I see why Skyrim Remastered is free

For pc owners...I booted it up this morning just to see what it looks like. Man...I'm not impressed.

I played this game years ago with much better graphics. No wonder pc players don't have to pay...this game was playable years ago and looked much better with mods.

It's like they took a couple of mods, threw them in, called it a remaster and sold it to people that can't afford a gaming rig.

Still a masterpiece...but I was expecting a bigger difference in graphics. Your thoughts?

I didn't get it, because I never saw the use in buying that expensive DLC.

Haven't played the game yet so I can't say for sure. But the graphic mods I've seen in the past kinda wrecked the game's art direction. So it's hard to see how this could look any worse than them.

I find it really weird that this next gen remaster look so much worst than the pc version with mods some years ago.

well duh, it wouldn't have sold anything on pc. for xbox players though its a pretty great deal because they get to experience skyrim mods for the first time.

Honestly more interested in the improvements from 64bit+dx11 client, it was obviuos that the visual upgrade would be neligible vs mods

Well i think the biggest change the PC community will appreciate is the 64bit executable. The lighting and shadows are a huge plus, not to mention better mod tools.

I think this is meant to keep the game current, bring in new people, then announce ES VI at E3.

$60 on consoles is an insult though.

I agree with you guys...this was made for consolites, through and through.

In 3/6 months, I'm sure new mods will make it look great again. I'm just a little dissappointed...a part of me was hoping it'd look great. Instead...it looks like an aged game already. I guess that's the nature of such an old game. BF1 and other recent titles have maybe spoiled me on the graphics front.

Took some screenshots of the PC version. All I have to say is lol....

The whole point was to get the game to the PS4/Xbox One. They could have just did a 1:1 port but they converted the engine to 64 bit, improved the baseline textures/object quality a bit, pumped the rendering to 1080p, added some new rendering options (better lighting effects), added some graphic options on the PC (borderless window), added an internal modding service to the game, expanded mods to the consoles, and gave the game for free to people on the PC who already owned all of the DLC.

Especially if you are a PC gamer, why would you possibly complain about this? They could have just taken a 1:1 port of the 360 version to the consoles and rendered those ugly ass graphics at 1080p30, but they took their time to improve it substantially.

One of the best aspects of console generations is the ability to re-sell content again and again.

Good to see they put extra work into the port though. Not every developer does.

It's my most hated aspect of PC gaming. The community just needs to live and let live.

The lighting in the special edition is completely different than in those pics, so are the trees.

Since I have 360/PC versions, doubt I would get it.

I hear there is an improvement in loading times.

I never actually used any graphic mods, so hopefully I will notice at least a bit of a difference from the vanilla game. The only mod I will miss for now is SkyUI.

Well im glad PC gamers have plenty of time to bitch about console games.

The console market is easier to exploit especially in this case when it's far behind.

Also only the upfront cost of the gaming hobby is more and you are not just getting a "more expensive console" The cost involves more than just the base machine.

That is from the 360 or PS3 version, the lighting in remaster is completely different. Go watch the many comparisons. Where did you get those pics?

Not really surprising, since there really didn't do a lot to the PC version. Still it's free and I will take it.

The console version should have been free, or at least greatly reduced for those who own the game on the 360 / PS3 (similar to the Minecraft upgrade program). Hell people who had to put up with that broken ass PS3 version should have gotten some extra free stuff from Bethesda. :-)

bethesda is so lazy they couldn't even be arsed to fix the clipping issues occurring with some outfits

The game is starting to look more decent after installing about 6 gigs worth of high res textures and getting reshade working.

Didn't even know I got it for free on PC. They probably did that so that PC gamers will make mods for console gamers to download.

I just don't get that... as the gen goes on these remasters are getting lazier and lazier.

As a PC gamer, I rather have good remasters for games like Bioshock and Skyrim, that cost me like 15-20 dollars. Where actual work and effort was put into restoring classic.

Than get a lazy remaster for free.

Just imagine if you went from Skyrim on PC and wanted to get it on xbone and PS4. Lol. They'd feel ripped off for sure paying 60 dollars for it.

Seems alright from what I've played. God-rays, depth of field, better foliage, motion blur was pretty easy to see in the 30 seconds opening.

Still didn't bother adding FOV or proper in game options, and the UI is made for the xbox360, almost no effort to adapt it for the pc.

But as wasdie said, it's free. So, eh?

Last gen I bought a lot of remasters. Because I could get so many PS2 games I didn't play before in widescreen, with a way cripser resolution.

But jesus christ are these remasters getting lazier and lazier. Some are even 30 fps xD

@demi0227_basic: the game was ported to the Fallout 4 engine. A more stable and modern engine compared to the original Skyrim one.

So yeah, its a bit more than throwing cheap mods and repackaging it. Its a remaster, not a remake.

That said, I started it up last night and played until after you get the first shout and I have to admit.....it was fun.

Skyrim in my eyes isn't that great of a game, but I forgot how fun it is at low levels....when you don't have a shopping list of quick menu weapons and you're not a god amongst ants.

I never finished Skyrim on console and retired my ps3 so I'm happy for this. I bought the vanilla PC skyrim when I made my rig but didn't buy DLC .I was going to buy the cheap key from G2A yesterday so I qualified but lo and behold the update was in my steam library yesterday ,I preloaded it and scored! Idk why I got it without owning the DLC but I'm not complaining. I love TES games , I'll be buying this for my switch next year too.
