] generation,"

This is just a small sample of what you might expect from current ports to the Wii U, but it already looks like it outperforms the current consoles in every way imaginable, so obviously the Wii U is not current gen. And when dedicated games get built for the Wii U, it will be even better.... Your wrong and Masterdante is wrong,,,,,get over it.

[QUOTE="Crystal-Rush"]Even at the most standard level of rumors regarding the hardware of the Wii U, it's already 3-4 times more powerful than current consoles (360/ps3).

Crystal-Rush

He's right, it is a current gen system. Along with the 3DS, the Vita, the PS4 and the Xbox 3. When the 3DS launched, the eighth generation officially began.

You didn't understand my post at all, did you?

yea, you say you hear no one is excited...yet you say many will disagree with your wiiU bashing...contradict much?

was anyone excited for wii when it was announced? i wasnt.

Are you serious? It was the most hyped console in history.

This is a joke right? Everyone bashed Wii from the first moment. PS3 is the most hyped console this generation and also the biggest flop. Ontopic: I'm excited but I need to see and know more about Wii U before jumping on it in hapiness.

I think you are mistaken. It was the most hated console in history. Wii U seems to be following that legacy when barely any details are confirmed and/or revealed.

I know very well its the most hated console in history and IMO it deserves it, but it launched with the biggest hype and attention of any other console. Remember people running through the PS3 booth at E3 to play the Wii for 20 minutes? They were literally running.

Nope i understood you correctly. Your meaning of current gen is determined by what hardware is competing in the current cycle of hardware. In the case of the Wii U, it will be releasing in the midst of the 3DS, Vita, PS3 and 360 so you classify it as current gen. But in terms of hardware and performance, the Wii U will be competing both current gen and next gen (only due to the timing of it's release). But some may argue that the Wii U will start off the next gen. Your reasoning could be applied to both the PS4 and next xbox simply due to the fact that they will both be competing with current hardware (both PS3/360) and handhelds. But that's not what Masterdante really meant. He simply meant it in a hardware performance kind of way, like most people do when comparing current gen to next gen.

You obviously never payed attention at the time.

  • It was the major focus of attention immediately before and during launch
  • We were constantly talking about it in the Revolution forum 2 years before it even came out, all we knew was its codename
  • Everyone was reading patents to find out as much as possible
  • Rumours about giant touchscreens and virtual reality were rife, remember Nintendo On? I doubt it
  • Wii U doesn't even have its own forum and we know a hell of a lot more about it than we did about the Rev
  • Some people camped out for over a week to get their Wii
  • The media ran through the PS3 booth and from all around at E3 to get to the Wii, video, another
  • 2000 people lined up at Toys R Us when it opened, nobody could get one for many months without making a very early pre-order like I did

I was sniffing around the Revolution/Wii development like a search and rescue dog, I know what I'm talking about.

No, you obviously didn't understand him. The current gen startet with the 3DS. Therefore PS3 and 360 are already last gen while Vita and Wii U will also be current gen. By the way, of course I'm excited for it. Any real gamer should be excited when a new system arrives.
