I Honestly Dont See Whats so Amazing about SMG, Honestly

So today i was either going to buy Asassins Creed of Bioshock for my 360 when i remembered that my little sister has a Wii, and Super Mario galaxy got GOTY basically everywhere....so i decided to get SMG instead.

Honestly, every little planet is basically the same, you have two whole options to kill things.....jump on em or spin!!!! I Mean yeah its fun for a few mins but come on, why is this game getting GOTY everywhere? its nowhere near amazing or mindblwing, very overrated.

oh, and the whole story is just plain silly....princess peach gets captured, and some magic comet lady will help you find her after you get all the big stars back? lol give me a break.

I just want fun and intutive gameplay IMO.

And that is why SMG won GOTY it was the most fun.

not just random killing and violence most pre-teen boys cherish.

Hmmm.... I'm not getting that vibe from the game. I've got 26 stars, and it has been the most fun I have ever had getting 26 stars in a game before. It deserves every praise it receives. It really is the best game this year.

the game is more then 20 hours long.. How can you have completed it when obviously owning it for less then 15 hours?

I have 26 stars and the game is a chore. I only play so I can do something fun like ray surfing or running on the ball. Otherwise it's like, "oh boy...Battle Rock Galaxy..." *jump across 3 platforms, dodge some bombs, grab star*.

If they didn't toss stars out like candy the game would be more interesting. It's too easy.

it's very innovative but it's just not challenging like Mario 64. I'm going to have like 100 extra lives soon...

You can shoot. Grenade. Melee. Run someone over. Drop a fusion core on someones head. Hell you can drop a rock on someones head.

Mario won because thats what the big wigs at GS wanted. Remenber the Wii has the biggest user base and GS likes them hits.

SMG wipes the floor with 2D marios. I was raised on 2D Marios, and even I recognize that they have been outdone!

I don't see whats so Amazing about Super Mario Galaxy either. I played the game and in my opinion it didn't deserve a 9.5. It deserved an 8.5. Don't get me wrong, SMG is a great game but its overhyped.

Well your opinion is a minority. Gamespot 9.5, IGN 9.7 and overall on Gamerankings 9.7 says otherwise. These are 3 of the bestsites that are looked to for game scores, and when all of them give a game a good score there's not much to say.

I was kinda being sarcastic, I mean how much do you expect in the killing department from a platformer? It's Mario, he doesn't have a sword or a gun >_> Plus, Mario games are more about the puzzles and challenges. Shooters have different ways of killing because that's what they're designed for.

The first couple of levels dont really pull you in but if you keep playing its probably one of the best games you'll ever play. Though it is pretty easy, and the under water camera can be a pain in the ass. Those are my only complaints.

I wasnt a fan either. So I agree with you.

I picked up about 33 stars and I still don't get the hype... It's a great game from a design standpoint but I'm just not "feeling it" like with past Mario games.. Maybe I've simply outgrown the series.. :? :( Anyway, I can still see how fans of the series would enjoy the hell out of it.. But it was basically the only salvation for the wii in my book. I'll stick with the X360 (and eventually the PS3) this gen.. OhSnapitz

Same here. I liked Mario back in the day but I've really outgrown the series. I'll do like you and stick with the XBox 360 and my PS3. Thats enough for me.

Why would I Finish something I'm not into? :| I believe that I've seen more than enough to make a sound judgement.

SMG is pretty darn fun no matter which way people try to bend it.

Oh and if you go back to buy one of those two games please buy Bioshock. Assassins Creed will make you physically ill with the hope that it gets better, when in fact, it doesnt.

Dunno but when I had around 30 starsit started to get a bit boring. However, knowing Mario games I knew it was going to get way better and more challenging, and it did. I just think it's more smart to judge a game after you've finished it, or atleast a majority of it.

what's with all these 12 year olds claiming to have "outgrown" mario?

Fair enough it's a pretty kiddy game but it's still the pinnacle of 3D platforming and by far the best game of the year. I'm sure these little kids would be singing a different tune if there was blood, guts and sanitised swearing in the game
