I still think HD-DVD PQ is far superior to Blu-Ray

Who else thinks so?

But I think Blu-Ray will win because its integrated into the PS3 - meaning already close to 3 million Blu-Ray players in peoples homes thanks to the PS3.

If Blu-Ray wins though...I cant help but think will be missing supeior PQ from HD-DVD...

But then again it was like that with Beta and VHS. (Beta having the better PQ)

I think both formats are using VC-1 now so they're probably equal.

You are in the minority. Although I have been seeing more HDDVD ads recently.

Media formats are the same as consoles...the format with the best content will win.  Since nearly every studio is backing Blu-ray (along with nearly every hardware maker), Toshiba's proprietary HD-DVD format will lose due to lack of content and lack of partners making the hardware.  Using the industry standard is generally a better choice unless you can fill some kind of niche.

The format does not effect the picture quality. The only thing that does is the codecs used, and how well the transfer is.

The two formats have very similar picture quality... it really all depends on the title.

You should check out "Casino Royale" on Blu-ray if you're worried about quality. It looks unbelievable. :)

Blu-ray's movie lineup is much better then HD-DVD, plus they are supported by Disney...that is why they are going to win.

They're identical in picture quality, with a few exceptions. And BluRay can only get better.

Nope, its entirely movie dependent. VC-1, HD Movie Cameras, differing quality of compression within codecs, these and more can all effect PQ. Blackhawk Down for instance I believe is in MPEG2, but is supposed to be one of the best looking and sounding videos around on either format.

Crank is also one of the best looking films on either HD-DVD or Bluray and is also in MPEG2.

they are compressed the same way. There is no difference. It just depends on what movie your watching and how well they mastered it.

u keep thinking that.....However, I agree with your second thought, that Blu-Ray will win because about 3 million people have Blu-Ray players in their homes. I'm not sure, but I think that most/all HD-DVD players don't support 1080P yet....am i right?

You know, I'm really getting tired of reading "this is system wars, not format wars". It's a stupid remark, considering that the format of each console for HD movie viewing has a DIRECT impact on how successful the respective console will sell and vice-versa. What, you don't think the fact that Blu-Ray is integrated into each PS3 has no impact on the sales of Blu-Ray movies? If MS lowers the price of the HD-DVD add-on and the HD-DVD consortium starts to partner with more studios to release more high-profile movies, you don't think that will affect 360 sales? Don't kid yourself. Format wars are DIRECTLY related to System wars. Thinking otherwise is simply foolish. If you don't believe me, go to AVS forum, which deals with the Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD war.  They mention the PS3 and 360 ALL THE TIME!

I prefer Blu Ray, it looks incredible on a 1080p display. The Departed, Babel, WTC, and Casino Royale are absolutely glorious on Blu Ray. I can't go back to DVD after watching those films in Blu Ray.

Eh, i kind of agree. I have been stung on several blu ray movies that look terrible. But lately, the quality has been getting a little better. I never had a quality problem with a hd-dvd movie. I certainly hope the hd-dvd camp starts putting out some killer titles so it can get back in the game. I really hate the fact Sony could win with blu ray...it just turns my stomach.
