I have a Wii and a PS3.

So recently I've been presented with a choice, I could get a free PS3, a free Wii, or a free Xbox 360.

I thought for a moment about the disadvantages and advantages of all 3. The fact that I even had to think goes to show something; since obviously I should pick the one that I don't have yet.

But I've decided to go with the PS3, and I intend to give it to my brother who lives 800 miles away; that way we can play together online. He only has a Wii btw.

It made me realize that my desire for a 360 or any of its games is exactly zero. I like Gears of War, and I though Mass Effect looked interesting, but the former was something I beat at my friends house in 6 hours playing Hardcore Co-op and the latter is on the PC ; so I'll end up being able to play it eventually anyway (Just like gears of war, but this one is all single player appeal.)

I used to like JRPGs, but lately they've all been crap, and honestly the 360 would just be a waste of space in my living room, especially since I refuse to blow $50 a year on XBL.

I understand why people like the rig, but it has absolutely no value to me at all.

If you were presented with a similar choice, what would you pick and why?

Just to let the rest of you know. HE JUST WANTS TO KNOW YOU'RE OPINION ON WHAT YOU WOULD GET.

For me, I would get the PS3. I've been all Sony all my life. I would agree that I could live with an Xbox 360, but I just feel more assured with a PS3.

I'm looking into PC gaming, however...

Great now you can play with your brother and most likely won't be able to talk to himsince PS3 doesn't have a headset ( unless you buy one) .

Well I want a PS3 and a 360. Whichever one I get free I'll just have to buy the next one so I'll pick the most expensive one for the free one. The PS3.

Not the smartest decision I've ever heard of, but it's nice to share with your brother.

Did you get a chance to play the multiplayer? What about the upcoming games.... like GeoW 2? The short story was the biggest complaint with the first one so i'll bet that was the first thing they wanted to improve.

Seriously, if you can't afford or dont want to pay what averages to 4 dollars and 16 freaking cents a month to play on XBL then I gotta ask. How did you afford a PS3 and a Wii? That is one of the dumbest arguments I hear from cows. Hell If I wanted to I could make 80 dollars in a week giving plasma. Dang I give plasma for one week and I can already afford to pay for XBL for a YEAR. Get over it crybaby

$50 is $50 and I'd like to get something I can't get free somewhere else if I'm spending it.

XBL offers nothing that I can't get somewhere else for free.

Not to be rude TC, but i dont think anyone cares that you wouldnt choose a 360. This really is something you should blog. It contributes nothing to system wars, other than confirming how much you seem to dislike the 360. Like I said, no one cares.

Ok if you're buying him a console so that he can play online, I would suggest the 360 the service really is better right now and it seriously is worth paying for imo. But if you just want to play online against each other than get him a ps3 since you don't have a 360 and you can also chat with him on it. Hope this helps.

Since I have a 360, I'd go with a free PS3. However, if I had nothing, I'd go with a 360. The amount of great games you can get for under 40$ now is amazing.

If I had none, and I had to pick one?
It's a pretty easy choice.

The 360, followed closely by the PS3 as my second choice.

The Wii doesn't have near the library to serve as one's "only" console.

Ah, but the headset is mine, It's not like I'm renting it. In fact I'll likely never have to pay for it again.

XBL doesn't have that luxery, and headsets are about 1/2 the price.

Meh. I just buy Live Gold card every year. I don't even notice I'm paying for it 55 out of 56 weeks of the year.

I think you should actually try it out before you tell me it's not worth it.

It is a god damn rip-off though :(

PSN does everything I want it to do. The only thing I'd get XBL more is for things that PSN does for free, so what am I paying for?

Honestly, XBL Silver should do AT LEAST what PSN does for free.

Myself, having a keen eye for a bargain, would get the PS3, sell it and use the funds to buy a 360/Wii and make myself a small but nice profit ;)

You can always find deals on XBL cards. There was one about a month ago and it was 13 months of XBL for $30 or something like that. Or you can use ebay where they can be as low as $20-$30. Almost forgot to mention that most games come with free cards of 48 hours and i've gotten a few that come with a month.

You could say the difference between XBL/PSN isn't the same as that one, but when the better service is only 14 cents of day how could you pass it up?

$50 is a lot of things, and after 4 years of owning the console (Which I hope it lasts at least that long) that's $200, or $120 with your deals. In the end, what do I have to show for it? Yeah I get some fun times, but they're fun times I could have for free somewhere else (I could ignore PSN entirally in this argument and mention the PC.)

I've seen the argument countless times, and no one has been able to convince me that XBL's service is better aside from simply saying "It's better."

I play games online fine with PSN with very little latency issues, I'm satisified with that, and I have fun with that. I don't think I need to pay $4 a month to do the same thing on another console.

Well, I think you made a good choice. I do like the 360, but I also think that a PS3 and 360 would be a pretty bad combo, unless if there were some exclusive games for each one that your REALLY must play. This is because of just how much of the consoles' libraries are the same. I mean, if given the option between a 360 and PS3, considering I do have a 360, I would have chosen the PS3 even though I wouldn't be as excited about it as I should be considering it's a console I don't own. But as you said, you chose the PS3 so that you could play with your brother online. And IMO, that was the right thing to do. Playing games you like with somebody you like > a few extra games, along with a lot of games you could already get.

Um, XBL is better for a lot of reasons. It offers a lot more content than PSN, and has more features too. Its also a much more unified service, making online gaming easier.

I have all three, and while i prefer the PC, if i had to choose a console it'd be the 360. Simply because it has by far the most games worth having, which is what i'm most interested in.

It's not worth $50. Bottom line.

We've had this discussion before, and no matter what you do he will in no way at all accept that xbox live is better. Even if Ken Kutaragi himself said that xbox live was better, he would still demand further explanation.

It is better. Most PS3 users happily admit that it is better. Why else would people pay for it?

It's not, no. I'd pay $30 a year for it. I think that'd be reasonable. It IS better than PSN however.

Irrelevant. So you're another person who confuses 'value' with 'quality'? XBL may not be worth the $50, but its still better than PSN. Theres no denying that.
