Doubt it. Nintendo is in the position to do whatever they want. They regained control of the industry again. They more or less get to choose its direction because of this. Judging by the onslaught of old school looking core style games coming out for the wii, I'm guessing they are working on regaining that audience. It only makes sense. Realistically, Nintendo could release a console now that blows away both the 360 and the ps3 in terms of power, and ms and sony would be two years behind by the time they came to market. At that point, Nintendo would have such a big Marketshare they'd be in the same position they are now.
Actually the Metroid creator said that the console will "take your breath", which can be interpreted that it will have something innovative yet again.

The metroid creator was also specualting. He has no part in hardware development at all with nintendo. He has no idea what the next wii is going to be like.
In the same interview where he said he "thinks it will take your breath", he also said he had yet to try the 3DS.
Graphics is petty, gameplay matters. I hope they fix up the Gameplay and get rid of the Casual focus.
Good, all I want is an HD quality Image and Nintendo flagship titles. Keep everything else.FightingfanYeah. There is nothing wrong with that! I am actually pretty satisfied with the level of graphics this gen, so if the next Wii looks as good as my 360 then I'm stoked. I can only imagine playing Mario Galaxy in 1080p!! I think I just got a little light headed from that thought!
This gen altogether on every console has been casual focused.Graphics is petty, gameplay matters. I hope they fix up the Gameplay and get rid of the Casual focus.

Can someone explain to me how the 360 isn't just a PS3 with Master Chief included, or the Sega wasn't just a Super Nintendo with Sonic the Hedgehog included? All these things perform the same function, the differences between them are minimal.Tylendal
Well first the 360 came out first this generation so if anything the PS3 is a copy of the 360...This generation each system has had enough to differentiate it from the competition. Also each company has done what it initially set out to do with its console this generation to varying degrees of success.
IMO, announcing a console at this coming E3 is a good move. It will not be launched until fall 2012 and the global economy should have recovered nicely by then. Also, Nintendo will be the first one forced to jump into the next generation because of the limited power of their system and the fact that their are now three options for companies to push motion controls on...

I agree. It was inevitable, with the game industry booming. Oddly enough, the Wii--the system responsible for it--probably has the most "hardcore" games.
Before this gen started I was hoping for an advancement in the fps genre--or even a catch-up to pc titles like the older Clancy games. Reach is perhaps an exception, but games like MW and Gears are as casual as they get.

Even if it's just those, it's a guaranteed buy in my household.

seeing blood, guts and dismemberment means its "HARDCORE" straight away on SW's. ***I will say I have to put things into perspective: I come from the older NES/SNES era of games. People claim games like Battletoads, Ninja Gaiden, and Double Dragon series are next to impossible. This just isn't the case. Myself, and plenty of people I know had no problems with these games--I've beat Ninja Gaiden without losing a life--and this all being under ten years of age.
What if the Wii had off been the same power as 360 and PS3 when released, I wonder how different this gen would be, imagine all the Nintendo game's and Wii exclusives and every 3rd party game thats on 360 and PS3.
I reckon the Wii would of been in a much bigger lead and Nintendo could of took down Xbox or PS3, maybe causing one system to go the way of the Dreamcast
I doubt it, cuz the price of the Wii was one of Nintendo's biggest advantages coming into this generation, and that would have made the price of the Wii higher. Not to mention, I dont think that the lack of third party games on the Wii has only to do with the graphics, but because the controls are so different. What if the Wii had off been the same power as 360 and PS3 when released, I wonder how different this gen would be, imagine all the Nintendo game's and Wii exclusives and every 3rd party game thats on 360 and PS3.

This is what these so-called "abandoned hardcore gamers" want. I personally don't. Nintendo is about innovation and new ideas. Also their franchises.LastRambo341I wont lie, most of Nintendo's classic franchises have been truely great games on the Wii. However, the lame "Wii Music" nonsense and third party garbage, alongside no online network and limited hardware... it's made the Wii less appealing to me this gen. I wouldnt mind so bad if Nintendo priced their games decently. At Wal-Mart I've seen Twilight Princess priced at $50 within the last month or two. That's insane.

Nintendo has learned from past mistakes. You can't just add more power and call it a day. It causes less sales.
Nintendo will release a new console when they have something surprising in store.

Then how do you explain the 3DS?
Glasses-less 3D wasn't something surprisng?

If that were the case the wii would had been a huge failure as no casual is going to drop $400-$500 on a console.

If that happened, either Sony or MS would be forced to drop out of the console business. It would depend on exclusives, which would mean that MS would be out. Why? Because all 3rd party devs wouldn't take the MS bribe to be exclusive to the xbox because the amount of money garnered from sales from the wii would be greater.
I use to think that gameplay matter during the PSone vs Dreamcast, at that time they are right... but now I cant stand jagged pixel.Graphics is petty, gameplay matters. I hope they fix up the Gameplay and get rid of the Casual focus.

Yeah that would've been epic! The only thing really missing from the Wii is the HD capabilities. That and maybe a little more 3rd party support. I would doubt though that either Sony or Microsoft would ever go the route of the Dreamcast, simply because of their financial backing. Sega, while a big company, wasn't nearly the corporate giant like Sony back in the PS2 era.Graphics is petty, gameplay matters. I hope they fix up the Gameplay and get rid of the Casual focus.
I use to think that gameplay matter during the PSone vs Dreamcast, at that time they are right... but now I cant stand jagged pixel. Yeah, it's like we got spoiled now. We've come to expect so much from games now. I go back and play my Dreamcast every now and then, and some of those games look aweful, but it seems like I don't remember them looking that bad back then. Jaggies suck!Well lets think about what Nintendo could change: control method, distribution of games method, raw power, online,... that's all I could think of. Raw power and online are a given, they should improve at least a bit. I don't see Nintendo going DD as they aren't very good with online in the first place and it's crazy ignore retail at this point in time. I don't think there's even a chance they'll goOnlive route either. That leaves control method. I don't really see them trying to innovate here again. The only practical options are standard game-pad, motion, and kinect-like camera, so personally I see them sticking with motion.
How I see it is that there really isn't much room for Nintendo to innovate. Their next console will likely have more power, better online, and a more precise motion controller but that's it.
People said the same thing about the GC and GBA. Maybe I can't but I think a group of people thinking together could, that's why I am asking people for their ideas of what Nintendo could possibly innovate in.. Believe it or not, Nintendo is not magical; with some collective thinking we could easily come up with whatever Nintendo could.
