Bethesda has yet to announce it, but we all know it will happen in the future. Skyrim is one of the best games i played this generation, but as always happen with popular games, people are quick to figure and point their flaws. Here are some of my ideas to make a better Elder Scrolls game:

Quests:

- Keep the main series singleplayer.

- Keep the random quests/events, but add more diversity to them.

- Bring the arena back. It could actually be a (the only) cool way to add multiplayer, without killing the franchise.

- In the arena, you should not only fight, but also be able to be part of the audience, bet, etc...

Map and journal:

- Make the map more interactive. I visited an interesting dungeon, so why not the ability to write a note and add it to the dungeon icon in the map?

- Stores and other important places in towns, should have their own icons.

- The description of miscellaneous quests should be more elaborated. After hundreds of hours accepting quests in Skyrim, i never remember who asked me to do this, or why do i need to visit that place. There are hundreds of quests in the game, so there should be a more complex journal.

Dungeons:

- Some dungeons, for example, a cript that has been closed for centuries, should't have lighted torches. Make them darker and more scary.

- Dungeons without torches, or daylight from the exterior, should be completly dark, forcing you to use a torch or magelight. You should also be able to light torches with fire magic.

- Traps should actually make damage.

Loot and exploration:

- Gold should be harder to find. I explore alot in theses games, so i always end up with lots of gold and no use for it.

- Enchanted items, artifacts, etc, should be alot more rare.

- Once in a while, sacks should have more than apples or carrots. Make important loot rare, sure, but still unpredictable.

Night time:

- Night should be darker, more scary and incredibly more dangerous, to the point you feel the need to go through the roads or pay to spend the night in an inn. To make that possible, some night creatures (wereworves, vampires, ghosts...) should be more active, unpredictable and powerful at night.

Economy:

- Some rare items or properties, should be incredibly expensive. Only possible to be brought, after like 150 or 200 hours playing the game.

Lockpicking:

- Lockpicking is too easy. I usualy open master locks just for fun, and lose 2 or 3 lockpicks at most. Oblivion's system was a better challenge.

Combat and Magic:

- Arrows should be affected by physics, like in Oblivion (the longer the distance, the upper you need to aim).

- Some enemies should also have mounts.

- Fast travel could be replaced by a spell. You could only travel through the entire map, later in the game, at the highest levels.

NPCs:

- Followers (and NPCs in general) should have visible characteristics: Attack, armour, magic, stamina, etc, so you could know exactly which gear you should give him/her.

- Most NPCs in Skyrim had the same dramatic tone on their dialog. Give them personality, sense o humor, etc...

- Town guards should be able to give us indications (where's the inn, the general store, etc...), like in Oblivion.

Difficulty:

- Make it harder, some places close to impossible until you are a really high level. I started my two Skyrim character in the hardest difficulty, and while it started as a challenge, it turned like a walk in the park too soon.

Other:

- Make the game next gen only, and multiplatform (PC, PS4 and X1). Don't go exclusive with a platform your fans may not own.

- No more loadings between interiors and exteriors. You should be able to see the interior of a house, by looking through it's window.

Feel free to post your ideas aswell ;)

unfortunately for your TC theuir arent too many locations they havent visited yet in tamreil. in reality their have been a lot more than five games (more like 8 or nine i think) and tamriel consists of only 11 provinces. from the ones we have left we have hammerfell and summerset isle's. after which point they will need to either revisit an old area or do a remake or bring the elder scrolls series to a close. and if we get summerset prepare to be dissappointed. summerset is as tiny as f!ck.

what i want is a proper FIXED and COMPLETED remake of tes I & II as both are horrendously dated but ridiculously well made games if only in concept. and if we do get daggerfall please.. PLEASE give it an A for adults rating like you origionally intended. (it had brothels and prostitution and even graphic nudity)

also unlike oblivion and skyrim if a door was locked you had to break the door down. thats right you could physically break doors. normally two or three good swings of a hammer broke a door and you could engage in forced entry of a home. also it had shape shifting and more lycanthropy than wearwolf. try wearboar on for size :) and also they had homes that werent the size of fugly little cottages. daggerfall had houses that ranged from mud hut to elaborate f!cking mansion with four floors and f!cking house servants, and basements.

If the game takes place in a new era, some places and towns may be significantly different visualy, especially compared to Arena and Daggerfall. TES Online, for example is redoing most places we have already visited, but they seem to look alot different. I woudn't mind to revisit Morrowind on a new next gen engine.

