This gen is almost over and when Nintendo launches WiiU next year (2013 at max) Nintendo will make official their victory at the console wars...it already won the first battle with the DS stomping the PSP, and unless Sony or MS are able to sell around 50 million units by the time this gen is over i really think is safe to say that Nintendo won.

So much for the "Nintendo going third party" we all heard at the beginning of the gen, i'm glad to see that originality and high quality still means something in this industry, we salute you Nintendo, winner of the 7th gen of Video games...:)

fv

And yes, if anyone is wondering...i'm just joinig the countless of trolling threads that SW is made now...but still, it Won :P

The Wii already won when Sony and MS tried to tap into the Wii's market with motion controls.

Around 50 million units disagree with this.

In all seriousnes, yep, PS3 is probably the best console this gen despite the awful launch.

While I believe saleswise that Nintendo will win this generation at almost 90 million Wii's sold worldwide (and counting), vs. the 360 and PS3, both of which are around 60+ million sold worldwide and counting. In fact, the above information is based on the last official quaterlies posted by the BIG THREE. I'm simply posting in this here SW thread to be clear that a gaming generation doesn't end once a new generation starts. :P

It continues on until the very last console is produced. Just like all previous generations before. I'm not even into sales either, I just wanted to make sure SW remembered that, as this particular point (of "when a generartion ends") has been explained in SW ad nauseum. :P

EDIT : FOR SW NOOBS, Newcomers, and forgetfuls :

Here is ONE LINK of hundreds : http://www.gamespot.com/forums/topic/28736906/is-this-gen-over-when-wii-u-comes-out-next-year

---------

SolidTy :

Did the PSOne and N64 'sales' battle or games battle end when the Dreamcast came out? :P No, it did not....that's not how it works. Next Generation WILL start yes, but the previous Generation will still be going. ;)

If you are talking about SALES...well, the SNES was beat every early year in overall sales by the Genesis, in the 16 bit sales wars until something happened, the SNES eventually caught up, and is now remembered as the SALES VICTOR for that generation. ;)

Who knows what the future holds, but I don't worry about it. I only worry when the machines are new, and they don't have "safe" install bases...now, it doesn't even matter...over 20 million, and whatever.

If you are talking about games, again, we don't know the impact the Wii U will have on the PS3 and 360, which will either force next gen early or it won't. Sony wants the PS3 to last as long as possible, and Xbox is relying on the Kinect market, so they have their own agenda's and ideas about their business.

Well its easy to say who won what.

Wii - sales

PS3 - library

PC - Graphics (duh)

360 - Online service (though I guess you could argue Steam is better, XBL is better then the other console offerings if you pay up)

this Current Generation,

Nintendo may have took the Money, Sony may have Games, but I'm pretty sure the 360 would be the overall winner because of it has BOTH the Sales and the Games, not just Sales and not just Games.

However Microsoft didn't win entirely, Nintendo I think took the Handheld race by storm and won that one with the Nintendo DS, unless you REALLY want to add the iPhone to the mix then perhaps it can be argued that the iPhone won, although IMO it shouldn't be counted for the Race for the DS and PSP because iPhone games are relatively new and should really be pinned up against the 3DS and Vita.

Invalid thread. Sales mean nothing. iPhone sells alot but Samsung Galaxy is far better. Wii is no longer relevant in this generation the only consoles getting any mention are of course PS3 and Xbox. Therefore, the winner of this generation is between Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Obviously with two choices, the flip of a coin will decide who wins.

All good but this ""i'm glad to see that originality and HIGH QUALITY still means something in this industry ""... You mean hardware wise , game wise , first party only wise, overall library wise , Wii - mote wise ... Where this High quality stands for? Anyways...

A fact remains here you like it or not. Its not opinion , its fact.

First time in history of console gaming , since Atari 2600 , first one on race by far (Wii) dies first than dead last ones and is getting the worse support than both losers (x360/PS3). This never happened before and Nintendo wins ( heres my opinion ) the most "Flop" console of all time ( sales / Value ratio ).

Win the race , sure. Win the gamers. Not even close. 8/10 unbiased ninties stating Wii collecting dust more than ever the last 2 years. Sadly you cant play sales alone

Skyrim won this generation on all platforms (besides the PS3 for now) It's the only game this gen that feels like a next gen game. To me Skyrim is the equivalent to last gens Doom 3's and Half Life 2's.

