or ms droping out of the console race completely after 360 to cut their losses. xbox was killed so fast because it was costing them tomuch money. ms said they would actually profit from their xbox devision in 2008.. but with recent news it looks like they may go another generation without any profits from their xbox devision once again...

discuss.

They have a Mass Effect and Too Human triliogy planned the 360, and not even the 1st one of those games have come out, so i doubt we'll be seeing the xbox 720 in 2 years.

Also the only reason they launched the 360 in 2005, abandoning the abox after 5 years was to launch before the ps3 and steal a large chunck of its user base.

I doubt it, Microsoft's market strategy in consoles seems to be using financial brute force to oust their competitors and take market share so they can later control the industry.

If they do succeed in the future, all the money they spent on the Xbox and the 360 will have been potentially worth it, if they concede now however I doubt that'll be the case.

Microsoft can play the long game, and honestly, it's not like their the only one not making a profit from their consoles (ie Sony). Unlike Sony however, their larger corporation is doing very well, so it's unlikely they'll be stopping in the next two years.

Yeah, Microsoft is doing good as a whole, and as long as the former have alot of cash rolling in, then the latter will be able to utilize said profit for the console. I doubt the 360 will end in awhile. I plan on it being around for at least 5 more years.

i think they will keep the 360 around for another 4 years. at that time the system would have been out for 6 years. at that time we should be see something newfrom MS and nintendo.

It won't happen. Sony is also making a big loss on its consoles at the moment (in fact I think it's a bigger loss), it's a natural part of the business. You make a loss at first as you try to cut the price of your console as much as possible to set up a good fanbase, limiting the financial damage through software sales and things like extra controllers. Then you start making a profit as the hardware becomes cheaper to produce and that fanbase you set up at the start begins sucking up all the new games.

If Microsoft shut down the 360 and started a new project so soon, orleft the console race entirely,it would harm them significantly since they won't have given enough time to reapthe profits from the 360. It's not like they're going to run out of funds any time soon anyway, this is MS we're talking about.
