I havent played a better looking game than MGS4 yet...

mgs4 is incredible,i absolutely love the way the story advances and the gameplay.

but gears of war looks 3 times better, sorry.

I think MGS4 is inconsistant in the level of graphics, and people judge it on the details of ACT1, which is one of the worst looking areas of the game.

In some Parts Gears, Uncharted and COD4 look better in my opinion, however ACT 4 of MGS4 in parts looks quality, especially outside, ACT5 looks amazing, and the Boss fight at the end is the best looking thing i have ever seen on a console.

Its really hard to call, because most people are going to say it isnt that great, and if your thinking about certain areas in the game i would agree, but once i finished the game my opinion changed.

Anybody who has cleared MGS4 will know what im talking about here, but i cant wait for God Of War 3 now, seeing what the PS3 hardware can do with a 1 vs 1 battle.

The most important thing to note about the graphics too is that all of the cut scenes are done in real time and are not pre-rendered cg scenes which I thought was just incredible. I mean you can drive around the MKII when the mission briefings are going on so a good chunk of these cut scenes are playable. On top of that, there are some instances when the graphics are so photorealistic you could get fooled into thinking you are watching a movie. Truly astonishing.

The best looking act was by far 5 and then 2 and then 1. Act 4 was definately the worst graphically, ouside it looked good but the indoor environments were meh. Act 3 looked really really good too, prolly at the same level as 2 or 1.

The game is absolutely beautiful. I have played a lot of games and few games come close to MGS. This doesnt include Crysis or Unchartered because I have never played them and cant judge them based on vids because games always look better on tv. Just wanted to point that out. I dont know about Gears of War 2 but Gears of war 1 looks no where even in the same league as MGS4.

Yeah, I thought Act 2 looked bad in places, Kind of like a higher res MGS3, ACT3 was just slightly better standards, but the amazing chase cheered me up, ACT 4 did look bad indoors because of the textures, but outside was a different matter.

ACT 5 overall probably did look the best, indoors and outdoors.

MGS4 Cutscenes were mindblowing at times, as was the ending Boss battle, im torn now between which is my favourite, MGS3 or MGS4, MGS3 stands alone much better i think, i dont think somebody new to MGS would enjoy 4, its totally a fan service, but if you have played and enjoyed all the MGS series MGS4 really is something else.

I agree mostly with what you guys say but that goes for all games. There are always some areas that look much better then others. Hell look at the battleship level in Crysis it looks no where near as impressive as the jungle. I personally though Act2 was the most impressive. The forest scenes looked great. Act 4 and 5 also looked awesome and the boss fight looked like you were controlling a high quality CGI cutscene.

I disagree when you say most people wont think it looks good though. The fact is this is SW no matter what game it is it will come over harsh criticisim from other fanboy factions. Fact is on the (console graphic king survey) MGS4 won with about 50% of the vote among 5 other games. So even most of SW thinks its the best looking console game not to mention all the professional reviews have given it a 10 in visuals are really close .
