I've had a lingering thought about this for a while and I'm worried that MS is going to blow out this new wiimote tech in the 360 and its going to kill the potential of the XBOX brand. Now I'm not going to bring Sony into this as they've already failed hard with that sixaxis garbage.

Bottom line, the wiimote is a gimick, its imprecise, aquard to hold and ultimatly just about every review other than wiisports you'll find a sentence close to this, "the wiimote functions are poorly implemented" yeah, ya know why? because its a toy... its a toy that is not up for the challange of the fine movements and functionality of the currant standard of video game entertainment...

Please MS don't jump on with this in a big way... If you want to sell it as a gimick than fine but don't do something stupid and base the XBOX brand on this device...

The Wiimote is not a gimmick, it's a revolution, just like the analog stick before it.

When people and developers like the "gimmick", the hardware makers will put the gimmick into their system so that the people and developers will like the system.

The reason the SIXAXIS came out wrong was because they added it at the last minute instead of waiting for the PS4.

Imprecise? How exactly, because you can;t keep your hand steady? Who's fault is that. Difficult to hold? Again, how? It's not like it weighs a ton or something...

And well your review statement is just silly, most of the games that say that are lazy ports.

You know what? In about 3-4 years, it's going to happen with the Xbox 720, PS4, Wii2.

Get used to it, nintendo has set another standard.

How can i say this in confidence? The Wii is selling very well, correct? Why is it selling so well? The appeal of the Wiimote.

----

Funny, you call the Wiimote imprecise. It was never imprecise in Metroid Prime 3, Zack and Wiki, Super Mario Galaxy, hell.. a lot of Wii games. You must have played the crap.

Im not even going to begin arguing with you about it being awkward to hold. Frankly, the Wiimote and Nunchuck being far apart is more comfortable than holding a traditional controller.

Its a toy huh? The same can be said about your precious 360 and the PS3.

Oh yeah, the Xbox brand is going to die, cause, they'll make their own Wiimotes. Have fun in 2011/2012.

Motion sensing is the future of video gaming. Period. I have a Wii and for a first attempt a true motion interface standard on a console it is awesome. Microsoft will certainly 100% for sure be incorporating some sort of motion technology into future consoles. Take it to the bank.

I'm not saying that Nintendo and the wii are evil or anything... I just think about the lot of games that are out or I've played that the wiimote is just a disaster in... Have you played SSBB with the wiimote? OMG its an absolute mess, a failure on every level. Why are we cutting the wiimote slack? should'nt it be crucified for not running a staple game properly? It seems that the only type of games it has run well in are games that only sparingly implement it.

Again, Im not trying to tick you off, and I have a very steady hand (when its not shaking violenetly) its just that the wiimote IMHO at this point is far far less of a controller than the industry standard...

My only question is why are Nintendo fans soo eager to say that Ninendo set the standard with this wii-mote, but they won't give M$ props for the DD aspect of console gaming... Last gen NOONE wanted to dive in headfirst to Online gaming on console's except M$. Sega had the right idea with seganet but it was poorly implamented, not streamlined like live.

Anyway to respond to the OP statement... it's here to stay. (just like DD haters... looking at the cows and Sheep).. Look for some sort of motion sensing tech in the XB720 (or before the end of this gen).

So? Nintendo has set so many standards in the gaming industry -- its hard to ignore the fact that motion controls, or some sort of motion controls, wont be part of the next generation of consoles.

The idea sold so well so quickly, its hard to ignore.

The Wii-mote is great for kids, casuals and the older generation. As long as there is a more mature focus from one of the other platforms then I couldn't care less what they do with motion controls.

Cause it wasn't bashed as much.
I've become a nintendo fan too but i really appreciate M$'s efforts in the online department.

I don't understand this thread though. Should i laugh right now or wait when i see the OP with a 40 button controller trying his best to catch up with my holodeck?

In its currant iteration, i think its a subpar way to play a video game... Perhaps they can make the tech better in future attempts...

As for MS DD... nobody like to give MS any credit. What people don't realize is that Microsoft has started the biggest revolution in currant gaming and its not a wonky remote controller... Its quality console online gaming... easily more important than the wiimote.

Of course it will be improved upon. It still has its flaws but this kind of technology advances quite a bit in 5 years time.

I really actually prefer playing games with a 360 controller or K/M apart from games that are made for it like Wii Sports. But i suppose i have'nt played a wii long enough to really get use to it.

Online gaming has been around since the Snes on Consoles! No one done nothing to the scale of Microsoft in the Online department untill Xbox came out but Sony and Nintendo had already done online before hand. Thats not much of a revolution but more of a evolution over time, Microsoft needed a selling point on the Xbox and Online was the gimmick! Hell i can name several more important things which has happened in the gaming industry which surpasses online gaming like the D-pad, Analogue sticks, Infa Red pointer, Motion sensing, All those are more important than online mode. If anything Online modes have practically killed good quality Single player games. I dont see why people even dare attempt to say that online has been more important than the Wii-mote! The Wii-mote is a new way of playing games while Online just adds Multi-player.

lol I've been hearing some $h*t about the Wii Remote... do none of you "gamers" like trying something different.... Games like Zack and Wiki, MP3 and MOH Heroes the control schemes have been great....... B4 you start saying I am Nintendo fanboy shall I post pics of the other 2 consoles and handhelds I have....

I am a gamer and don't mind changing the way I play games.... e.g I was playing fps's on the PC since the early 90's... I started with me at the age of 10 or 11 playing Wolf3d with just the arrow keys, then moving to WASD and mouse for looking/shooting.... When I got my first console I adapted to play games like TimeSplitters and Metroid Prime...

