3D is going to take over. But it's going to do it really slowly... still, it will be fun to go back and replay my 3D-capable PS3 games in 7 years.
[QUOTE="R3FURBISHED"]And 3D TVs are still hella expensive.InstashotSo were HDTVs when they first came out. 3DTVs will be cheap by this Xmas, trust me. Define cheap for me.
[QUOTE="R3FURBISHED"]And 3D TVs are still hella expensive.InstashotSo were HDTVs when they first came out. 3DTVs will be cheap by this Xmas, trust me.HAHAHA. That's hilarious. Don't count on it. 3D TV's might drop 200 dollars from now until December, if even that, and that's not much considering most of them are starting at $2000 right now.
Unfortunately, I'm buying an HDTV instead and I'm gonna keep the 3D switch on the 3DS off all the time once I get it. I hate 3D.tekken220Whoa, there's a switch to turn off the 3D on the thing? Awesome! :D Yeah, I plan on getting a 3DS, but I'm not a fan of the 3D either, just the specs and that mind-blowing RE trailer.
While it's definitely being explored a lot more in the media industry, I think it'llbe a while before it's a common household theme. So "taking over" may be a bad choice of words....
[QUOTE="R3FURBISHED"]And 3D TVs are still hella expensive.InstashotSo were HDTVs when they first came out. 3DTVs will be cheap by this Xmas, trust me. yeah, but most people have already upgraded (reluctantly) to a HDTV. they wont be upgrading for many years to come. a TV is not something you upgrade every few years. also a family of 5 would need to buy 5 sets of glasses, costing the best part of £250. its too expensive and nobody really cares

Our house is still one generation behind.
Flat screens for the win!! Eff rounded screens!! xD

call it $600 or less and you have yourself a deal...until then looks like the 3DS is gonna be the only 3D gaming i'm doing

No. 3D displays uses LCD TN pannels, which have low quality in terms of color (only 6 bit per channel) and contrast compared against SIPS and MVA LCD pannels or plasma displays. Also, I think that 3D graphics adds nothing to multiplayer games, making your foes harder to perceive and the environment intrusive. Plus, has huge impact in the framerrate, without the straight advantages of some other techniques as supersampling AA which really worths the framerrate sacrifice.
You will be more aware about 3D crapyness as long as the first games start to arrive in consoles -Crysis 2- and no one uses the 3D in the multiplayer. This isn't a true step forward as the jump from stereo audio to 5.1+ multichannel surround, which really enhanced the immersion and enjoy.
I agree that 3D is the immediate future in home entertainment... but I suspect that within 5-10 years we'll all be buying 3D TV's that don't require glasses.

No interest in 3D for me until I can watch it on my TV without glasses. When I can do that I will be first in line to buy it. It still really a gimmick.
I could see doing it for a movie, but keeping those glasses on for hours while gaming...no interest.
i wish this forum was 3d it would make reading some of the bad posts more bearable
i dont think anybody is doubting that 3d is the next big thing but i think it will take at least a few years to get wide market saturation, just like hdtv... and flat screen... and dvd... and everything else related to consumer electronics.
Well nobody likes an I told you so'er. lol, j/k.
But in reality, this looks to be where it is all heading. Shame for me. 3d really makes my eyes go screwy. I tried to watch 3d Alice in Wonderland in theaters and was completely wacked out.
My eyes were all crooked, I was getting double images and generally felt like barfing. But for my fiance, it was fine. I have 20/20 vision and need no glasses, so this is a bit discouraging for me.
And 3D TVs are still hella expensive.R3FURBISHEDPretty much like any new technology then? Remember the prices of DVDs when they were first released?

Regular HDTV's were debuting at 5k a pop. Considering 3D HDTVs are only $2000 for starters, that's a better deal any day of the week. $2000 isn't that bad at all.[QUOTE="Instashot"][QUOTE="R3FURBISHED"]And 3D TVs are still hella expensive.ThatGuyFromB4

It's scary how easily people are misguided into buying nonsense.heretrix
Right, because god forbid people to actually like something right? Stop trying to make out your opinion as if it's fact.
And how will that be achieved without killing the viewing angle? Physics are in the way here.I agree that 3D is the immediate future in home entertainment... but I suspect that within 5-10 years we'll all be buying 3D TV's that don't require glasses.

You can get a 40in Sony 3D TV for $2,100 ; with accessories for 4 people it comes up to about $2,750. Not all that bad. Nonstop-MadnessIn comparison, decent 1080p 42" HDTV tend to run in the $500-700 range. Big difference.

That 40in 3DTV isn't a decent 1080p TV with 3D ...... its a high quality 1080p 240hz BRAVIA Internet Enabled HDTV with 3D. Its basically a top notch Sony Bravia with 3D.

Right, because god forbid people to actually like something right? Stop trying to make out your opinion as if it's fact.
"As long as you need glasses for it, it's a no sale for me."See that part? The part that you convieniently omitted? I was talking about my opinion, I never said it was a fact. :|
I have no problem with people liking the tech, but seriously if you can't see through the ploy that's your problem.
My point stands as long as you need glasses for it, it's garbage. Why in the hell do you need glasses to watch TV when for decades there was no need for it?
It's a goddamn step backwards.
I mean seriously dude, do I really need to point out that pretty much everything I say here is my own opinion?
"As long as you need glasses for it, it's a no sale for me."Well, the problem I see with ur argument is that you call these ppl misguided. Let me make an example: Games are garbage. It's scary how easily people are misguided into buying nonsense. As long as you need as system for it, its no sale for me. It's my opinion, so you shouldn't be offended.See that part? The part that you convieniently omitted? I was talking about my opinion, I never said it was a fact. :|