People could try to twist it the way they want, the fact remains the same, it sold more, you cannot go against the numbers and you cannot invent them, 8/10? do you happen to know every wii unbiased owner in the world?

Hardware wise? anybody has any doubt that the wii is the best machine of the bunch? no RROD, no YLOD.

Game Wise? entirely subjective, not messurable.

First Party Wise? Again, subjective as well as library, only the cold numbers remain in the end...and it isn't pretty for MS or Sony (compared to Nintendo).

Yeah it definitely won in sales. I think if we're playing the metagame that it also won in exclusives compared to the 360 and PS3 because they're just so much more available. 360 wins in multiplats(a slight victory as only a few games such as Skyrim show major differences), PS3 won the Blu-ray/HD-DVD format war, PC still wins in tech. But overall, Nintendo won the generation. Sony clearly lost, but at least they still have a place in the market and live to fight another gen.;)

You are a bandodger Wii60 hardcore super fanboy to the max (one of the most blatant trolls in SW history, but lately you've toned that down a tiny bit) that wants to give your anti-Sony badmouthing every last motherf***cking chance...I call BS, as anyone that knows your other accounts would know from your history. Well I guess PS3 could still beat 360 sales and probably will eventually, but that's moot. It's still just fighting for second place, and I don't think it would make much of an impact on the market or even for gamers.

He's a cow who wants to give PS3 every last mothaf***king chance of out selling the 360. I call BS, next gen begins when Wii U launches, nothing more needs to be said.

SaltyMeatballs

I'm confused by how you could think that. Just because the Wii U releases doesn't mean this gen is over. The PS3 and 360 will still be releasing first party games and will carry on strong support up until their consoles release, and most likely after that they will still carry some support.

It would at least be better to say that when all three consoles from this gen have a successor in the market is when this generation ends but even that is ignorant.

WTF are you talking about, too many years on SW has made you senile or something.

SaltyMeatballs

Too many Rough nights with Sony would be my guess.

So? according to you, we are still in the 6th gen uh? But Nice try ;)

charizard1605

I didn't say we are still in any generation. When new machines come along, a new generation starts, obviously. ;)

We are in the next gen sure, I never ever claimed otherwise, the issue is that the old generation doesn't die off immediately when a new generation begins. Nice try though. ;)

This topic of previous gens dying is old in SW, and already has been explained over and over and over and over.

Okay, so it isn't clear... the sixth generation is still going on then? I read all your posts, but it's kind of unclear.

GCN can still make an epic comeback to win 6th gen. Lololol.

Well in that case, I'm doing my part. I've bought three in the last one year alone! :o

Nonbiased gamers who didn't tie themselves down to one platform were the true winners. We played the great multiplats and the great exclusives.

I'm not even into sales either, I just wanted to make sure SW remembered that, as this particular point (of "when a generartion ends")has been explained in SW ad nauseum. :P

Yes, the sixth Gen sales are still continuing, while the new gen also starts. I inserted an old link you may want to check out as this was a very popular topic in SW. Bascially, just because a new gen starts doesn't mean last gen stopped. Just like when we are born, are parents don't instantly die.

But then that means, assuming continued sales of the PS2 next year, that at the launch of the Wii U, we will have three generations simultaneously. It seems a bit excessive, doesn't it? :?

When the Wii U launches that means next gen begins. Something I feel everyone knows. But to me, it makes pure sense that the previous gen can continue if the consoles are still selling andgamesare being made. The thing is, gamers and journalist will focus more on what's new. Don't sites still review games for the PS2 though? Yes.

If you'd like to set a personal time-line and say, "PS3 and 360won't outsell the Wii befor the Wii U launches", then that's totally cool and acceptable in a confined debate with a specific rule-set (e.g. a SW thread). But in reality it still doesn't mean sales arefinal.

I probably have played more Wii games, 360 games, PC games than you have, but this discussion is NOT new to SW. It's very simple.

What is clear is that just because ONE generation of gaming starts, doesn't mean the LAST generation of gaming ends. That is how it always has been and always will be, lol.

WTF, indeed, lol. While I have information for a longwhile, I see no need to use it....yet. ;)

Anyways, now that you have come to a conclusion, we are done. I also inserted one of many links for you to peruse at your convenience.
