Why would they need to? you have Dumb Sony out there asking $200 more for a console that is no better. MS can leave the price right where they want it. Nugtoka
expect a PS3 price drop sooner than expected. Sir howard stringer even said himself they were planning on "refining" the PS3 price. that looks like it means a price drop. analysts predict a 150-200 dollar drop.

150-200? price drop wtf are they smoking ? if they do that sony will be looking at massive losses[QUOTE="Nugtoka"]Why would they need to? you have Dumb Sony out there asking $200 more for a console that is no better. MS can leave the price right where they want it. jigglebilly1983

A price drop of that magnitude is nothing more than a fanboy's wet dream. Not going to happen.

Because they already are getting a large selection of the hardcore market, they have to drop the price to start reaching out to the casual market. Not to mention that with Halo 3 around the corner, they have the chance to create a big game and price drop combo for their console.

wet dreams can come true!:D
Consoles never get a price drop this time of year, and they're not going to drop the price when everyone will be getting one for Halo 3, price drop will come at Christmas when Sony drop the PS3 price.NickJayDI've seen consoles drop prices in May. Why not August, especially on the heels of the big release of Halo 3. Halo 3 combined with a nice price drop can possibly drive up console sales by way of attachment.
I predict ms is too greedy to drop prices when teh Halos 3 is coming out. Its going to sell systems I tell ya.iwo4lifeAnd I predict they will. It'll drive Sony nuts on the heels of the holiday buying season.
WHY IS THE ELITE PRICE DROP...IT WAS JUST ANNOUCNE AND THEY ARE MAKING GOOD MONEY WITH ITimelitenowHalo 3 is coming. A price drop on the heels of the release could help jumpbothgameandconsolesales.
I believe MS will wait for Sony to drop the price of the PS3 first then match it.Riverwolf007I think it'll be the other way around. Microsoft drops first and perhaps a little early for Sony. Plus, there's a little psychology involved. Whoever drops first tends to get the best image, whereas anyone who follows tends to be seen as a copycat. Look at last gen and all the price chasing Microsoft did. Now MS has a chance to turn the tables when Sony isn't quite ready.

Whoever drops first tends to get the best image, whereas anyone who follows tends to be seen as a copycat. Look at last gen and all the price chasing Microsoft did. Now MS has a chance to turn the tables when Sony isn't quite ready. There are three obvious things here - first, the price drop will be $100. All of you predicting $50 price drops because of "greed" need to grasp business a little better. Small price drops are *bad business* - they signal people that more small price drops are coming over time, and they don't dramatically increase sales. You want one big price drop to make people go "wow, holy crap, I've got to go get that RIGHT NOW!".
The second thing is that Microsoft may want to move into the position of being the price leader. Their direct competition, Sony, is on the ropes, and talking about price-cuts. What a better way to nail Sony to the wall than by dropping the price of the 360, forcing Sony's hand? They can not only force Sony to drop earlier (before they're ready, so it financially hurts them more) but they can put the drop in sync with a Halo 3 launch. Instead of letting Sony drop on their time schedule, when it boosts their sales, they can kill the Sony sales boost by price dropping to the tune of Halo 3. Halo 3 and a 360 - for $360 - hello advertising campaign.
The third thing is that Microsoft has to play around their own company policy here - getting systems in homes matters more than short term profit, it's just that we don't know if they've convinced all of the executives of this or not. They likely have, and Halo 3 sales should more than cover the loss.

Halo 3 and a 360 - for $360 would be awesome. (I don't have a 360 yet)

That's more or less what I was thinking, too. but the $360 is a nice touch. So would a $399 Elite with Halo 3 packed in.Please Log In to post.
