Games seem to be getting shorter and shorter nowadays. Fable, Halo2, Gears of War, Halo3, Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, Call of Duty 4 and the list goes on and on. I refuse to pay $60a gamethat will last me 2 days. At the rate developers are going soon we'll be expected to pay $70 for a 3 hour game.
I will not pay $60 for a long game with bad gameplay. Some people just need to realize that a short game doesn't always mean that it has terrible gameplay. I had so much fun with shorter games like SotC, Uncharted, and even Gears of War.
Some people need to realize that the quality of gameplay matters a lot more than length.
Call of duty 4 and Halo 3 have MP that more than makes up for any length lost in SP. Halo 3 is around 12 hours though.. maybe more if you play through first time on legendary. And COD4 on Vet could last for 12 hours.

Ever think the problem is not the length but people's gaming habits are changing? I hear so many times "I won't pay for a game I can finish in a weekend". How? How do you finish a game in a weekend? People are seemingly locking themselves in their bedrooms and playing games in marathon sessions, blowing through them as quickly as possible. Then they say "That was such a rip off! It was too short". Well you're the one blowing through games in a day. It takes me quite a while to finish a game because I only have time to play for maybe an hour a night. And at that rate a 10-12 hour game is the perfect length.

That's pretty stark. One can always purchase the games with better value for the full price and purchase the ones with less value once the price drops to an acceptable level for that individual.
I personally would pay that amount if the gameplay is good overall, I could beat MGS2 in like 6 hours, it doesnt make it any less of an outstanding game, stop being so spoiled and deal with it or play an rpg, 10 hours is more then enough for a satisfying run for a few days unless you're home 24 hours a day playing it.

I swear I noticed the same exact thing, before heavenly sword came out everyone kept beefing cuz it was 10 hours, then people lowered it to 9, then 8, then 6, now 4? fanboys are the worst.

Any game under ten hours should have MP. Even if a good short game is better than a long bad game, a good long game would be better than either.

Halo 3s Gameplay is longer if only people would stop playing the game on easy or mediocre,and startchanging it to something like Heroic (no not legendary, or else the original poster won't EVER have time to finish the game).
Halo 3 is a total different game only if people weren't such wussies and change the diffulty.
It's like playing a sports game, what fun is a game if your only playing it on Wussie.

In all fairness, though, $60 is a lot of money. The market truly needs to expand to benefit from economies of scale.

I got through the game 6 hours on Normal through my first playthrough. Even less on Legendary.

Movies are $10-20 and books are usually $8 (for soft cover). And i only know a few people who can read a full 350 novel or more in 3 hours.

Fable and Halo 2 are $50 games.
Gears of War, Halo 3, and Call of Duty 4 have multiplayer and replayability. Halo 3 has bonuses such as a theater mode and a 'forge' object editor. Not to mention they all have very good Online multiplayer as well. If you only intend to do the single-player experience, don't buy games with multiplayer. Simple.
