I was one of those people. "Why would you buy a game just to participate in a beta test!" is what I would say. And I am self-owned for being a hypocrite of the lowest grade. I walked in the store with a few dozen bucks to blow, and I looked at Crackdown, I looked at the little sticker on the bottom corner (you guys know what sticker I'm talking about) and I had an epiphany, a dilemma, a moment of weakness, whatever you wanna call it.

And then I walked over to the cashier and asked for a copy.

Who else did this to themselves? I already KNOW I will not play Crackdown for any significant amount of time as I am playing other games in my library, but are there any other victims to the power of Halo?

I got crackdown mostly for halo 3, but the gameplay was great, if crackdown did not have the halo 3 beta, I would have still got it.

It seems GS was right when they put the ''Halo 3 beta featuring crackdown'' option in the poll.

What I'm not allowed to have an avatar of master chief. I had my doubts but Crackdown is pretty damn good, especially co-op.

You know you all may very well be right, Crackdown might be a darn solid game. But I KNOW I will not play it because I have no DESIRE to play it. I don't really dig sandbox games, and after the playing the demo, I saw no reason to change my preferences. This is seriously a case of where the game will sit next to my others unplayed, until the beta launch. I will not play it, just because I don't want to.

Heres some news that might upset you.....

http://www.theabovedomain.com/cms/content/view/81/2/

News just reaching us via some inside sources indicates that there will actually now be two 'seasons' of HALO 3 Beta testing. The first season will be for all the lucky competition winners and then a second season for those that have purchased Crackdown.

The first season is expected to start on March 21 and the second season is due to end in June. So chances are if you intend to participate via Crackdown you will only be playing the Beta in May, after all the winners. The source of this news (Gamertag: Xboxportugal) has previously been first to reveal screenshots form Halo 3 so we are pretty confident that his forum post is pretty accurate information.

What was funny was on the magazine ads it mentions the beta briefly at the bottom corner in small print, when it should've been the headline.

Doubt it, thie idea of a beta is to get as much feedback from users as possible to improve the final product, using "seasons" only limits the purpose of the beta.

I was on the fence about crackdown.  The halo3 beta put me over the edge to buy it.  So I guess in a way I did buy it for the beta.

Crackdown was a fun game though and deserves a higher score than A.

The Halo 3 beta made me get Crackdown sooner than I would've with out it, so I did buy the game for the Halo 3 beta.  That said, I do think Crackdown is a great game.

I bought it for both. Had the Beta not been came with Crackdown, I wouldn't have bought it. Had the Beta came with Bullet Witch, I wouldn't have bought that game.

If you didnt like it, and not even like the genre then I have to say it was a stupid decision. And you have been part of telling Microsoft that it is smart of them to pack-in things like this to sell extra copies, instead of giving them to everyone through Live :| This reminds me og the GT4 preview game that we sold in our store.

I take it you have not participated in beta's before. You have a small test for x period of time working through some of the gameplay tweaks etc. and before the game is released you have as many people as possible playing for server stress tests to see if things hold up with lots of traffic. I would not be surprised if they have a general admission for whoever wants to participate, getting Crackdown just means you are "Guaranteed" a place.

The purpose of a beta test is to gain feedback and testing, allowing millions of people to give feedback would be very unwise. You start the beta test with a relatively small amount of players to give you feedback then you open up the beta before the product is released to make sure the servers can handle the stress and all the little bugs have been squashed. This is how it works in MMO's and although you dont have dedicated servers in Halo 3 they will use it to test the matchmaking server etc.

Well... I bought it for something to play... Since I already beat and played ever game I have just about twice.

If I had XBL I would be in the beta for sure... Why miss out on the bonus feature?

I loved the demo, and the beta pushed me over to buy it.  It's a fantastic game.  Very addictive...I don't play it all the time but when I do I can't stop for HOURS.  I thought I would hate it because I hate GTA and most other open world games, but the super powers add a lot to the game and it's a total blast to play.

And I haven't even played co-op yet!

The demo was cool and I was buying Lost Planet and figured ah wtf  pick this up too, Crackdown is at least AA in my book; tough game to put down once you get started. Halo 3 beta just a nice plus.

Well the options for the BETA are a limited period of time only. It says on the card that.

So you payed quite a bit for just a temporary demo.

Where's the "I didn't buy Crackdown" option?

Tried the demo. No thanks. And probably the only multiplayer game I'd be interested in Beta testing is UT3. I can wait for the finished version of everything else, as I already have a pretty big backlog of games I need to finish..

I can tell you that the vast majority of people that bought it at the store I worked at picked it up for that reason. I was already accepted into the beta without needing the game and only planned on renting it in the first place (or even better, buying it cheaply used). The game looks like a great time waster but I know it isn't terribly deep.

WHAT???  The Crackdown disk comes with the Halo 3 beta invitation?  I didn't even realize this until now.  Wow.  I bought Crackdown for Crackdown and now I get this bonus?  Man, that rocks!

Seriously, this game is great.  The bosses could be tougher than just having more health than the other thugs, but it is a great game experience.

I bought Crackdown for Crackdown. But to each his own. I'm sure you'll find a game worth owning in Crackdown.

I don't think I would've gotten Crackdown with out the Beta. I was totally in a state of breakdown when I only had enough money for one game, and I had VF5 in one hand and Crackdown in the other. But, I looked at the sticker, and I just couldn't pass it up
