I love how overrated franchises are considered the greatest games

Some of the best titles, get zero creditt because they aren't aren't halo, rare game, or nintendo games (or civilzation games). It is sad, that when I have to hear a dozen times about Banjo Kazzoie being the best platformer, when the game was barerly even a platformer, and more of an average action adventure game is bothersome. Where are the hardcore gamers, that remember the real hardcore games, the real c l a s s i c s, like rayman 2, x-com, alpha centaurai, total annhilation, or freespace 2. These games were all superior to your starcraft, or blizzard games and get zero credit. Oh well, when another person says something like "Banjo Kazzoie is the greatest platformer ever" it brings some of the biggests sighs from me...

All those games got a lot of credit..

Total annihilation is still considerd the best RTS and possibly the best game ever made by a lot of people..

Yes, it was. I borrowed a friend's PS2 for a couple of weeks, played all the supposedly great games for it out at the time, then rented Rayman Evolution before I returned it. I think it says something that I don't even remember what the aforementioned "great games" were, yet I remember Rayman.

Also, TA is, without doubt, better than any other RTS ever made (except maybe Homeworld). It brought a truly strategic aspect to the genre that had not been seen before and has not been seen since, and there's nothing better than watching as your Buzzsaw rapid fire artillery cannon tears through an enemy base; the rhythmic thumps of the cannon fire and the more sporadic explosions heard from the enemy's base create a symphony of destruction to be compared with Beethoven's Fifth or Dvorak's Ninth.

I would take Klonoa 2 over Rayman and Spyro if we're talking lesser talked about franchises.-RPGamer-

Nothing wrong with the games, but those aren't underrated at all is what I don't get. If you want underrated...Hotel Dusk, Exit, E4, Phoenix Wright....all easily very underrated.

Broken sword games are worth a mention for under rated.newyorkgiant

Smg greatest platformer of all time, wth are you people talking about I mean its good but I bet you haven't played enough to make that decision. I'm not saying I know it all when it comes to platformers but I'm pretty big on them and it and rpgs are my favourite genres (though of course this gen you find your self playing alot of shooters and a couple of racers more than anything. Its not that I dont like them, GoW is a hell of alot of fun and I'm alot better at shooters because of this gen but still...

Rayman 1 and 2, Spyro 1-3, crash bandicoot 1, all the wariolands and not forgeting Jet set radio future. Well thats my personal fav (I wish they were gonna make another, fake tgs list=:cry: ) Im not saying those are the best platformers ever but they were great for their time and tbh Im sure Id know even more great platformers if I had been around for the previous gen. Then smg comes out and some sheep shout its the best platformer ever, no offence but for the majority of you who said that you haven't played enough and for the rest and yes I know there were some people who said that who knew what they were talking about fairs enough, it is a very innovative and fun game.

It's not that he's trying too hard not to conform. It's that those games are, indeed, awesome. Starcraft is nowhere near the caliber of Total Annihilation; Sly is so polished and was so innovative for its time that it is better even than Galaxy; the depth of Alpha Centauri is so great that the Civilization games are little more than Catan by comparison; and Freespace 2 even lacks an analogue in our modern gaming world. The only games that were even remotely like it-TIE Fighter, X-Wing, Privateer 2, the Wing Commander games-came before and were rendered ancient by its presence.

SMG is the best platformer to date...but best of all time? Not really

Platforming is one interesting genre. SMB pushed it forward, but then games such as Jet Grind Radio, Rayman, Spyro, Crash, Klonoa, Mario, and Sonic to all come from it. Next generation gave us updates, plus Sly, Jak, and Ratchet. Platformers really depended on diversity to help move it forward. While SMG does perfect the elements, it is not innovative. This time we have games like Crush, Fez, and Echochrome changing our views on what a platformer can be. Changing your point of view in a platformer is the new innovation and I can't wait until one game that fully uses this can be made.