Nice thread, those are some great ideas, I especially like the one about fixed levels for enemy creatures, removing level scaling would really help the game, and make it more challenging and interesting. Some of the most popular TES mods do exactly that, suprised Bethesda never considered it.

As for me, for starters, I'd like to see the game set in Summerset Isles, would love to explore the place. But as the most important part, I'd like to see the game focus on quality over quantity. Now, it can obviously still retain the same open world style present in all TES games (wouldn't have it any other way), but I'd prefer to see a smaller, yet more detailed world with no copy/paste issues, have less quests and locations, but make most of them unique, let more dungeons have some interesting side stories, and more importantly, have some actually useful and cool unique loot as a reward for exploring a "thousand year old crypt."

Another important thing, completely overhaul the combat system, make something that simply works well and is satisfying, Skyrim was a step in the right direction and currently has the best combat in a TES game, but that isn't saying much, it's still pretty damn unsatisfying, and no mods can fix it. A completely new engine would be great as well, one free from all the known Gamebryo bugs and glitches.

assassins creed parkour with dragons dogma combat. The problem with the game at it's heart is that the combat is about a decade old, you could mod it to make it more cool but still, it sucks.

I like the idea about breaking down doors, would be nice to let the players have a choice between a stealthy lockpick, and a more brutish, direct approach. In fact, expand it to loot containers as well, but have the forceful openings result in some damaged loot, like we had in KoTOR 2.

And yeah, more indoor enviromental variety would definitely be welcome.

Yep... but then again, every TES game has plenty of mods if you're in the market for some adult content! :P

Please, for the love of god, make it in Summerset Isles. Tropical destinations can be absolutely gorgeous with next gen graphics. I want there to be a lot more vegetation and I want lots of extremely tall trees in very long forests. I want it to feel like a jungle, not a barren wasteland like Skyrim. Most of all, bring back the creativity. This is elder scrolls for christs sake, why are they making dull cities when they can make freaking magical floating cities made of glass? One of my wishes is a huge elvish city where trees make up the majority of houses and the city is completely blended in with nature.

Shields should have more of an impact to them, and weapons should really feel like they hit. I shouldn't have to hit something 500 times for it to go down, a couple well placed strikes should be enough unless it's a massive creature. I shouldn't be able to keep my shield up either, I basically want them to make the combat very difficult in a sense that you have to time your blows and you get fatigued quickly (unless you train your stamina a lot). Using weapons should be clunky at first and very heavy (having a delayed response in attacks) until you get mastery in them and get stronger. Also, BRING BACK THE COLOSSEUM. I don't understand why they ever got rid of it in the first place, you'd think if the fans loved a feature in one game that they would include it in the next one, but clearly Bethesda thinks differently. Only this time, make it hard, very rewarding, and let me go up ranks from city to city until I reach this massive colosseum with a huge crowd where I can have some pretty epic battles.

There are SO many things I want from the next elder scrolls game, but most of all I'm just wondering what Bethesda is so afraid of. They've played it safe in Oblivion and Skyrim, never exploring new possibilities. They're turning it into a medieval simulator rather than a true fantasy game which is extremely disappointing to me. What's wrong with making a huge world filled with things we could never see in real life? I want to see giant sparkly butterflies that shoot laserbeams, harpies way high up in the skies that shout and their sounds echo across the landscape, they have YEARS to make these games yet they put out something so unimaginative that it's borderline dull. They had so much potential with the Oblivion portals but all they did was rehash the same one over and over again, talk about laziness. I want to see portals come back but take me to these seriously messed up worlds with purple skies, black clouds, red plants, etc.

Come on Bethesda, you can do way better.

You basically want dark/demon's souls. Bugthesda should stop trying and publically admit they're incompetent and inferior compared to From Software. They're a disgrace to gaming.

This. Give it a pretty world like Oblivion, with a unique look of Morrowind, and the intruiging depth of Morrowind/Daggerfall. Less Skyrim.

It's true that I want a combat system very similar to dark/demon's souls, but not the world. Due to the purpose of each game, Elder Scrolls games have way more potential than Dark/Demon's Souls games since they're so much larger in scale. Only problem is, instead of taking advantage of it, Bethesda copies and pastes barren landscapes then adds on the most boring combat system ever created. Seriously, it doesn't even make a difference if you have an axe or a sword in Skyrim, you just swing it around like it's a tree branch anyways :P.

