Have you seen the ending yet?
It's easily the best video game ending EVER. My jaw was on the floor for the final hour and a half.
It's one of the best games I've ever played, but the technical issues hurt it in reviews.BioShockOwnz
but the thing is...the game is so damn good that texture popin is something nobody should give a crap about....the framerate issues ive had thus far have been minimal also.......even with these two issues...its still damn beautiful and probably the best looking game on the 360.
Mass Effect is one of the few games that I can finish..... and immediately wanna start playing through it again. Story, Voice Acting, Gameplay,Graphics (save for pop-in, and framerate, but this stuff didn't retract any of the awesomeness for me) are all amazing.

You must be kidding or haven't played many other games.
Anyway. I'm not getting into this. I've already given my opinion on it.

I'm a Fallout fanatic, and if you don't consider Mass Effect a 'real RPG', then I am ashamed to like the same game you do.

No I don't play many RPGs you are correct. However the fact that I stuck with this title until the very end says a lot. I play an RPG for the first 30 min and am completely turned off. Mass Effect griped me from the beginning and it just got better and better, and ended on an epic note.
How is that NOT one of the best endings?

lol i believe you were the one raving over the game saying it'll kill every other game and be AAA....what you say now?
The only thing I really didn't like about the game was the texture pop in. I know it isn't bioware's fault, as they were FORCED by MS to load everything from a 12x dvd drive.farrell2k
They could have implemented HD caching for those of us with HD's. No one has ever forced them to do poor optimizing on their games. They are not known for being good at it. They are known for they awesome story telling.
It is one of the best games I ever played. Gameplay, story, RPG elements, side quest, dialogue, etc. I only wish you could sprint while at the citadel and other places.
I also wish the autosave saved more often. A few times I forgot to save and dang it I had to do so much crap over. Then I could find the awsome armor I found, freaking died and lost it.

Except I do give a crap about it because it deals with suspension of disbelief. There's a certain level of willingness to accept a fictional narrative and in video games a lot of it has to deal with atmosphere and a sense of immersion. When you have a game which is rich in atmosphere and relies upon dialogue and emotional connection with the characters, and then you have glaring pop-in getting in the way of all that, then yes, it's perfectly acceptable to give a crap about it. Also there are other problems as well. The menus are obtuse, convoluted, and just plain user unfriendly. The load times are, at times, massive and begin to become frustrating. The side quests are mostly the same three or four environments repeated ad nauseum or traversing unbelievably mountainous terrain which is a pain to navigate. There are very real techical and design issues with the game. Simply put, it's like they had a brilliant game but they only decided to make 80-90% of that game and left the rest as "good enough". Everything else in that game is brilliant, the combat, the dialogue, the story, it's all top notch. But those technical and design issues, it's just too much to make it an AAA game or GOTY contender, especially in a year as stacked with AAA titles as 2007.Have you seen the ending yet?

me too, really from virmire on, virmire = one of the best levels/missions in video game history. heres a fact mass effect is the most cinematic game ever made

agreed completely, i can see kind of why it got an 8.5 mainly due to the new score method and all but wow this game is #2 favorite for me all time right behind re4.
i [icked it up again today to play and founf it quite boring actually :(...Im getting that felling with alot of 360 games now and only halo 2 really feels fresh and new everytime I pick it up to play
The frame rate was mega choppy and the combat felt very boring.... Mass effect certainly isnt GOTY material since there are beter games out there.
The driving levels alone make this game deserve the punishment of being snubbed in the awards parade. Absolute garbage dumped into an otherwise awesome game.Bgrngod
idk man some parts of the driving were rewarding. are you telling me you didnt like the feeling of blasting the rb cannon into a bunch of crates with geth behind it and watching the thing explode and geth fly everywhere on fire??? that thing packs some punch and is heartily satisfying

clear your disc cache...that will clear most of the gliches.
i gotta tell ya. i never understood this genre. after 10 hours of Mass Effect i was still bored and not terribly impressed even by the graphics. the voice acting was top notch though. anyway, i'm glad you guys are all enjoying it. easymoney725im with you on this one. i understand why an RPG fan would like it. the combat is horrible though.

I have a feeling the combat was totally lost on some people.
Its deffinatly to easy on normal and veteran. On those two settings you are not really forced to explore all the combat has to offer.
Using singularity and then dusting the geth with cryo rounds was a ton of fun.
Great game, but not necessarily goty.
Here's why, imo:
1.AI
Or rather the lack of it.
It could've been improved, but I'd rather have more complex, detailed control over teammates to make up for it.
Probably would've turned off 'casual' customers tho.
2.Nerve-wrecking equipment menus
Something so 'trivial' and perhaps simple, yet causes so much annoyance.
3.Technical difficulties.
Framerate, texture pop-in, you know this stuff already.
Personally, it wasn't too hard to look past that, but for some it maybe a bigger deal.
Yeah Mass Effect got robbed. Just look at Assassin's Creed, that had minor glitches but it manage to $core a 9.0. *shrugs*
I am hour 37 into it and have the final quest to do and 2 of the Collection quests left. I'm holding off on the last quest and exploring all the clusters to finish 100% of the game. The only true technical problem i've found is really the Texture pop-ins. But really I don't notice that much.
Deserved a 9.0 al the least.
It is an awesome game that begs to be played through multiple times. I've never felt the need in other RPG's, but in this you want to play it a level up the other classes. So cool.

I thought after my first completion of the game and commented here about it that M.E. would not make me play through multi times the way KOTOR did but I am about to complete my third play through and the game gets more enjoyable the more it's played.
The only thing: I just know all those empty planets and the ones you can only survey are left that way as M.E. 2 & 3 will fill all that in and I want now ! :)

You probably won't have to wait that long. There's always DLC. It would be a crime not to have any. Please Log In to post.
