I wish more games featured Halo-style matchmaking and levels.

I am disappointed with Halo3's gameplay (Halo2 was better!) but I don't regret buying it, because of its smooth online features (well, 4 player coop was kinda fun, too I guess).

Matchmaking and in-game levels are the foundation of Halo3 ranked multiplayer. You get matched up against people of similar skill level and you don't have total control over which maps and gametypes you play. In-game levels make you want your team to win. There aren't as many people hiding behind walls with sniper rifles trying to get a good kill/death ratio (ghaa PC shooters).

I really don't know how you could say you don't like the system, because you can still set up and play any gametype you want. It just won't be ranked. I think it's good that people can't play on their favorite map against newbies every match to rank up.

I'm not trying to say that Halo2/3 are the only games that have these sort of systems. I'm sure they've been done before.

What do you think about Halo-style matchmaking and levels?

Why Hello there my friend.

Join us we have Cookies and M4 Carbines and perks.

And that Precious Halo 3 matchmaking but you actually get to choose what gametype you want to play!!

In other games usally the Host is too busy Wacking off to start the game from the lobby I'm sick of that ***.

Match making should be in every game.

choose gametype.

Throw everyone into a room

and in 3 seconds the game AUTOMATICALLY Starts without waiting for the host to finish jacking off.

And you don;t get kicked for no reason.

And Play .

So in CoD4 you choose gametype and stuff first and then it matches you against people who want to play that gametype? That's basically the same thing as choosing a server from a list, except it's less work. That really isn't Halo3 matchmaking.

And remember, I never said Halo was the only thing that had matchmaking.

I prefer having the option like rainbow 6. I haven't played halo 3 but if its anything like halo 2 its not my thing.

i like to be able to pick the levels, number of people and gametypes I'm going to play.

Not when the host never starts the game or with a room full of 16 people just leaves for no reason and you have to search for a room again.....

Just Jump in

everyone gets matched up

Game starts.

Hmm, not really sure what you are trying to say. You can't get kicked unless you kill teammates in matchmade Halo3 games, and the games do start autimatically. Not sure you are talking about Halo3 though.

The matchmaking in Halo 2 and 3 is horrible imo. I hate having to play games I dont like until it finally decides to throw me a bone and give me something I do. It probably wouldn't be so bad if they showed you the level beforehand and gave you a chance to bail without getting spanked for doing it. A custom game finder would be nice aswell.

Yeah, well, you can. Unranked matches.

I like ranked matches to seem important and be as balanced as possible (as in player skill level). That's why I like Halo2/3 matchmaking.

Halo 3 matchmaking in other games? no thx, i cant play the gametype i want, i cant play the map i want to play on.....cant even choose how many players to play it......Halo 3 probably has the worst matchmaking system, COD4 owns it, i also hope COD4 will have custom search

We aren't talking about Halo as a whole. Just its matchmaking system. You have to assume that all the other features you want are in the game. Such as a list of servers hosting unranked matches.

While playing Halo I noticed more times than not it devolves into who has the bigger/better gun or whose team sticks together more and less about actual individual prowess. Not to say teamwork doesn't require some skill, but thats generally what I noticed.

Oh right I see what you mean. I suppose it is a pretty good system if you you did have choice over the gametype and possibly map.

Yeah I played a bit of the beta and the matchmaking was pretty good but I didn't really enjoy the gameplay all that much unfortunately.

I grew up with the years of Quake 3. Getting my ass kicked is a necesity now in any and all multiplayer games I play. Being matched up with people my level isn't fun at all. I prefer to play on the servers where it takes serious skill and I prefer to choose what maps and what modes (and the servers themselves) I play. I tried the Halo 3 match making thing and couldn't stand it. Personally I don't understand how people can like it.

Maybe it's just me, but I like to play against the good players immediately in any game. I don't want to be put with people my level. It defeats the purpose of trying to get better if all you're doing is playing people of equal skill.

Resistance has better matchmaking than Halo 3. And it has a better party system. And a better custom game system. And it has clan support.

I agree. They should have made custom games public for the whole community to play but perhaps non-ranked. When it comes to ranked games, you must be a good player on any map, with any weapon combination, any time of the day etc so yeah, I think the matchmaking system for ranked games is great and makes sense.