I am now playing COD4 and UT3 on 360/PS3 and I have no problem with the controls... But the design of the nunchuck and remote work very well for fps's when done correctly they are easy to use and very responsive.... Is all the hate due to it being made by Nintendo.... or would this be the next big thing if Sony or M$ designed it.... OPEN YOUR FREAKING MINDS AND TAKE THE FAN BOY GLASSES OFF!

I'm sorry, you're just awful at Smash Bros then because the Wiimote is great for the game because it allows the attack buttons to be worked while not having to leave the jump and defend buttons (on the other hand) at all.

I didn't even read your post but MS is a company that wants to make money, the Wii is selling very well due to it's motion sensing, therefore MS will copy the wii in motion sensing in order to get more sells even if the motion control sucks for some 'hardcore' 360 gamers, all they want is money.

The wii-mote gimmick will effect all future gen consoles aswell not just the XBOX 360, expect us all to be playing with wagglesticks next gen. Everything that the Wii has bought to the gaming industry like mini games, shovelware, wagglesticks, crap graphics will carry on to the next gen. Sony and Microsoft will get by then you don't need a quality HD power house console to make money all you need it $50 to make the worst console ever and market it really well.

False, there are quite a few amazing games for it.. Metroid Prime 3 and Resident Evil 4 were amazing controler wise.. Maybe you can actually play some of those games instead of making fanboyish remarks.. Oh thats right this forum is full of irrational and illogical people.. Silly me.

*facepalm

lol keep believing the wii is a fad. Oh ya... old ppl are more mature than teens.. technically. The ppl who argue that wii is mostly bought by adults/ old ppl fails at all logic. Ok, let's say that only old ppl pick up the wii. It does make it the most mature console. Saying old ppl are not gamers just proves that you are childish. What makes it weird is how ppl define what is hardcore and what is not. Little immature kids who think they have to prove themselves to be mature gamers by blowing up ppl's heads witha shotgun. I continue to believe that SW is 5% gamers... 95% fanboys/girls.

@fanboys: GO discuss which DMC4 version has the better graphics lol.

oh ya. LOL @ ppl saying wiimote is unresponsive. Is this argument still being used.

i actually agree. but i believe ms should not bother with the wii remote 2. its an obvious copy and it reeks desperation. no one asking for this no dev are begging for it. they can go to the wii. now this isn't going to make casuals run to the 360. i can bet on that. the wii is cheap gimmicky and casuals loved it. the 360 is the total opposite. it breaks (and they know it)and it doesn't have the same games that 5 years old, casuals and grandparents want. thats just the truth. nintendo will laugh there a$$ off at this.

Well the wii mote is fun, but I would hate to see it replace the analog controller. xXHackettXx

It tends entirely on the game.. There is no one controler that beats all..

wii mote with fps is a pretty cool combination. Beats a 360 controller.

actually using a keyboard is not that bad for fighting games. I found it quite enjoyable.

I love how the Nintendo fanboys pounce on the topic creator using the Wii's popularity with old women, as if that somehow justifies its existence. The Wiimote sucks ass. Most of the movements you do in games don't get picked up, and the ones that do are so retarded you can't help but laugh at yourself for looking so stupid. Nintendo half assed the motion controls because they knew the Wii was a gamble. By some grace of god or, more likely, deal with the devil they've received ridiculous hype and success for a console that offers 3 good exclusive games (I'm probably being generous) and crap gimmicky controls as its selling point. If MS want to do the motion control thing, they should do it right. Make the controller comfortably conform to your hand, while giving you the full range of motion control that people actually think of when they hear the words 'motion control'. No stupid waggling to replace button presses, my god what a gimmick. How about when I move my arm like im rolling a bowling ball the game actually picks up that motion instead of reading a generic force = character bowls action like in the Wii. Is that really too much to ask? Apparently for Nintendo it is. But go ahead fanboys and attack me and others for wanting something better than the trash Nintendo fed you. pooonu

You hurt my feelings. LOL

I didn't say you couldn't get enjoyment out of using the Wiimote, you are playing games with it afterall. I'm just saying it sucks at its proposed function. Which is motion controls. I mean the NES controller also sucked, and was very uncomfortable, but I'll be damned if I didn't have fun playing Super Mario 3 with it.

Yeah but why to the controls work well some games that i mentioned....

The main thing I am wondering about is nothing to do with Nintendo but the whole Wii Mote design and the nunchuck esp for fps's.... imo I think they work very well and offer another way for console gamers to play fps's....

The Wiimote is not a gimmick, it's a revolution, just like the analog stick before it.

When people and developers like the "gimmick", the hardware makers will put the gimmick into their system so that the people and developers will like the system.

The reason the SIXAXIS came out wrong was because they added it at the last minute instead of waiting for the PS4.

colmusterd28

Have I played with the Wiimote?

THAT'S THE ONLY WAY I PLAY BRAWL.

I have a GCN controller, but I always use the Wiimote sideways because it's the most reliable! For a game like Smash Bros, you NEED a D-Pad. And the buttons are closer to each other on the Wiimote sideways, making it faster.

And besides, 2 years after the N64 launched, the control stick was still not being used correctly, and only few games like Super Mario 64 and Wave Race made good use of it. There were plenty of games that used it badly, like Star Wars: Shadow of the Empire.

The Wii mote & nunchuk combo is the best controls for an fps on console. I think it's the best console controller ever made aswell. I wish i could use the nunchuk & Wii mote for cod4 on my ps3.

The Wiimote also complements the analog stick, they work together for Mario Galaxy and FPS.

Too bad the D-pad is super-small though. That doesn't help.
