I will riot like Rodney King when Left4Dead doesn't win GOTY

I find it hard to believe that this game hasn't reached AAA at a lot of game review websites. This is the most fun I've had in quite a while with any game. The fact that I play 99% of it online shouldn't be taken off the score. Playing with humans is ALWAYS more fun that playing with bots.

GTA 4 - Been there, done that. Was bored after a week. Better stories in the other GTA games.

MGS 4 - Cool. Terrific graphics. Kooky story and usual MGS stuff, but one playthrough and I'm done.

WOW Lich King - Expansion. Need I say more?

Resistance 2 - Fun, especially for a console exclusive shooter, but nothing compared to L4D.

Gears of War 2 - Yawn. More of same. Has a fun system like L4D but nothing beats killing thousands of zombies.

Dead Space - L4D has just as much of a scary atmosphere to it only you're playing with/against humans. I will never knock shooters with terrific offline campaigns because they are so few these days, but again, I'd rather play L4D than Dead Space.

Fallout 3 - Overrated. Was fun for about a week. Had much of that same repetitive boring easy grind that Bethesda RPGs share.

SSBM - Now that Gamespot has released most of its Nintendo fanboys, I doubt we'll see another one of these Mario rehashes make GOTY, but I will riot even harder if teh kiddy fighter rehash wins GOTY.

How could Galactic Civilization II's E-X-P-A-N-S-I-O-N get a 9.0 from Gamespot yet Left4Dead only gets 8.5??? The haters against this game are mind-blowing. This is one of the greatest, most addictive games ever, whether you are playing it on PC OR Xbox 360. Sheep and cows are really losing out with this one.

Im with you there!!! Left 4 Dead is by far the best game i played this year, id also think far cry 2 is a contender in my book even though i know neither of those will win goty their both goty in my book

Having played the demo, the 8.5 was pretty damn generous in my opinion. Not a lot too the game, some really weak gameplay, short campaign, not a lot to mix things up.BobHipJames

Think realistically here. A game that scores an 8.5 will not beat a game that scores a 10 for GOTY. MGS 4 is going to win GOTY (at gamespot..and possibly every other gaming site) and you can quote me on that. blam.

Sure, zombies are fun. Coop is fun.But that's all there is to this game. I was pretty disappointed when Bioshock won all the awards last year leaving nothing for Halo3 and OrangeBox. (BTW I love Bioshock and have played thru it more than 4 times) But seriously, as long as you like a game, thats all that matters. I have learnt not to take awards too seriously.

I agree, 7.5-8.0 is more realistic IMO, the game just feels old, and it was only released a month ago. Most of the posters here don't seem to have a clear understanding of the purpose of a demo. Despite the rabid defense of the game by the Valve kool-aid club, the numbers reflect this, the game can barely compete with Football Manager 2009 on Steam(don't know what the numbers are on Live). Maybe next time Valve will put a little more polish on a good idea.

I think something with high production values deserves it 1,000x more than L4D...MGS4, R2, Gears 2 or GTA4. Those are the contendors, and L4D doesn't hold a candle to any of them.

When I first played Fallout 3, I thought it was GOTY. Then I got L4D and couldn't possibly go back to Fallout. L4D is the best game I played this year, easily, but I haven't played anything on PS3. I got GTA4 and was bored to tears, but applaud its technical quality. I really liked The Witcher, but know it has no chance of even getting a mention in the debate.

L4D packs the fun and excitement that make video games great. Gets my vote for GOTY...

EDIT: based on the prelims of the best of 2008 on gamespot, i think MGS4 has at LEAST the reader's choice GOTY. and it might have the editor's choice as well since they loved it so much.
