As an owner of a Wii, my next console (as soon as the new uber version is released... See, and you say waiting's a bad thing?) will be an Xbox360...
Why? Cause it's great... I've had so much fun with it so far, and it's a well done console, inside and out...
As for PS3... There's nothing in the future I care about enough to spend $600 on it... Not even MGS4... I'll just play it at a friend's... Like I did with MGS3...
But seeing that you can't make decisions on your own... Buy a POP Station...
Buy a 360, it has the best lineup as of right now. PS3 is good, but the games are not there yet. VF5 next week though!  Don't waste your time with a Wii, unless you really love Zelda (which by the way is a pretty good game)
Bought a PS3 four days ago and returned it yesterday. Why? No games. I'll get one in the future, but for now, I'm quite happy with my 360. 360 has plenty of games and plenty on the way.
I would advise to buy a 360 first since it has a better lineup of games and more exclusive titles. Buy a PS3 down the road after 1 year or more goes by to see what games come out for it. Right now the PS3 isn't worth the price with the games it offers. However, if you are interested in Blu-Ray, you should go get it, it's a cheap way for a Blu-Ray player and stacks up with most of the expensive players. 360 - shooters, more exclusive titles, better graphics/performance, certain PC titles come to it PS3 - Blu-Ray, wait for more games to come out and then it can be judged properly, free online service, but XBConnect is also free
Look at the library , and choose :D . If you want to buy one right now , everybody ( that isn't blinded by fanboyish ) would tell you to go with the 360 .
Honestly you shouldn't listen to anyone here... (even me) on this issue
Check out the games, make list of all the games you want to play.. and whatever has the bigger and or better list get that first and if the other list (minus games you can get on the other platform) is still a good/big list... well save up and get that one later

The Xbox lasted about 4-5  years and Microsoft quickly killed off the Xbox once the 360 was released. The PS2 as far as I know, is still going strong after about 7 years now.

Get a X360 Lots of great games out right now and $200 cheaper than PS3. The graphics right now are better than PS3 and it doesn't look like the PS3's graphics can be that much better in the long run.

No I don't have a problem I have a PC that can have those like the card reader, I have seperate drive + my HP printer has slots for cards as well. WiFi, nothing new, my PC has an internal card as well, including my PSP. You can also get a Blu-Ray drive for a PC...

I personally don't even notice the rumble feature anymore. It's cool but nothing to write home about. Motion sensor based controllers can add a whole new dimension to gameplay and that's what counts. I would think the PS3 since it would involve using the motion sensor features in the sixaxis controller. Graphically they should be about the same (360 vs PS3).
both if u really HAFTA pic one id say ps3 cause its free online backwards compantability u can transfer ur game saves from ur past consoles (360 cannot do this at least not w/out som fannesin) the ps3 has more games that are different from each other (gow and halo are great but still) so ya id def go with ps3
I have no idea why you would ask random people at gamespot this question. What games out on both system interesting you most right now. Go to your store and play the ps3 and 360. Also play the Wii it might suprise you.

buy a 360 if you're impatient or want a console soon but, if you wait 2 - 3 years, for a redesign so that it doesn't look like a pos (sony fanboys who say it's hot are f'd), the exclusive train to get rolling, the developers to all-of-a-sudden seem to be piling up with games to release for the system, and the price to drop, then the ps3 is the way to go
