PS: can't wait for other games on PS3, PC to talk about what games they have coming in two years that now mimic this games combat/RPG approach and call it something special.
It's an action RPG. It definitely plays like a shooter in the combat sequences (with action sorta similar to Gears of War in that you take cover and stuff like that) but the dialogue, freedom, customization, and ultra-immersive storyline make it feel more like an RPG. Don't let the combat scare you away if you're an RPG gamer. This game is my personal GOTY so far.kapp1
gotcha...since i only saw one video which was gameplay i figured it was a shooter just like the rest of them... ill watch more videos to get a better idea of the game then...
It's a third person shooter with dialogue trees. It's much more of a action rpg than anything, with Character building of course. Being that it's Bioware, I'm sure they've nailed it, unless it turns out to like Jade Empire, where the initial previews were through the roof, and then later coming back down to reality.
According to the 1up yours podcast on Friday, John Davison was quoted saying that he enjoyed the first 3 hours of COD4 SP more than the entire play through of Mass Effect. That worryed me a bit.
Don't be worried. I'm not sure what GS will end up giving it score-wise, but from what I've played it's easily a 9.5+ (IMO).It's a third person shooter with dialogue trees. I thought Oblivion was supposed to be an RPG but it's some kind of a poor sword fighting simulator...

Jade Empire was awesome, take it back. IGN gave it 99/100, who cares what gamespot gave it? Gamespot flopped MGS, System Shock 2, and Shenmue...

I don't care what GS gives it. I loved Jade Empire, but it had nothing on KOTOR or the Baldur's Gate series from Bioware, which is still their best series imo. Look at my Xfire sig, do you think I care what GS scores their titles? Otherwise I wouldn't have about 40 hours of play into Hellgate... :P
Still, I'm still not writing off Mass Effect as the next greatest RPG this year. I'm sure I'll enjoy it, but I'll wait to play it in order to draw that conclusion.

I think it's going to get a few mixed reviews, but overall I'm sure it will do well. The only problem I see with the game is it's length, as we aren't sure if Bioware ended the game earlier than they wanted to due to a Holiday 2007 release deadline, which they did have.

Some people don't know what an RPG is unless you have 3 people standing still and taking turns hitting a monster. Don't worry about it. :)

WHOA, lemmings attacking potential lemmings!
To the TC, I am telling you to watch what you say about 360 games. You could call the sky red but never question an Xburp!
Don't you "play" the "roll" of someone/something in every "game"?
ME is an action game. It combines elements of lots of genres... like a lot of other games do, and it looks pretty good.

i doubt it. they've been working on this game for quite a few years.i dont have a 360 so i never really check on exclusive 360 games but i actually clicked on a mass effect gameplay video and saw it in action for the first time and its a 3rd person shooter like RE4 i noticed....i thought it was supposed to be a rpg... i understand its a western rpg but still...it doesn't seem or feel like an RPG...at all...Jockss2
since when do you decide what is or isn't an RPG. You haven't even played it.
Mass Effect is a RPG, that's a fact. Go ask Bioware or anyone who knows what an RPG is..
