be realistic, everywhere the 8800GTX is having trouble running this game maxed out.

A 8800 GT can run it at very high roughly (on dx9) and its a great deal cheaper then the GTS.. Also one thing nice about the PC is tweak guides and patchs.. For all we know new drivers, patchs, and tweaks could make the performance hit the roof... We just don't know yet.

Well I have a C2Q 6700, GF8800Ultra 768MB, 4GB of synced RAM (Corsair) and if I put everything to maximum, it's unplayable, or it becomes unplayable once you try to shoot. So yeah, the current gen cards are struggling pretty much, and there is no way a GT can play this game smooth on high, maybe on 320x240 :).

Well the RAM is not the uber fastest there is, as I don't need it, it still cost 550EUR for the 4x 1Gb DD2 Dominator sticks, but it should do the work decently. However the problem isn't the RAM, I just say maybe you could squize a few more FPS by having some Mushkin Redline or something similar but then one RAM stick of 1GB would cost pretty much around 200EUR.

It's indeed the Graphics card. It's the stock OC version of MSI, guess some eVGA/XFx might again squize few more frames out, but I clearly don't see Crysis playable on 1600x1200 on maximum on todays cards. AMD ATI has even a lower chance of reaching this due to my past experiences with their cards, maybe totaly new models of both nVIDIA (9xxx or what they will call them) and AMD ATI might bring more fluidness to the game, certainly not this game.

Only option is SLI/Crossfire, and even that I doubt would reach my desireable framrate of 60-80FPS, on maximum settings that is.