The two most obvious that come to mind are

- As you said load location interiors nearby to remove loading times (yes i know it'll hog resources), i mean how much longer can they get away with buildings not having freaking windows? This could also allow more immersive experience with buildings; breaking in through doors/windows, building destruction in general ect.

- Sword/Shield Combat still really needs an overhall (lol at all the comments on this), maybe attack/block/parry could be aiming and timing specific, with actual combat styles for various weapons? It needs to feel like the weapons are actually lethal regardless of how powerful the weapon is or how adept the person holding it is, where you're actually having to react, rather than just holding block whilst vaguely looking at an enemy or just swinging at them and ignoring if they attack or not. The combat needs to be about landing one or two good hits (and avoiding your enemy doing the same) rather than just swinging and constantly hitting an enemy (and them hitting you) seemingly without result.

Also

- Allow me to type my own dialogue!

- More customization with Armor; as in different designs on various armor parts, rather than just armor types that all look the same, let me forge/engrave my own.

- Proper battles with multiple NPCs on both sides

- Actual pirate ships/crew and navel battles/pillaging, yeah ripped straight out of Assassins Creed.

- More Races with more unique characteristics.

- More ways to travel.

Rocker6

Thanks man. I don't want them to cut on quantity, but i definitely want they to also focus on quality. Especially when it comes to animations and combat (like some already said, Beth should take some notes from Dark Souls on this). And yeah, i would love to see Summerset Isles....and maybe multiple regions.

Not use a game engine from 2003.

Lulu_Lulu

yes make the engine better

They could just swallow their pride and just use the Unreal Engine, its better.

They're too cheapskate to license Unreal Engine 3/4. They don't even have competent programmers/coders. Please understand we're new to UE3 and are currently working around the clock to fix the gamebreaking bug that happens in the intro scene. The patch will release some time next month.

Dr., whats posting shots of Skyrim on very low going to prove? SKyrims world looks better than DS.

With mods it looks a gen ahead.

Jankarcop
Mods are not a given but if you want to play that argument: Modded Dark Souls looks lightyears ahead of maximally modded Chumprim.

1)  HARD CHOICES WITH AN APPRECIABLE IMPACT

All your choices amounted to in Skyrim were random guard comments.  That's it!!!!!!!! Killing people in front of a ton of witnesses should brand you an outlaw for life.  You shouldn't be able to pay gold to get out of jail and then carry on a happy conversation with the mother who watched you murder her son because you liked his weapon.

2) BRING BACK STATS AND RACIAL WEAKNESSES

An orc wizard should not be on the same level initially as an altmeri wizard.  I'm not saying make an orc wizard inferior, just make it a harder road to optimize him.

3) MULTIPLE MAIN QUEST SOLUTIONS

This has always been a weakness in the ES series.  You basically get shoe-horned into saving the world with the only variable being how big of a saint or monster you want to be along the way.  What if I wanted to help Alduin destroy the world?  What if I wanted to join the Crimson Dawn or whatever the hell they were called.

Be hard. Vanilla Skyrim was so easy even on the hardest setting.

How about having good gameplay. I know it's obvious, but it's a great starting point. Walk before you can run.

I'd like to see them return to a more Morrowind approach to exploration and story. Have more political intrigue and guilds to join. New guilds, different factions, new magic spells, etc.

Make combat better.  I mean all of it.  Swords, bows, and magic.  Make it customizable.  Like your charactcer.

Also make the perks more plentiful, so I don't feel the need to grind a skill I don't use just to level up faster.  Found myself doing that a lot.

They could just bring Obsidian in and get them to make the whole game like New Vegas but in Tamriel.

I don't know if it's actually on low, but that's an infamous texture from Skyrim just like the Crysis grey stones. Even on high it looks like that.

The texture pack is an official Bethesda release. It counts.

The only problem is that New Vegas defeats Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Skyrim in bugs.

[QUOTE="clyde46"]Make it not boring. foxhound_fox
This. Give it a pretty world like Oblivion, with a unique look of Morrowind, and the intruiging depth of Morrowind/Daggerfall. Less Skyrim.

Oblivion was pretty?!  Haha lay off bro, oblivion was generic as Mcdonalds.  Skyrim is gorgeous.

As much as I liked Skyrim the game needs to stop simplifying everything. I hope it is great, but I want Fallout 4

Yeah, they need to use a different engine. Their current one is terrible, lol.

oh and Some playtesting and pre-emptive Quality Assurance wouldn't hurt either !

Where? When? It's drab, washed-out and extremely bland. It needs ENB mods just to make it appealing.
